this is the story of calypso. the boy who was once a titan. the son of of atlas. cursed to live an eternity in the island of ogypia. but things changed one night when a storm hit the place. everything from then on had changed and he had realized that life as he knew it would never be the same. now this is where the story continues and begins for caleb waters. this is his story. one he will never forget.

Theo doesn’t even remember seeing him before, today was his first time meeting him.  ‘’ Yeah I think you were just distracted. You’re lucky that I came to your rescue.  It’s no problem.’’ Theo looked around his room and saw how well it was decorated. ‘’ Pretty nice room’’

    He gave Theo a soft smile.  “Thank you,” he responded.  “I’m in transition of moving actually.  But I try to come here if I ever needed some space,” he said.  “I’m Caleb by the way,” he said.  “And thanks for being my hero,” he chuckled.

Theo knocked on the door before entering. ‘’ Um hi, I saw that you left your bag at the park so I wanted to give it to you before someone took it.’’ Theo felt really awkward just entering his house like this but he was just trying to do a good thing. ‘’ If you’re busy I will just leave the bag here and what not.’’

    Eyes wandered over to look at the stranger.  He had seen him before, but never really done much.  Caleb sat up and nodded.  “No it’s ok.  I didn’t even know I left my bag.  Thank you,” he responded as he grabbed it from him.  “Maybe I’m more off than I thought.”

       “It’s just been a hard last few days, really,” Caleb sighed as he laid on his bed.  “Sorry I’ve been a bit awful.  I know I missed a few good things around here,” he responded.  “Don’t tell me I missed a birthday or something.”

“That too. I always say, burning your past is a great way to build your future.” At this point, Harvey could feel the liquor creeping up on him. His speech was becoming a bit more slurred the more he talked to his friend. “I see. I have to admit, I’m not the best with relationships, either. Though mainly the reason they don’t last is my fault more than anything.” Harvey shrugged, feeling a bit vulnerable. “Maybe I need to do the same thing. More dates, more friends. Hey! We can hang out more!” He threw his arm around Caleb’s shoulder, leaning on him. “Sounds like a plan, right?”

    Caleb agreed.  Maybe he did need to just take a step back.  Eyes turned to lock onto the other’s and he nodded.  “I think that is best,” he replied.  “And I am so very down to hang out with you more.  We definitely need to.  Maybe do a sleepover or something.  Just like old times,” he chuckled as he leaned closer to the other.  “I know I would love to spend more time with you.”

Austin didn’t have as much faith in the population as Caleb did but he was gonna try and not think about it so much. He didn’t come all the way out here just to worry about the safety of others. “Oh, really? Are there any you have your eye on?”

     “Any of the firemen?  I don’t think so,” he chuckled.  “But there are plenty of good looking ones.  I can definitely watch right?  Especially when some of them are wearing those tank tops, so very nice,” he grinned.  “How bout you?”

“Well, the probability of that happening only rises higher and higher as the night goes on.” He’d seen more than enough intoxicated people to know the signs when he sees them. The people in charge may be keeping a close eye out but he’s doing that just the same.

    “Well, let’s hope that e all are smarter than that,” he chuckled.  “The previous years it’s been alright.  But I guess you never know,” Caleb responded.  “People just want to enjoy themselves, that’s all.  At least there are plenty of attractive firemen watching out for us.”

“As fun as this bonfire is, my ‘doctor’s eye’ is gonna tell me that the night won’t be over until someone’s got to go to hospital for burn injuries. I don’t wanna be a downer or anything, just saying….”

  “What, you think someone is going to burn?” he chuckled.  “Seems like the firemen can handle it.  They seem to be doing the job alright, so far,” he grinned.

Finishing off his first drink, Harv decided that tonight was exactly what he needed to relax a bit. “Well, besides a reason to see things burn, isn’t that why we all come out tonight.” He ordered another drink hoping to feel intoxicated pretty soon. “Ehh, his loss. What about you, Caleb? Anybody around here piqued your interest? Plenty of guys here, maybe you’ll get lucky,” Harvey teased a bit, playfully winking at the other. “ It was a jacket one of my exes left in my apartment. It’s hard to return items when guys won’t even return calls.”

    “Hmm, well, to watch things burn and also to hope for a better future,” Caleb said.  The young male grabbed his drink and took a sip.  He definitely enjoyed the bit of burn he got from it.  Eyes turned to look at Harvey and smiled.  “I don’t know anymore,” Caleb honestly responded.  “I feel like I have the worst luck with finding someone.  And when I do, they all leave,” he said.  “Perhaps it is me, so maybe I just need a pause on the finding love scene.  Maybe go on dates, or hang with more friends, who knows.”  He chuckled.  “Yes, good thing you burned that sucker!”

Harvey let go of his friend as he recalled what happened so far. “You know I’ve never really been good at showing up on time but luckily, the best part of any events never happens at the beginning.” He smiled, contempt with his theory on his lack of punctuality. He grabbed his drink and took a few slips, feeling the alcohol warm his body. “He obviously didn’t recognize how awesome you are. However, you have me who does.” He showed off his smile to his friend, after nudging him in his side. “What did you burn? If you don’t mind telling.”

     “That is very true,” Caleb grinned.  “Well, like I said, you haven’t missed much.  The barbecue is still going.  People are coming in and out to burn their items, but it seems like most of them are just here to drink the rest of the night,” he said.  “Nah.  I think he has a love interest he wants to continue with a particular person,” he chuckled.  “And just a picture of someone I really liked,” he lied.  Of course he couldn’t tell the other the truth of what he burned.  It was something from his true past, from when he was just Calypso.  “How bout you?”

Harvey scoured his apartment for anything to burn at the bonfire. This was a common occurrence for him. Every year he needed something to burn so he wouldn’t show up empty handed and every year he waited until the last minute to find something. This year he had decided on burning one of the jackets he had acquired from his past relationships. He tried to throw away most of his exes’ items but this particular jacket must have slipped through the cracks of his apartment. Throwing it a bag, Harvey rushed out of his house, hoping he wouldn’t miss much of the festivities. 

Arriving at the bonfire, Harv scanned the beach for how many people had already shown up. He threw the balled up hoodie into the flames and headed to grab a drink. Memories of past relationships started to flood his mind and that was never good. With alcohol in his system, it’ll be a bit easier to forget and this event would be a bit more fun. “I didn’t miss much, did I?” Speaking out to the man he walked up next to at the bar.

     Caleb finally decided to burn his own item after being at the event for a few hours.  Once it was done, he made his way towards the bar close by and grabbed himself a drink.  He definitely needed this himself.  It was more to celebrate his new beginnings and welcome the new Caleb.  He had said goodbye to Calypso today.  Goodbye to the Titan that he would never return.  But who knew, things could change.  He just wished they stayed like this.  He rather it have it this way.

      When he heard a familiar voice, he turned to look at the face.  “Harvey!” he grinned as he embraced the other.  “Thought you wouldn’t have made it.  I’ve spending time with Percy earlier, but of course, got ditched.  Then again he has others to worry about,” he smiled.  “Nah, you didn’t miss much.  Finished burning my item a bit ago.”

“A year is still a year.” he stuck his tongue out at Caleb. The other boy was one of the few people that saw this side of Caleb, and even he didn’t get to right away. Percy didn’t just let himself go around anyone, not normally. “A new us.” he mused, looking up at the sky that was beginning to grow darker by the second. “That sounds like a plan. Hey, you can start with mine, if you’d like.” he turned to Caleb and smiled back at him. “Whoa, whoa, calm down. No body said anything about marriage…we just went on one date.” he held up his hands in a calming motion. Percy didn’t even know if Hayden was that serious, or if he was even ready to take steps in that direction. “He took me out to a nice Italian place, and we talked for a long time. Then we walked on the beach late at night, and when he took me home…he kissed me.”

    “Yea, that is true,” he responded.  “I’m rather excited that I’ll finally get things done,” he smiled.  “To the new us,” he smiled.  It definitely was a good feeling.  He was glad that he had this life.  Having a new father that would be there.  And surrounded by people that absolutely loved him.  That was amazing.  “Ok, ok, so no marriage, anytime soon,” he laughed.  “But must have been nice.  Romantic even!” he grinned.  “That’s beautiful,” he said.  “Maybe you’ll be a new ship.  Better keep it hush, hush though or the gossip blog is going to be all over this.”

After putting in some late hours volunteering at the hospital Hollis finally made his way out to the beach for the bonfire. He wasn’t really going to celebrate, since he hadn’t actually been able to finish his stint in college, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to go to the annual event to burn a memento from his past that felt like an anchor too him. Once he made it to the beach the party had already started, and it looked like it had been raging for quiet a while now with how high the fire was, so instead of idling near the edge he opened his shirt (to fit in with the beachy feel) and grabbed himself a drink before making his way towards the bonfire. “You know,” Hollis opened with as he moved to stand beside someone that didn’t seem to have anyone else around at the moment, “the only thing that would make this night more perfect would be giant marshmallows to go with the giant bonfire. Then again,” he mused as he nodded at a couple being a bit heavy handed in public, “seems like most people are a bit preoccupied.”

    Caleb found himself alone.  Eyes focused on the fire.  The item in his hand that he was ready to burn.  He twirled it with his fingers until he heard a familiar voice.  Quickly, he placed the item back in his pocket and turned to the one speaking.  It was Hollis, the guy he met the other day.  A soft smile spreading over his lips.  “That would be nice.  But I don’t think I want my marshmallow to taste like a sweater or plastic, or whatever else they burn in there,” he chuckled.  “But hey, wouldn’t mind getting a smaller fire starter to actually burn some,” he grinned.  His attention turned to look at the couple that was nearby, they were making out, lips locked together like they couldn’t find any other reason to do this elsewhere.  “Well, you’re either enjoying it by appreciating the event, or finding someone else and appreciate it with them,” Caleb chuckled.

There was definitely something familiar about the young man but as far as Garrett was concerned that just meant he might have been on the reserve once or twice, or maybe even on one of the island tours, so it didn’t really count as an actual meeting– especially since, up until a few weeks ago, he was still very distracted by his own reservations. “Good, I’m glad– and it’s a pleasure to meet you Caleb– the name’s Garrett, Garrett Lance and in my defense I haven’t really made a habit of coming into the city. I generally prefer keeping to myself up on the islands natural habitat reserve– that is when I’m not giving tours. If I’d known coming to events like this would give me the chance to meet such kind people though I might have started coming sooner.”

    “I see,” he chuckled.  “Well, even if you are from the other side of the island it seems that people still liked to make it up here for this event.  I guess to many it just holds meaning, or it becomes a tradition to start fresh or something,” he responded.  “Hell, I had my fair share of wanting to do the same.  But since a bit ago, that seemed the case to me, I decided why not come here to get to know others,” he chuckled.  “And it’s nice to meet you too, Garrett.  And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to keep to yourself,” he smiled.

Youth. It was a bit of a dark thought to have, but every time Garrett stumbled upon meeting a new one he couldn’t himself from feeling Calym was littered in their kind. Now, he adored children but it was the older ones– the ones that could drink but still held that childish innocence in their faces– that gave him bitter thoughts; my kids should be this old now. They made him miss his family even more, and they always served as a reminder that he’d messed up. Maybe it was good though, at this bonfire anyways– maybe he could use that bitterness as a motivation to actually put forth the effort to change. “Ah, by first street. Makes sense why I missed it, I came in off the Reserves back-roads. If you’re hungry then we might as well just go together– I wouldn’t mind the company.”

    Eyes narrowed on the man.  He knew this man.  In another lifetime of course.  This was Gaia.  Well now the cursed version.  Caleb gave him a soft smile before agreeing.  This was the first of a primordial deity he had seen.  Would he see another soon.  Would he find the other Titans here as well?  Maybe his actual parents.  Either way, he gave the man a smile.  “Sure,” he responded.  “I’m happy to go with you,” Caleb said as he started heading towards the bar location.  “I’m Caleb by the way,” he smiled.  “I don’t think I’ve seen you before.  Then again, big island, many people.  Always nice meeting someone new.”
