My Friday kicked your Friday’s ass.
Birth Day || Bellace || Sept. 1st
hellsbxlls:
Everything felt like a dream so far. Even with all the stress, and the attack on the gala, everything went just as the baby books said they would. Her water broke, thoroughly shocking the hell out of Ace as he made breakfast for the two of them. And then it was to the hospital, watching as doctors and nurses surrounded her. Ace was there every moment (even when she nearly broke his hand from holding too tightly), reminding her that her husband was very much a superhero, that she couldn’t have possibly done this without him.
In the hours after, sleep overtook her, and every time she wasn’t asleep, she was hovering over the twins that lay in beds right next to hers. It felt like each second ticked by slower and slower, her heart engulfed in these two beautiful miracles that slept soundly. It felt like her own body was exhausted, and when she couldn’t stand any longer, she forced herself to get some kind of sleep.
A few hours later, Bella woke to the faint crying of one of the babies, exhaustion pulling at her as she forced herself to stand. She knew Ace was just as tired, trying to keep the babies taken care of himself so that she could rest, his sleeping form making her smile when she glanced at him on the couch.
Quinn was wide awake and begging for comfort, so Bella was quick to oblige without question, smiling down at the newborn as she pulled the baby close, rocking her gently. “Hey there beautiful,” she whispered, letting the little girl wrap her hand around one finger, the tiny fingers just barely wrapping completely around. “Look, there’s your daddy,” Bella said softly, nodding her head in Ace’s direction. “He’s basically a superhero, so mommy has to make him sleep so he won’t stay up all night staring at you,” she grinned as she tapped the newborns nose before she noticed Ace stirring. “Hey there sleepyhead. You act like you just gave birth or something,” she teased with a smile as she took a seat next to him on the couch.
@acelawrences
“I wasn’t asleep.” Ace replied quickly, with the kind of hoarse hilt to his voice that was indicative of someone who had just woken up. He had merely been resting his eyes, the very same ones that lit up in an instant as his wife came to sit beside him cradling their newborn daughter. This wasn’t his first time in a delivery room looking down at at a baby with some of his features and none of his mistakes yet he was bowled over completely by that rush of affection he felt at the mere sight of her perfect little face.
“Hey beauty girl, you giving your mommy trouble already?” He joked softly, a tone rarely heard by anyone other than his wife and his daughter. His firstborn daughter -- that was going to take some getting used to. He leaned down and placed a gentle kiss to Quinn’s forehead before he stood and walked over to where their son was still sleeping. He listened out for that soft snuffle of breath, reassuring himself that he was here and he was okay. The both of them were.
Despite his fears and the ominous warnings he had received when Jess was born and no matter how many times during Bella’s pregnancy he joked about how terrifying the idea of three daughters would be, nothing was quite as daunting to him as having a son. He always joked that he was given a daughter (daughters) for his sins, but there and then he was sure the sweet faced little boy wrapped in a blue blanket would be the one of the three he was going to have to watch.
The world wasn’t ready for another Ace Lawrence.
Reaching into the cot, he lifted him carefully into his arms, taking care to support his head as he came to sit next to his wife and daughter again. Much like his father when anything was going on, Jax didn’t stir from his sleep beyond a little movement before settling back into it.
“You did fucking incredible, by the way.” He spoke with his head turned towards Bella as he kept a hold on Jax. “And I know I’m not to say that word around Thing One and Thing Two and I promise I will stop from tomorrow onwards but that was the only word fully emphasised how fucking badass that was. Most hardcore thing I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen some shit. I love you.”
catalinaemiliagaviria:
Catalina was trained primarily in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. At five feet two inches, she was rather small, and this particular style of fighting heavily centered on a smaller opponent being able to use larger opponent’s weight against them. While she had trained in several other forms of fighting, this had always been her favorite and most useful. Being the ambitious woman she was, she decided to seek out not just any assassin, but the head assassin to train with. During their conversation she had encouraged Ace to underestimate her, pretending as if she was a much more inexperienced fighter than she truly was.
She entered the Diamond’s gym a few minutes before they were scheduled to train. She looked like one of those hot single 40 something year olds that seemed to show up to gyms to do everything but actually break a sweat. She was proud of her body and often felt most confident when she was most exposed, her age having absolutely no effect on her body image what so ever. As she jumped on a treadmill to warm up while she waited for Ace, she couldn’t help but be amused by the wandering eyes of some of the younger unimportant members of the organization who didn’t really know her well. After a few minutes, a small smile tugged at her lips as she spotted her opponent enter the gym. “Hey.” She called out to him as her machine slowed to a stop. @acelawrences
Ace knew with the impending arrival of his newborn twins just around the corner, he needed to do better. He needed to look after himself, at least enough to steal another eighteen years out of life so he was there to see them grow up. Stop smoking, drink less, exercise more, be less of an ass. While he had mentally committed to these positive strides, he had yet to put any of them into action. Agreeing to spar with Catalina was his first attempt.
“Yo.” He greeted as he weaved through a set of elliptical and came to stand beside her treadmill as she dismounted it. Cardio had always been the thing he liked the least, his favourite kind was a brisk walk to his preferred bar.
“You ready?”
drewthomason:
Well, it looked like somebody was feeling crabby this afternoon.. Drew arched his brow pointedly, the brown and green colour of his eyes swirled together like moss creeping over rich soil. He wanted to tell Ace to chill, relax, take a break and have a fucking Kit-Kat. Instead he simply leaned against the brick wall that ran up the side of the steps, resting his elbows on the edge of the low, brick wall. “I see you’re feeling as chipper as always.” He understood Ace’s anger, despite his flippant attitude towards the whole situation. Ace had a wife, two unborn children and Jessica to worry about. Drew only had himself. He declined Ace’s offer of a cigarette with a dismissive wave of his hand, his preferred choice of drug being a little white line. “I’m good, thanks. I think you need one more than I do.”
“Yeah, you’re not fucking wrong.” Ace agreed, pocketing the cigarette packet and finishing off the one he had been working on when Drew approached him. The thief had always struck him as a picture of easy going. He seemed laid back and more interested in the perks of the job rather than what he could bring to the table in the grand scheme of things. He respected that, if not for the birth of his daughter when he was sixteen years old Ace could envision himself having lived life in a similar manner.
“What did they about you in that room? Those masked fuckers.”
jesslawrence:
Jess offers him comfort in the way of her hand resting loosely on his shoulder, to remind them both that the other was there. That they had made it, that it was over, if only for now. “I’ll have you looking like Westworld extra in no time.” She tried again, her voice softer this time, humor fading into openness.
There’s an unspoken understanding that passed between them, they were acting strong for each other. It’s what they did, each in their own way but the root of which being the same. Jess wanted to protect her father, from extra stress or worry.
She had always been aware of how hard he worked to give her everything she needed. To keep her safe, and happy. And as far back as she can remember, she’d been looking for a way to help shoulder the burden in any way she could.
Maybe it’s why the question seems bittersweet at first, she could still remember the last time she had to come back home for a while. Not just for a weekend or a visit but a prolonged stay. She’d been open wounds under a thick layer of sick, and no one seemed to be able to see the bleeding but the man stood in front of her now. So there was no hesitation in her answer, no second thought necessary. When her father asked her to come home, Jessica couldn’t think of a spot in the world she’d rather be. “I gotta be honest with you, dad. Home sounds really great right now.”
“You know you’re always welcome.” Ace stated, though he was sure it was a sentiment she was more than aware of. For most of her life, his aversion to ever committing to anything serious stemmed from his own worry that he would end up with someone who either left like her mother did or didn’t get along with his daughter. If that had been the case and it came down to him having to choose, he didn’t need to think twice about who it would be.
Thankfully, that wasn’t something he had to feel anxious about anymore, his daughter and his wife couldn’t have gotten along better. Hence why he didn’t feel the need to call her and ask her if it was okay.
“I can come with you now if you want, grab some of your stuff, bring it to the house.” Ace offered, partially because he was in overprotective parent mode and also because he was looking for something to keep his idle hands busy so he didn’t wind up in a bar. Or a bar fight.

Wren: What's wrong? You scared of going outside now? I'm disappointed.
Ace: More scared of what I might do if I get my hands on one of those cunts who held my kid and my pregnant fucking wife hostage, or alternatively just on the first person who pisses me off.
Ace: Great fucking party, by the way. Good call on that one.
declancross:
Declan stood outside of the station entrance, taking a deep breath in and letting it out slowly. He hoped he would never step foot back in this place. After their huge ordeal at that gala and then having to put up with the police interrogations, he felt beyond exhausted and strained.
A couple of officers left the building and walked past him, nodding to him once. Nodding back, Declan took in another breath and let it out, along with his irritation towards the officers inside. Yes, all of the questions had been an experience he hadn’t needed right now. But the cops needed to get as many answers as possible to figure out who was behind this. Especially since it obviously had something to do with the damn gangs.
Walking away from the entrance, he pulled out a cigarette he had managed to bum off of someone and lit it up; he needed something to calm his nerves. Stopping near another smoker, he looked over with a nod before going back to his own cigarette. “What a night, huh?” he asked, recognizing the man’s face as one of the other hostages in the building.
Ace let his stare drift to his left, almost staring daggers at his uninvited company until he realised who he was. While he often forgot faces, he never forgot a bartender who made his drinks exactly the way he liked them. He was visibly less tense as he exhaled, not willing to say too much about that night to someone who wasn’t in his line of work. Even if he seemed to have also ended up in the line of fire.
“Fucking insane. This city’s getting worse.”
jesslawrence:
Jess nodded, catching the way he took back the wheel and steered it a different way, but not calling it out. She can understand a little bit of how he feels, not as a father or husband, but as another part of this family.
“It’s pretty bad.” She agreed, stepping forward for a closer look. “But I’ll make sure it doesn’t scar, I can’t have you looking the human equivalent of Simba’s evil uncle.” Jess said, examining the wound from where she stood. It’s not that she liked seeing her dad hurt, nor did she find it funny. But she was so used to it by now that if somewhere along the line she hadn’t learned to make jokes, she would have been crushed by now.
Ace dipped his head slightly, offering her a better vantage point at the butchering that he was given under the guise of sutures. By now, it was an art form for his daughter, he had been her canvas more time than he knew was fair.
“Once it adds to this whole ruggedly handsome shit I got going on and doesn’t leave me looking hideous I suppose I can live with it.” He tried by way of a joke though he simply couldn’t muster that easy going energy that he relied so heavily on. Her standing before him outside a police precinct was like the prelude to one of his worst nightmares -- that particular night terror being that he would find himself stood outside a building such as the one behind him, alone, answering questions about what had happened to his daughter due to the misfortune of sharing half his DNA.
He had always been adamant that he could keep her safe, the only thing quicker than how fast he could deposit a bullet with precision into another person was how readily he would take one for his first born if it ever came down to it. Now, he wasn’t so sure.
When he could identify a threat, he could put an end to it. By gun, by knife, by hand and by any other grimly creative means his mind could summon but when the enemy wore a mask and seemed to see through his it changed the game. He hated being unsure of the next move.
“Think you should come home for a while, kid. Just until this whole thing winds down. Would give me some peace of mind with you there, plus I think a little more clearly when you’re close by.” While there was no lie in the explanation he offered, what he didn’t verbalise was that one of his main worries was she would revert back to that bad place she had sunk to before.
drewthomason:
It wasn’t the first time Drew had walked these steps of the police station, but it was the first time he’d been questioned as a victim of a crime, not a suspect for one. Drew practically skipped down the steps after being done with his questioning, a delighted smile dancing along his lips. He found an odd sense of happiness and pleasure in seeing the familiar faces of the police officers who had questioned him time and time again, twisting in frustration and anger at his vague and veiled answers to their questions. He wasn’t a victim after all, he was a Diamond— they’d have their retribution. All of them would, Wren would see to that.
Drew was about to cross the road, hazel eyes looking both ways for oncoming traffic before he could cross, He didn’t just survive being taken hostage at last nights gala by members of the kings only to die after being run over by a soccer mum in her freaking mini van. The sound of cursing halted him, causing him to turn his head in amusement and saw him. Ace, leaning against a brick wall attempting to light a cigarette. He should have known it was him by the string of curses he muttered, a trademark of Ace’s or so Drew thought.
“They pull you in for questioning too?” It only made sense, really. Wren had ordered it mandatory that all Diamonds attend the gala last night, and although he never seen the older man he had seen Bella, and where Bella went he never strayed too far.
“No, I’m here of my own fucking volition because the only thing that lifts my mood after being held hostage by a bunch of spineless faceless cocksuckers is a chit chat with local law enforcement.” Ace deadpanned, his words lacking in that signature hint of humour they tended to carry. He was clearly agitated, the night that had transpired weighing on him more heavier than he cared to admit to -- not that that was the thief who stood before him’s fault, yet that didn’t spare him from Ace’s irritation by fault of proxy.
He held out his three quarters empty box of Marlboro in a silent offer of a cigarette and a truce, saying without sounds and syllables that he wouldn’t lose his shit if Drew decided to engage with him further.
marshallford:
They had questioned him at the hospital and all but ordered him down to the local precinct to answer some more questions, name names, point out faces. He had made the excuse that he’d gotten clocked in the head so hard he hadn’t seen much of anything during the whole ordeal, which of course wasn’t true. Yeah, his face was busted but he had been alert the entire time of their abduction. Bobby had even tried to play the buddy cop routine with him and Marshall wasn’t having any of it. He wasn’t about to get ousted from the Diamonds for mouthing off to the cops. No matter how innocuous the details may be.
He left the station with something that sounded like a warning for him not to leave the city because they may want to ask him more questions in the near future. Marshall had spotted Ace earlier in the precinct. He had kept his distance from any of the Diamonds so the cops didn’t have more to question him about. Once they were outside away from their interrogators though, he decided to approach him. “Ace,” he greeted the man, ducking just out of view of the officers who were walking in and out of the building. “How’s the wife?”
“As well as you’d expect someone who’s carrying twins to be after something like that.” Ace responded once he realised who was talking to him, the lack of a police badge made him more open to conversation than he had been sat in a poorly lit interrogation room with subtle threats wrapped in forced concern being aimed in his direction.
He stopped talking only to take a long drag of his cigarette, the silence that followed enough for him to let his mind wander back to that evening, all the blanks that still needed filling in for him. Ace was accustomed to being the danger in the room, not falling at it’s mercy.
“You see anything that night?” He asked, knowing Marshall’s role by Wren’s side afforded him more of an opportunity to know his surroundings than Ace could manage where there was an open bar.

hellsbxlls:
Bella had only been slightly surprised that she was untouched, save for a sprained ankle and small cut on the head from her own clumsiness. After wrapping her own ankle, she refused to let anyone else touch her, mostly because she didn’t want to end up forced to go to the hospital ‘just in case’. They’d been…surprisingly careful with her, right down to making sure that she wasn’t actually in distress with the babies.
Sitting in the police station felt wrong, almost like it was sacrilegious in a way. The interrogation wasn’t anything remotely close to hers, just a few cops playing nice and asking her if she wanted to ‘catch the guys who did this’. In her mind she was thinking of all the things Wren could do, things that would make the overeager cop’s stomach turn. But she kept quiet, offering a smile and a reassurance that she saw nothing, heard nothing, and all in all, had nothing to offer them. When it was finally over, she headed out of the police station with a coat wrapped around her shoulders offered by a man she couldn’t remember, huffing out a breath as she took a seat outside the station and ordered a car service to take her home finally.
“It’s a wonder those jackasses ever solve shit.” Ace announced, emerging from the station a few seconds after his wife. He had nearly gotten himself arrested due to how insistent he had been that he wouldn’t be leaving her alone, him sat arms folded in a chair near to where she was being questioned was the middle ground compromise that didn’t land him in a holding cell. With a criminal record that spanned as many decades as his, he knew that sympathetic treatment wasn’t because of who he was or what he had been through but rather the babies growing in his wife’s womb.
“Who the fuck thinks it’s a good idea to haul people into police stations after something like that?” He asked redundantly, sitting down next to Bella and eyeing her phone to see how long it would take for the uber to get there. “You alright? I’m guessing their interrogation tactics were decidedly less colourful than yours.”
jesslawrence:
She’d been through three different rounds of it and her answers never changed: I don’t know anything. I didn’t see their faces. I just tried to do what I could do to help. Jess had administered as much first aid as she could to the people who needed it in her group. She’d tried to keep herself as helpful and necessary as possible, because if she hadn’t been necessary in some way things might have ended differently. But she’d managed to walk away with only a few injuries.
It’s not her body that needed healing though, and when she saw her dad across the parking lot, her feet carried her to the one place that felt safe at the moment. “I’m not used to see someone else’s handy work on you.” She nodded to the stitches, trying to bridge the tension with a joke. “How’s Bella?”
“She’s alright, considering.” Ace answered after he had exhaled, deliberately stubbing out the cigarette on the wall behind him and flicking it away. He had told himself when he found out about the twins he wouldn’t smoke around his children, and that included the one stood before him even if she was old enough to join him in his bad habit.
“Look at this shit.” He pointed to the stitches on his forehead, swerving them back to that point because every time he thought about his pregnant wife being held hostage he got the sort of angry that lead to smashing things. Not a good look outside a cop shop. “That’s gonna fucking scar, he was a butcher. I swear it was his second day on the job. Shaky hands and all that.”
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
“Fucking fucks.” Ace muttered as he cupped a hand around the cigarette hanging out of his mouth so he could light it against the breeze, leaning against the wall outside the police station he had just emerged from. After getting the gash above his eye stitched he had been near hauled in to be questioned, dumbasses asking dumb questions that he had no intention of asking about the night of the gala.
He felt no inclination to protect those who had taken him captive, but that was his business and he handled his own without any need for badges and police officers. That just made more problems for himself. Taking a long drag, he took his phone out and checked it, grateful that he hadn’t had his burner on him when this whole mess had occurred.
