In life, there were always time where someone received more than they had originally wanted to. The objects received were generally ones that one was unable to exactly touch and keep in their drawers. Sometimes unwanted things were more dangerous than someone was able to foresee. Though, she couldn’t deny it. She had been warned, almost lectured, that this would be more than what she had been informed.
Death, violence, clash of ideals, the struggle for survival. Being told and actually acknowledging it were two contrasting concepts.
At the burst of energy next to her, Kara immediately retreated into an alleyway. Anywhere that wasn’t in plain sight would have sufficed. Flight. It was easy to choose to flee rather than to face the enemy Master and Servant with as much dignity and chivalrous nature as her Servant had.
Get away, run, get somewhere safe, call Saver!
Quickened breaths from exhaustion fluttered past her lips as fingers came up to touch the warm liquid that was permeating on her pale sweater. There might have been some more explosions, but the loud thumping of her heart was making it difficult to even hear anything even close. Everything from here on out would be based on instinct.
The faint sounds of exchanged steel, shouting (?), collapsing infrastructure echoed out into the late night. Above all that, there was no clear selection to make. It suddenly hit her to attempt to get further into the winding parts of city. It would lead to a chance to shake them off or to at least hinder attacks more. She made a shaky, desperate call for her Servant before pushing her legs to not give out under the pressure of battle. The first few steps had almost left her on the ground from her lack of coordination that was born from the onslaught of anxiety and fear.
As the prayer that no one was around to be involved against their will passed through her mind, the girl made the initial turn into another, connected alley and froze on the spot.
As a magus, it should be in her nature to end their life before they could even draw a shortened gasp. Innocents are not to be involved in the events of the War, and the involvement would cause too much trouble for the Association. Kara should dock her bow and aim for the heart without another thought, but she doesn’t. It was more than that. She just couldn’t.
Instead, it was she that was appearing as if she were the innocent bystander that was about to be pulled into a situation that she didn’t want to be a part of. In reaction, Kara opened her mouth, and, with faint voice, yelled the first thing her mind could create for her to say.
Because it was just defend or run. Fight or flight. And either one never guaranteed a hundred percent chance at surviving.
