"Well that doesn’t sound too fun, can we start somewhere more fun? Sorry to make you come out all the way here, but it’s the only port I could find." Putting his Quilava down, "This is Arashi, my first pokemon. He was given to me as a Cyndaquil," he introduced as the Quilava went and sniffed at the Ranger. "My name is Ethan, by the way."
"Sure! I hope you're ready for another boat ride, though, because outside of the temple, there's not much to do here. Well..." She stopped, thinking about it for a second. There was something that came to mind. "I suppose there is the bazaar, but you never know if it'll be fun or boring."
She waved at Arashi, smiling. "My name's Kate, and this is Machop. I saved him when he got himself stuck behind a boulder." Machop gave a hearty greeting in response.
With her demeanor still lingering, and yet somehow returning to a more carefree air, Mei’s smile brightened.
"Well, I guess you could say that, yeah! If you want, I can show you some really nice places for training." There were several routes that she still frequented on occasion whenever she felt the need to keep the gang in shape.
Kate returns the smile, then turns to Garchomp and whispers something. When he nods, she recalls him. He's had enough of being out and about, so he wanted to be in a familiar space for a while.
"Great! I'm ready to set out when you are!" She reached into her bag, and pulled out another Pokeball. Ever since Johto, she's had a habit of having a Pokemon outside their Pokeball at all times. She released Mismagius from it, then nodded. This was satisfactory.
ϟ Since I'm most likely the problem, I may as well help fix it.

Before anything else, Mei felt a small shiver run down her and didn’t notice briefly that Kate was tracing along the base of her back. She was going to ask why, but then realized that anyone would be curious seeing that.
She glanced back at her with, not exactly inquisitive, but a pensive glance. Was there really anything to say like this?
Mei slumped in her posture slightly, and let out a puff of air. She wasn’t at all irritated with the other, but moreso didn’t know where to start explaining. “Well… It was… Even now, the memory is kind of a haze, but it kinda sounded like a Persian?” she trailed off to a slight mumble
"S’not… a super great story or anything."
"I'm sure not, but these stories are always sort of interesting. I mean, just look at me. I'm riddled in the stupid things, and each of them has a story. Some more painful than others." Her hand subconsciously reaches over to her own lower back and rubs her latest wound. Explaining this one someday was not going to be fun.
[Questions..?] He blinked, his eyes thinning slightly as he squinted. […What kind of questions…?]
"Oh, don't worry! I'm not going to try catching you or anything! Well, I guess since I'm not a trainer, that goes without saying. I'd just like to learn some things about you, is all. Is that alright?"

"... Mei, what kind of Pokemon did that?" Kate was no stranger to Pokemon inflicted wounds. Most of her's were, even, so it was just kind of second nature to assume that.
ϟ I'll just leave this right here

"Something wrong, Pika...?" She trailed off, noticing the small electric mouse was staring at her lower left arm. "Ah, that...? A Carnivine went wild and attacked me. I didn't have time to tame it with it flying right at me, so I threw up my arm in defense and it..."
Kate sighs. "It started gnawing on me. It was incredibly painful, but at lease it kept it from moving, so I could tame it."

The words were light, and yet when Mei heard them, something in her mind clicked differently. If there was anything she was truly passionate about other than her sweets, it was hearing aspiring trainers of any age and walks of life working hard to achieve their admirable goals. It honestly reminded her much of herself only so long ago.
The smile then changed to a knowing one, and almost sagely, she uttered, “I hope you go far. And you have my support!” The champion extended her hand unabashedly. “My name is Mei! It’s great to meet you.”
Kate smiles back in return. Mei was talking like she knew something that she wasn't saying, but she'd leave it be. "My name's Kate! Nice to meet you too! Say, do you know a good place to go to train real fast? Garchomp needs to freshen up his skills and regain some confidence."
That was partially true. The other part was that Kate wanted to know where to go to do a practice battle, and if anyone would know, it'd be a local. Well, Kate's just been assuming she's Unovan, she could be wrong.
tbh I want Kate to give someone their first Pokemon. Like
"This little baby was abandoned by it's parents and needs someone to raise it, can you?"
I want that so bad rn.
"Oh, can I really?" Mei’s face lit up into an estatic smile. There wasn’t any particular reasoning for her being so pleased at this, but she was definitely not hesitant to show it.
Slowly and cautiously, she moved her hand up to the creature’s snout. She lingered like that before gently touching it, rubbing in small circle motions and feeling the very rough, yet somehow leathery texture. “Heya,” Mei murmured under her breath to the creature and withdrew her hand, returning her attention to its trainer.
"I noticed you guys coming off the boat. Are you visiting Unova for the first time?"
Garchomp had slightly shied away from Rosa's hand at first, until Kate nodded at him, letting him know it was fine. His sounds were hard to make out, somewhere between a growl and a whine, but it was supposed to be a happy noise. He was visibly starting to calm down, much to Kate's pleasure. It actually did help that he saw that the locals could be friendly.
"Yeah! Me and my Pokemon are traveling the world together, trying to beat a champion! Each of my Pokemon have their own reasons for wanting to try outside of helping me. Garchomp here's seems to be to boost his self confidence. If he beats a champion, he could feel like he could do anything!" The others ranged from wanting to prove themselves the strongest Pokemon in the world, all the way to having nothing better to do.
"Urp!" Mei had genuinely thought she wouldn’t be found out, and flinched in surprised when the stranger addressed her.
"Uwah… Sorry about staring n’ all, I was just a little curious," her voice was smooth, but being slightly embarrassed like this, it was sort of mousy in texture. Rubbing the back of her head sheepishly, she offered a small grin before looking over to Garchomp once more. "I haven’t seen this Pokemon very often around here, actually,"
"I'm not surprised. Dragon types are pretty hard to control and train. Even Garchomp here isn't fully trained. All I can assure you is that he's currently stable enough that he's not going to rampage." It would seem like a bad idea to have a Pokemon like this out and about, normally, except Garchomp hated being confined. When he was next let out, he'd have an anxiety attack which... wasn't fun. For anyone.
"You can go ahead and pet him if you want, just move slowly and be gentle. No sudden movements. If you don't want to, that's fine." Some people wanted to touch Garchomp, and Kate was fine with it. He normally was too, but he got freaked out rather easily. Hence moving slow, touching gently, and no sudden movements.
It had been a very long day for a certain champion. It would seem odd that she’d come to a large city to unwind, when in reality she was more pumped about a new sweets store that had just opened more than anything. With a bag of the stuff almost overflowing in her arms, was already feeling very relaxed and was planning on sitting on a bench near the docks. Nothing like a view of the ocean and some donuts.
Though, a certain Pokemon and its trainer’s interactions caught her attention while she was walking. It was a fairly unfamiliar Pokemon, and the noises it had been making was pretty distressing. Curiosity overcame the girl as she wandered nearer- not coming up too close as to get in their space, but failing to be very discreet in her observance of the two.
"...I assure you, it's alright. The sounds and smells are just slightly overwhelming him" Kate was obviously talking to Mei, who was doing a horrible job of pretending like she wasn't paying attention. "He's just a really anxious Pokemon, and needs a few minutes to stop and adjust."
She was aware that could make people think she abused him, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Garchomp, at least, was calming down from the combined effects of the ball to chew on, and Kate's snout rubs. Something she had learned he very much enjoyed a few months back.
"Hey, Machop, I've been wondering. What motivated you to lift that massive boulder all on your own? You know, the one you were trapped behind?" Kate tilted her head, staring at her partner pokemon.
He gave a quick reply under his breath, which Kate barely caught. "... Strongest Pokemon ever? Well, I can't say for sure, but I think you are already!"
Cue happy Machop noises, even if he knows she's lying.

So this was Kanto, huh? It had a nice, laid back feel to it, and seemed like a nice place to go for a vacation to just kick back and relax. As she was wandering along, her Mismagius floating in tow, she noticed a trainer. "Ah, hello there! Do you mind helping me with something?"
