What was genuine apathy transitioned to slight exasperation. Had he not cared, he wouldn’t have said anything about it. Then again, “Jennifer” didn’t know any better about him. No one did.
A conversation that had begun with the help of sweets was quickly turning sour-- that much was obvious to him. Who was he to persist in prying, or letting himself get hung up on the other’s words? It’d be easier to dismiss it all.
