mia.
Her hand reached up to his chest for one drawn out moment hovering in what little space was left between the two of them before her hand reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear as if that had always been its intent. Like a phantom her presence was made known but not felt. He would have to think back to their once long nights to feel the heat of her touch on his skin.
“Is that so?” Though her timing to respond to his remark was languid, her words still tested Adam and his knowledge of her. Yes, she could have it all if she so desired but to capture Mia’s desire was a hard to do when everyone and everything were so fickle.
Her eyes danced with amusement as Adam spoke of Eric in such a manner. To add onto his analogy of the man she had brought with her tonight, Eric was well trained. He knew what part he played in her life and did not try to change his role. Neither mutually exclusive with the other they were business associates first, confidants next and a warm body when required. Adam was no longer privy to anything personal in her life so her lips remained closed in a smirk.
Adam wore his jealousy well but his jealousy wore him better and more pronounced than he may have intended. ‘Why have you been here with me if it is someone else you are looking for?’ She wanted to ask him but instead she simply said while her eyes locked with his’, “Don’t keep that someone waiting.”
His true parting words intrigued her though she would not show it. Not now when so many eyes lingered. Maybe some vices were meant to be played with. Though how they were played with was yet to be determined. Should Adam have taken one last glance at her he’d have found her crimson lips in a smirk before she too turned her back onto him and once more continued to socialize with those in attendance.

Sofia probably made a bad decision, not asking someone ahead of time for help. But she also didn’t think she’d like the store. Or buy almost every fabric they had. So now she had quite a few rolls of fabric, and her arms and legs weren’t prepared to do it alone. The moving part. She also picked a store that didn’t have a delivery service. And she didn’t want to ask for help from the family’s men, because her brothers told her it wasn’t their job and she’s distracting them. So she left her purchase at the store and went to find someone who could help her, good thing she saw someone by the store, someone she knew, she didn’t care if she’d make a fool of herself, she needed their help. Softly she grabbed their arm, smiling pleadingly and hoping for the best. “My god, you don’t even know how much I need you right now! You aren’t busy by any chance, right?”
@parabellum-starters
Having gone for a run, Adam was focusing on his cool-down when he heard a female’s voice calling him over. “Sofia?” Using the back of his hand, he ran it across his forehead, wiping away some of the sweat that had built up there. “You alright?” Slowing his pace, he jogged over to the woman before pausing in front of her. She didn’t look distressed though she clearly needed help. “Of course, what can I do?” Glancing around, he made sure just one last time that she wasn’t being followed or there wasn’t something around them that he needed to be aware of before allowing his guard to drop just a bit.

Ezra flashed the other man a smile. ( This would be fun ). Ezra was entertained by the fact that the other wasn’t aware of his social standing. Could he possibly be rolling with one of Sinclair’s motley crew have them none the wiser? The stratification that maybe being true brought him, was enough to turn his attention to the bar.
“Follow me,” he said, heading over. It was unusually sparse, but he wasn’t about to complain about the clear gift that was. “What’s your poison?” he asked the other, ordering himself a dry gin with no ice. “First rule; being super was is a no-no.” Well at least after the first hour that is - there was the perfect sweet spot of being tipsy-ish without being drunk. It usually loosened himself up and allowed him to get on better with potential clients.
Adam was many things, in fact, the list itself had grown longer in the past few years than ever before. However, the one thing he had purposely made sure he wasn't, was an alcoholic. It was something he was sure he could link back to his father, and all the damage done there. But he rarely admitted it aloud, particularly with strangers. “Club soda.” He returns, raising a brow towards Ezra. “I know, I know, but I don’t drink.”
It was probably unexpected, especially given the setting. But it is what it is, as Adam accepted his drink from the bartender and clinked it against the others. “I’m failing this test already, aren’t I?” There was a chuckle then, as he offered Ezra was infamously charming half grins. “Swear I’m not a complete bore.”
Can you see it? Is it beautiful?
felicity.
There was urgency in his tone, something that alerted her - but, it was not awfully hard to alert here these days. Since Paityn’s disappearance, she had been in a constant state of paranoia, always looking over her shoulder, always anticipating another blow, another hit - another tragedy. She had come to this gala as a support to her family, but also as something of their guard dog, eyes assessing, browsing the crowd, making sure that all of Sinclairs in attendance have been accounted for ( she had also made it her task to make sure there aren’t any suspicious movements around them - too fast; her mind was rushing and spinning too fast, never relenting, never giving her a moment to just… relax. breathe. ). Felicity eyed the balcony as Adam spoke, finding it vacant at the moment - so, yes. It seemed like a decent, private enough place to go, to catch a respite. “Alright. Lead the way.” She relented after a short moment, a soft sigh falling from her lips; to be fair, she was a smidgen soothed by the familiarity of his hand against her back.
It was not that she did not trust him ( she trusted him better than anyone else outside of her immediate family ), but casting another glance at her family, scattered about the place, she felt… restless and anxious in leaving them, in letting them out of her sight even for a moment ( she had let Pai out of her sight for a minute, and look what had happened. she was gone, and a large part of Felicity blamed herself for not being alert enough ). But, she relented with another sigh, fixing her stare at Adam. “You know I trust you. It is them I do not trust.” Her attention was diverted back to the Sinclairs, and seeing that they were all safe for the time being, spoke; “Lets go. Though, I will have to be back inside soon. I am not too comfortable letting the family out of my sight for too long.”
For someone so youthful, Felicity had always held an air of sophistication about her. As if she had seen more of the world than someone her age ever should, and Adam wouldn’t have doubted it. “Thank you.” Pushing past a few people, he led them towards the balcony where the cool air welcomed them and the promise of a private moment was granted.
“Paityn’s here.” There was no point in beating around the bush if anything, the male knew it was better to directly speak his statement and allow her a moment to process it. Though his hands did find her shoulders, bracing her in place so she couldn’t simply escape back into the party. “I saw her with my own eyes, and we spoke.” Pause. “She seems okay.” Okay was a flexible term he could use loosely though Adam decided it worked well enough for the situation. “But before you go back in there, I wanted you to have a chance to compose yourself--without anyone watching.” Whoever had taken Paityn must be at this party, Adam would bet money on it. Thus, they'd know she would’ve been returned, and they’d be looking for reactions. “You can’t cause a scene, that’s what they’ll want.” He met Felicity’s gaze, leaning down just a bit as his hands squeezed her shoulders. “Ci, do you understand me?” If it had been anyone else, he would’ve simply gone to Jack. But he still cared for the woman before him, and he selfishly couldn’t let her walk into this without some knowledge.
mia.
Close proximity did nothing to stop old memories long suppressed from researching. Once she reached her arms around him when they were this close to whisper it was time to go before he left her crimson mark on him with a single kiss. Though feelings of a time defined by her wild antics ran circles in the pit of her stomach she would not show that some fondness might be beneath the surface. Years of pushing and pulling herself forward prevented her from turning back even for a single moment.
The road to where she was now was not without its bumps and cracks. Should she choose to she could easily fall back into one of her bad habits. He had been one. But he hadn’t always been considered bad. She took a step back to put more space and air between the two of them. He still like burning leaves an aroma she still could not recall as to why out of all the scents she associate that one with him. Both acrid and sweet, the smoke given off by the leaves had an incredibly rich smell which evokes for her other times and other places, people, seasons, short days, crisp nights, bare trees, incipient winter. His scent brought back too much.
A cat like grin hide well any thought of him she had as she took in the sight of him. Mia would have to give it to Adam, he cleaned up well. He looked good. Different yet the same as the last time she saw him. “I have always been full of surprises.” Small talk seemed out of place though it was what these gatherings were known for. Not even she could bring herself to ask how he was enjoying the night or what he had been up to. She didn’t want to know. She shouldn’t.
Instead she inched closer to a line that she had more than just a hand in creating to see what would happen. To be named a calculated or ill planned offensive was still waiting to be determined. “Or have you already forgotten?” Now would be the time to turn on her heel and walk away and once more put him in the rearview mirror but her feet remained glued to their spot. Whatever game they were playing wasn’t over quite yet.
“What’s your poison for the evening? A designer purse, an all inclusive stay at El Palacio – Guadalajara, a luxury vehicle or the females vying for the men’s attention?”
It was intoxicating, just her presence, and Adam felt himself blundering into it. As if it was entirely unavoidable, he was helping close the distance, just one small step, and abruptly the two were much closer than he’d ever anticipated they would be again. “Come on, you know me better than that.” Knew, he should’ve spoken with past tense and yet he made no attempt at modifying his choice of words.
“But you, on the other hand, I’m guessing it’s a mix of it all.” Mia had never been one to pick and choose between things, instead, she had always recognized that she could have them all if she so desired it. Perhaps it was her surname or the money that left a trail behind it. But she had never been limited, notably when she wanted something.
“Though I’m surprised your dog isn’t trailing far behind.”
Ah, yes--Erick was his name, wasn’t it? Adam had seen them together in the papers, continually looking their most becoming for the publicity. And the media loved it, soaking up and buying into every little tidbit of Mia and her counterpart. Though Adam knew better, fully aware that nothing would really be going on there except for bringing along someone who was good for business. “Either way, I’ve got to get going, I’m looking for someone.” Purposely he didn’t offer names, though his gaze lifted to glance around the room just once before returning to the woman in front of him. “Enjoy your evening,” His words hung for a moment, suspended in time as he decided upon his parting words before ultimately just uttering them.
“You’re the most beautiful woman in this room; let me know when you get tired of playing fetch.” With that he was gone, disappearing into the crowds as he looked for Felicity to reveal to her what he’d seen just moments before when Paityn had appeared though his mind hung back with the brunette in red.

Ezra laughed, “well it’s either who wore what, or what the grandkids are up to.” He agreed the conversation was mind-numbingly, if he didn’t need these people to like him he’d have told them all that to their faces - but alas: he had to play nice. “You get used to it man, I’ve been attending these things since I was out of diapers, you learn to nod and smile at the right moments, as well as make your own fun.”
The dark-haired man had the striking suspicion that was talking to the only individual at this gig who didn’t know who he was. Uh, this could be fun ( hey at least he hadn’t already made up his mind to either hate him or suck up to him. ) “Stick with me and you’ll be just fine.”
In truth, Adam couldn’t imagine allowing this to become a regular occurrence. Considering he was now questioning just how long he had to stay before he could make his grand escape. But at least the quality of the company had gone up. “Guess it just has never been my style.” And nevermore would be, though he had always been good at bluffing his way through life.
“Well Ezra, I’ve never been one to turn down an evening full of promise.” Maybe his boss would appreciate the effort in his attempts at socializing. Either way, if he was stuck here, he might as well make an attempt at enjoying himself. “Point me in the direction.”
felicity.
“Well, I didn’t expect to see you here, either, if I’m completely honest.” She also didn’t expect she would still be at the party in this hour, but alas, appearances had to be kept. Her eyebrow arched at the compliment, the only reply to his words coming out in a soft hum. “You got that right. It’s been a dreadfully long evening, and I have a feeling it’s barely begun.” It was too calm, to quiet - people got along too well. Something was bound to go south, sooner rather than later. Somehow, she would rather not be around when it happens. Fel found herself slightly tensing up, but it wasn’t directed against Adam - she was always tense these days. “Where do you want to go?” She asked.
Of course, she didn’t, after all, parties had never been Adam’s thing. Even as he climbed the social hierarchy, inching his way closer to the top, craving that resolution, he had never entirely matched in with the crowds that ran it. Perhaps it was the expensive suits and willingness to gift a grand at the drop of a hat just because one could, but something unsettled him. As if he’d never surely make it due to the mere fact that he conceded to just how quickly it could all run out. Because unlike many of the welcomed guests here tonight, Adam had encountered poverty and it wasn’t a position he yearned to undergo again. “Just the balcony, come on.” The male’s tone had softened, arriving somewhere between gentle and urging as he met the younger woman’s gaze. It was a timbre he had customarily reserved for late nights when his guard had slipped just a little too far. Not for public ventures, but this was significant, and he likely cared a little too much about Felicity to enable her to find out from less understanding individuals.
Slipping his hand to her lower back, he touched lightly, knowing she’d recognize the expression on his features. “Please.” Adam had always been a solemn man, so much so that many declared him to be monotonous. But for those who knew him better, they could acknowledge that there was just a series of walls before one encountered anything less calculated. Luckily, Felicity had been one of those few not too long ago. “Trust me.” The words were whispered, intended for only them to hear as he pressed at her back once more, fingers ghosting over an expanse of flesh he still had memorized.
chanel.
“No, no. This is definitely helpful enough.” She enthused, allowing him to take both the purse and drink. Now having both hands available, the screen of her phone became glued to her face as she perused the email that had given her panic. It had been from a friend of hers that worked for a newspaper and had been about a scoop they thought might need crushing. The scoop, thankfully, happened to be old news though and Chanel could breath easily once again. She typed out a quick response to the sender to let them know the story was a dud and thanks for the heads up before returning her attention to the man who still stood there waiting.
“I’m so sorry about that.” Holding her phone up as if it were the culprit of her rudeness. “Work is never really over.” Taking the purse from him, she slipped her phone back into it before taking the glass from his other grasp. “Thanks for that, it was very appreciated. Anyway I could repay you for the helpful hand?”
Whoever she was, she seemed rather determined with her digits pressed up against her keyboard typing aggressively. Leaving Adam to silently stand with both purse and glasses in hand. How funny he must’ve looked to anyone who knew him, considering he’d never held a woman’s purse before that very moment. It wasn’t until she apologized that his attention was drawn back and he offered her an apologetic look. “It happens,” Adam assures the blonde, taking her in for the first time since they’d met. “--and I understand. The best jobs never really quit.”
Allowing her to take back her things, he waited till she was sure she had everything properly in hand before replying to her suggestion. “I was told I needed to dance at least once during this evening, otherwise my boss was gonna have it in for me on Monday.” Somewhat true, but he had been told he needed to make an effort to fit in, and actually involve himself in the party. And since he didn’t drink, it seemed the next best thing was endeavoring to dance. “If you’re up for it?” When he had been younger, his mother had actually been the one to teach him to dance. Though he’d never told anyone before, their late nights in the living room listening to his father’s records were some of the only good memories he had of his parents. “I’m Adam by the way.”
thalia.
There was something about Adam, surely the admission that he felt as out of place as she, that put her at ease. That was until he commented on the necklace. Suddenly, her fingers dropped, almost as if she had touched fire. Might has been too. For all she knew, Adam could have been the one pulling the trigger on Daniel. Shaking the thought out of her mind, for the moment, Thalia took the man’s arm. “Other than the fact that I’d be happier somewhere more low key, good. What about you? You must be used to these by now.”
His compliment was left flattened, but Adam didn’t take public notice. Instead, he only nodded to the woman, accepting her question as he directed them towards the bar. “Usually I’m working these things, thus it’s actually my first time on the other side.” He offers, hoping it might bring a bit more comfort to Thalia. Considering they were both threading unknown waters it seemed. “Funny how you can hear about these events all your life, and when you finally make it, it never seems to live up to the expectation huh?”
