the most important part of dick graysonâs character is that he is the exact opposite of batman. his entire purpose as a character is to be that opposite so there is a balance - kinda like âgood cop, bad copâ vibes, but a little more complex. its hard to discuss it with the current comics (in which i will never, ever consider that for dick as a character), but as a character whoâs grown from the original comics; being the opposite of batman is super important to dickâs personality as a whole.
vengeance isnât really what dick goes by, nor is he consistently dark and broody. he LOVES helping people, he doesnât even care if he dies from that selfless act, but he wants to protect people out of a need (due to guilt), and a want (to be his own person). with that, his charm around people have always been key, especially when people are just naturally attracted to dick. he is charming, he is inspirational, he knows how to talk to people, and he also knows how to convince others that he is ok.
HOWEVER! because he is a bit⌠uh⌠not very well in keeping good care of himself, he will eventually try and fix himself - because people do love him, and he cares about people enough to take care of himself. while with batman, he  enjoys being alone⌠even when he works better with a partner. but not only does batman need a partner, he needs someone who ISNâT like him to begin with. having that balance is SUPER important within the batman family, along with someone (like dick) to put his foot down when too many people that they know are getting hurt because of batmanâs carelessness with companionships.
now, where am i going with this? well, i am a firm believer in keeping good things good, and seeing dick as a character grow from his older comics really put a smile on my face - especially since he was created to be this inspirational, heart warming figure with complexities. even as batman, he wasnât really bruceâs batman - because thatâs not who he is. he was good as batman because he was still HIMSELF while donning the costume of the dark knight. he isnât like tim drake who is more like batman than anyone else, or as jason todd who is more vigilante hellbent on vengeance and âcleaning gothamâs streetsâ and wanting nothing to do with the batman family. dick is entirely different, but still retaining some obvious similarities to batman.
anyways, this post is getting a little too long (whoops!) so just tl;dr: dick grayson isnât batman, he isnât broody and violent, and i hate that dc is putting dick down this path when he shouldnât. he is the heart of dc comics, and possibly even more inspirational than superman. i love my circus son.
