HE’D PROMISED THE OTHER FOOD, which … had somehow turned into them going on a trip out to eat. granted, this was not an outing that his vice was not to know about — considering, he wasn’t supposed to be eating food that was made by anyone but him. with ace there as a semi - willing food tester, what was the worst that could go wrong? maybe he did not know that he would be doing so, but kalim would graciously offer him the first bite of his food with a smile — a habit he might have picked up from someone else. though, before they had to worry about the matter of eating, they had to worry about whether or not they would ever find the place.
following directions on his phone, there should have been no way they had gotten so lost. he was leading them exactly where it said, and yet they had been walking for over an hour now ! it was no wonder that the other was getting cranky about it, no matter how positive that he could be, he was starting to feel the exhaustion of walking for so long on an empty stomach as well. ❝ we might be lost. ❞ he says, not wanting to test the other entirely. looking at his phone again, it said they were close to the dennys, but he didn’t see any signs for it in the immediate area. just how the other decided that it had to be in the direction that he was pointing, he didn’t know — but who was he to question it after he was getting them lost for so long.
eyes widen for a moment, before he nods. he doesn’t fight handing over his phone. it wasn’t smart to have him in charge of the directions in the first place, so if he had a chance to pass that responsibility off, he was more than willing. looking over ace’s shoulder at his phone, he says, ❝ see it only says it’s around the corner, but we’ve already walked around the block — ❞ a few times, more than enough to know that it was definitely not there. ❝ ah, i really hope we aren’t lost. what if we don’t find it? ❞
What he worried about the most, seemed to have come true. Although he practically begged for a far different outcome, he was met with bitter disappointment. As he waited for Kalim’s response, he could feel his jaw clench tightly; hand form into a firm fist. The other might not have admitted to it yet, but deep down Ace knew that their situation didn’t look good. The two of them were exhausted after walking for this long. Without a single drop of water, or a crumb of food, they wouldn’t be able to last for much longer. At this point, he was surprised that neither one of them dropped to their knees. Despite technology being a great development, their dependence on it turned out to be disastrous. They were supposed to be enjoying their silky smooth pancakes by now, but they were unable to find the building. Ace wasn’t sure whether to blame the phone, or its owner.
At last, the words the redhead didn’t want to hear the most, left Kalim’s lips. They might be lost. However, in Ace’s head it sounded more like they were already lost. His fist shook in frustration. Is this how the two of them meet their end? Dehydrated, starved and lost, because the Maps app decided to not show them where Denny’s was? He wouldn’t allow it — he couldn’t. Thus, when the other teenager’s phone was handed over to him, he got to work immediately. He studied the map for a long time, referencing the street names with those on his screen, and ones he could see. His face was scrunched ever so slightly as he focused on the task at hand. After a while, he looked into Kalim’s eyes with a sigh. “I don’t know how to read maps.” he admitted with a serious tone of voice, even though he appeared as though he might break at any point.
“I know, it just doesn’t make any sense.” they have walked around the block more than a dozen times, and there was no sign of Denny’s. It seemed as though the building simply vanished into thin air, with no traces left behind. “It has to be somewhere around here.” his expression turned somewhat sour at Kalim’s next statement. “Don’t say that, dude. We will find it, as if my life depends on it. I mean, it kinda does.” he paused for a moment, before continuing. “If we don’t find it then… then we might need to go IHOP.” there was a hint of pain behind his words. He didn’t want to go there. Not after last time. “Let’s go... this way.” he pointed in one direction. “We need to try one last time, Kalim.”
