A fun fact about this portrait of Junot was the original print was commissioned by the town of Montbard during the July monarchy !
The Duke of Abrantès was a friend of the fine arts and possessed a rich library and a valuable art gallery. The full-length portrait, an engraving of which we include here, was commissioned by the town of Montbard, where the coffin of General Junot are buried; it was at the request of Mr. Vatout, deputy of the Côte-d'Or, and Mr. Laribe, sub-prefect of the district of Sémur, that this work was entrusted by the king to the talent of Mr. Ravérat, a young painter born in the department. This painting was exhibited at the last Salon, and was honoured with the king's approval, who commissioned the artist to reproduce it for the Palace of Versailles. How many towns should follow the example of Montbard and offer a testament of remembrance to the great men they have produced! source; Annuaire des artistes : recueil des documents qui peuvent intéresser les artistes et les amateurs
I just love how much his home town loves him it's so touching 😭❤️🩹

I haven't posted anything for ages, it feels like!
I finished that painting of Marmont ☺️ and also worked on some other pieces.
By the way, I wanted to ask you @auguste-marmonts-only-fan
Hope I'm not bothering you —sorry in advance! I'm really curious: did Marmont play the violin after he became an adult? And did he perform in public or at banquets? 🤔 I read a paper that mentioned he once learned painting and the violin as a child... and seemed to have a real talent for them.
🥺🌹
