I think god meant to make william shatner gay. I think william shatner would be happier if he was a gay
I think william shatner would love it if he was gay. He would never stop talking about it on Twitter. He would relish being the first gay star trek captain and would say shit like “Kirk wasn’t gay but I made him gay” and dudebros would be so mad about it and tell him to stop but he would just keep giving cunty replies, much like he does now but with an excuse. He would have even crazier beef with george takei where there’s always an unspoken implication that he thinks takei doesn’t like him because shatner wouldn’t fuck him. He would be a guest judge on drag race and look vaguely uncomfortable the entire time because he’s not that kind of gay and he’s still old and weird about like. Men wearing nail polish. He would claim that anyone that didn’t like him is being homophobic and it wouldn’t matter how unpleasant he was because he would have a squad of loyal gay reply guys who would say shit like “slay” under every single tweet he made. He would be so much happier if he was gay and I think he knows it.

Due to the paucity of green spaces, New Yorkers do almost anything on the roof. Here, kids are playing and learning about gardening thanks to a project by the National Council of Jewish Women NY, 1929.

When I watched I Saw The TV Glow for the first time, I watched it with my mom. We finished it, and she was like "Wow, that was a really weird movie! I didn't really understand it. It was kinda long. Weird film! Goodnight!" and she went to bed while I stared at the end credits like this
thank you again to everyone who has submitted a title. you all have made this project such a sweet, communal undertaking, and i'm so proud to be among all of you in this little cinema.
Have you seen Anders als die Andern (Different from the Others)? It is a German film from 1919 and possibly the first ever pro-gay film.
You can watch a reconstruction from the the fragments that survived the Nazis on the Internet Archive here (in English): https://archive.org/details/silent-anders-als-die-andern-aka-different-from-the-others
what a treasure. i hadn't heard of this and think it's a perfect gem. thank you sarah this one will be on the list for sure !!! <3

(not as well-known) queer movies off the dome:
knife + heart (french thriller)
funeral parade of roses (japanese experimental feature film)
my beautiful laundrette (dramedy) (is that a real word) (daniel day lewis!!!)
the incredibly true adventures of 2 girls in love (coming of age)
happy together (HK queer romance/drama)
:-)
georgia love of my life. my beautiful laundrette is such a perfect film AND the only one of these i've seen. can't wait to see the others for the first time. love you leagues and leagues. THANK U ! !
Hello! It's been ages so I hope you are doing well, but I saw you were interested in queer film recs and I just absolutely enjoy suggesting these type of works so here are some films that hopefully you will like as well!: Female Trouble (1974) - Classic pre-Hairspray John Waters Victor/Victoria (1982) - Amazing gender bent comedy and adapted from a 1930s German film, Victor and Victoria Looking for Langston (1989) - Such a gorgeous British film, and an essential watch for international queer cinema Orlando (1992) – An adaption of the Virginia Woolf story, haven’t watched it in ages but adored it in college The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) - Classic queer Australian cinema The Killer Condom (1996) – This is my favorite queer horror, plus H.R. Giger made the monster designs. I always recommend it to people and hopefully you’ll enjoy it as well! Saving Face (2004) – A BIPOC lesbian film with a happy ending! The queer indie rom coms of the late 90s early 00s are a fascinating often overlooked period as well
Behind the Candelabra (2013) – Love this film, unhinged in the best ways I also wanted to include some docs because I love learning more about queer history and I don’t think many were recommended in your initial ask:
Word Is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives (1977) - First queer doc I ever watched in middle and honestly changed my life Before Stonewall (1984) – A great doc to learn about queer culture with firsthand accounts Paris is Burning (1990) – Classic New Queer Cinema doc The Celluloid Closet (1995) – Great resource for learning more about queer rep in films both in front and behind the scenes Reel in the Closet (2015) – This doc made me WEEP I loved it so much. If you have trouble accessing this let me know, I may or may not have a copy The Stroll (2023) – Focuses on BIPOC sex work in NY in the meatpacking district, one of the directors Zackary Drucker has done several other trans focused works many of them of a be trans do crime energy
If you end up watching any of these my Letterboxd account - Es *waves awkwardly at the audience* is fine go by! I primarily research queer animated rep and that's more of my expertise, but while a lot of the features can linger on the um… bad end. However, here's one I particularly recommend: Tokyo Godfathers (2003) – Unfortunately, a lot of the versions available use an older/outdated English translation, but Hana is very much canonically trans
ES ! holy shit. thank you, these are so gorgeous. i had been waiting for someone to drop a john waters and was disturbed, as the replies started petering out, that no one had mentioned one yet...
SO many of these are new to me, and a few are items that have been on my watch list forever. i will happily be linking back to your letterboxd when the post goes up. i know i can always count on you to be much more widely versed in the cultural canon than i am. it seems you're always one step ahead when i turn my head from one subject to another... these are magnificent. i cannot wait to get started and am so pleased to have this message. thank you my wonderful friend!!
