Cinder Fall
The Blood Countess
The only reason Cinder hasn’t got her redemption arc is because the plot still need her to be the villain
I would like to argue that the reason cinder hasn't got a redemption arc is cause...she doesn't want one lmao. Cinder doesn't want to be good y'all! She doesn't want to do better and be good, she's just a horrible, vile, bitch. She hasn't expressed the slightest bit of true regret for any of her actions and the people that were hurt by them. She had a breakdown over everything that she's done but that breakdown was because she's put all this effort into hurting people, so much effort that it's hurt HER in process, only for it all to kinda be for naught, because doing all this hasn't made her feel better, hasn't helped her get over what happened to her in the past-she don't give a shit about other people's pain and suffering babes. Just her own.
And that's okay. More than okay, it's very sexy of her actually. Cinder's def in my top three favorite RWBY characters, I love her so much, I really do, but part of her charm is how much of a villain she is. I don't think she'll get a redemption arc and tbh I don't want her to. A big part of why I love Cinder is that she's such a legitimately bad person, it's great, it's a huge part of her charm for me! I don't want that taken away from her. Not every villain needs redemption, having evil faves is great and sometimes that evil fave staying evil is for the best. When the show doesn't need Cinder to be a villain anymore, I truly believe she'll either be killed or just defeated and imprisoned or something like that, not that she'll be redeemed. And that's alright, what better way for her reign of terror to come to a close? Let her fight and fight and fight these good guys until the very end. It's what she would want, dontcha think? Of course what she really wants is to win but if she can't, she sure as shit wouldn't join the people who beat her. She's too prideful to team up with an opponent who bested her and too wrathful and too greedy and too envious towards the world that she'd be saving to even consider it, too much of an unrepentant sinner to try to be good, to get redeemed by making those strives to be a better person, and I love her for it.
I would like to counter argue that we don’t know whether she wants to be redeemed or not? heck, we don’t even know if she knows redemption is possible if she wants it
I mean, i might be wrong but, i don’t remember her having the chance to choose to be evil or to be good.
Now, i agree the writers could have killed her, imprisoned her, or whatever when they’re done making her the villain, but i don’t think that’s a satisfying ending to her story arc. They already “killed” her a few times, and she’s already been defeated a lot, so for her to end up dead or just defeated seems.. boring? I mean why make her go through all of that if she’s going to be killed anyway?
The plot still need her to be the villain because they may have something planned for her development. If in the future volumes she continues to choose evil when she is given the opportunity, option, and reason to be good, then yeah she’s irredeemable. But for now, i still believe she’s going to be redeemed
See but that's the problem op I don't think her knowing redemption is an option matters or not! She's made the choice to do the wrong thing every time she had an option. She goes out of her way to raise hell, she wouldn't choose to do something good, she's had plenty of opportunities and options to do so, to even just say out of the situation and she still inserts herself into it to fuck shit up for the good guys y'know? She shouldn't need a reason to opt to try to do better besides feeling bad about doing the wrong thing, and cinder has NEVER EVER expressed even the slightest bit of regret after doing something fucked up, never hesitated to hurt someone else with a smile on her face. As it stands right now if Cinder got redeemed it would literally come out of nowhere, because we've had no indicators whatsoever that she doesn't like being a horrible person, and with the direction we've seen her character going that's unlikely to change! Babygirl literally was confronted about her terrible behavior and learned the power of friendship for the express reason of using it for evil lmao! She's nasty she's bad she's not gonna learn the error of her ways. And in my opinion that's not boring that's a fitting end for her. RWBY loves giving people chances to make it right/do the right thing, and we see plenty characters take this chance (i.e Raven helping Yang out with finding Ruby and then later letting her take the relic. Emerald opting to help Oscar, Hazel doing the same. baby republican Whitley getting to prove himself as not the asshole his father was, ECT) and some times these characters just aren't gonna do that! The bees killed Adam as a last resort, Team RWBY n Co tried to stick by Ironwood as long as they could before he just went too far, iirc Ruby asked Torchwick why the hell he was doing all this shit at their final confrontation- To me it's in the cards this-being given a chance to do good and not taking it, paying dearly for it-is going to be something that happens to Cinder too. We've seen her get the shit beat out of her and 'killed' but she's only gotten worse for it y'know? She's on a steady spiral downwards and I think we're not gonna see her turn around, I think she's just gonna hit rock bottom.
Okay i’m a bit lost here, and might need to rewatch RWBY again because i don’t recall Cinder have the opportunity and option to choose
Emerald defect because she has the opportunity to help Oscar, she has the option and took it, she has a reason. She fears Salem, she’s clearly only join Salem for Cinder
Adam was given the opportunity and option to walk away, but he didn’t take it
Same goes for ironwood, he could have let those ships evacuate mantle, but he didn’t. They put him in prison, but when he’s out, he went after Winter and tried to kill her
Torchwick got eaten when he was monologuing if i recall, so he didn’t really have the chance to even consider his options
Cinder has none of that
I agree that as it stands now, if Cinder suddenly got redeemed, it’d be coming out of nowhere
But saying she cannot be redeemed feels a little bit prematured
The only reason Cinder hasn’t got her redemption arc is because the plot still need her to be the villain
