Several people in Uganda work hard to earn a living, and due to the fluctuating prices, it's hard to save since what the family head earns too is never a guarantee or constant. When it came to the lockdown, many things came to a standstill but, tummies never stopped demanding. As Ugandans hid from the scary pandemic, many families were then exposed to hunger as family heads spent months home not earning but having to feed the family. Some families, would be shown on television cooking banana peelings to feed their children, not because they wished to; but due to lack. And when Active me and You noticed that, we started searching for those deeperate families and giving them food to feed their children. We've reached out to several needy families, blessed them, and left them grinning. We, however, wish to reach out to more but we’re limited by funds. One of the challenges faced by a Ugandan Youth is finding Capital to start a business. That is one of the reasons why you spot many carrying luggage in numerous trading centres to survive. Active me and You has this time round reached out to several youths and gave them piglets as start-up capital. In Uganda, piggery is one of the profitable businesses that one can do on a part-time schedule. Then earn him a good life in the future, as one piglet costs 60,000shs. Just imagine if your sow produces ten (10) piglets! We were blessed to witness the youths we reached out to smiling and airing out a continuous "God bless you for being kind." Many Youths are still in need and wish to have this kind of support from us. But we are limited by funds, and we believe that once you join hands with us, we can make a big difference. Menstruation is a monthly reality to a girl child. And it’s always the duty of a parent/mother to teach her daughter how to handle this situation in case it happens, but it has come to our notice that some parents find it hard mentioning it to their daughters. And due to that, the situation could happen to the girl while in class and in case no one runs to her rescue, then her day could be ruined. Away from the fact that parents don’t teach the girl child about menstruation, some can’t afford the cost of pads/sanitary towels in Uganda. Honestly, we all know that every girl/women in such a situation needs a pad/sanitary towels and those who can’t afford the cost, end up using dirty clothes which then infect them with various diseases. Having a pad/sanitary towels ready for a girl child could sound a lot simple for you my dear reader, but in the community we are located; if one can’t afford a meal a day, then how can she buy a pad or sanitary towels for her two daughters! Therefore; Active me and You joins hands with parents and some times schools, then teach the girl child about her red days and give pads, menstrual caps, sanitary towels to several girls in homes plus schools. We have witnessed parents and girls saying a sincere thank you to us and in the same spirit, we thank all the people standing with us to bring back the long gone smiles to our local community members. Good sanitation in communities is one of the most important aspects. A few days back we found Nalongo Namuyomba crying for a poorly constructed latrine of timber and rusty iron sheets that could even take their lives, we were so concerned about the situation they were in by that time we met her. Team Activemeandyou and Friends have managed to dig up a pit Latrtine and started the construction on Saturday 24th July 2021 trying to save this family. We are so thankfull for all those that are doing grate jobs of putting activemeandyou on the map of the world through the donations you make to us. Small towns in rural areas lag behind cities in drinking water and sanitation access globally. Closing this gap requires developing service models for areas with both urban and rural characteristics. Data sources included household interviews (n = 500) and water quality samples from sources and storage containers. Households in more urban (as compared to rural) cells were more likely to use improved water sources (including piped water on-premises), make regular payments for water, rely on shared sanitation facilities, and some of the number make use of manual sludge emptying services whereas many in rural areas are using water from swamps and Most households (70%) use unlined pit latrine not intended for emptying and reuse. We are in a need for integrated services models to expand rural–urban water and sanitation coverage in areas of Kyotera to improve lives of people through our sanitation campaign.
