I milled the base of my model.
A small animation depicting my Card model & milled site model together. Creating this model taught me I would have to dig into the landscape to support my large structure.
On Thursday we had our final review; we did A ten-minute powerpoint and displayed our work. After feedback from tutors & guest lectures, I will reinvent my structures form and attempt to bring better use of shadows into my design.
Two images of the darkened environment my gabble roofed structure creates. This show that on even a bright day, the light within the structure is limited. I am now looking to Add a more interesting use of shadows and light into my structure [Model 1:50]
I developed my concept into 3 sections demonstrating cause and effect of Shipwrecks. The first two sections (Cause) incorporate the rugged rocks & weather conditions that bring so many ships to there grave.
The last space (Effect) will be a memorial room, listing the shipwrecks that have happened across the Cornish Coast. This will be built of Corten steel building upon the feeling of a shipwreck.
This is a demonstration of one of my early concept models, put into context of the site. I chose this form as It allowed me to build upwards to incorporate multiple viewpoints of the surrounding landscape.
On Saturday, I revisited the site to recapture images the site and see if I could learn anything new. This visit reminded me that the site is unreliable for good weather conditions, meaning I cannot rely on natural lighting and will have to provide an enclosed space for visitors to escape rough weather.
I have split my Memorial into three sections. Two rooms will demonstrate the cause of shipwrecks (Rocks & weather conditions) and the final room shall show the effect. The first room, depicted above will be a room filled with Mylor Slate blocks of varying heights, reminiscent to The Giants Causeway.

This is my milled foam model I created in order to begin depicting my structure in context of the site. I will begin to scale up my models, in order to gain better understanding of how it works internally.
These are a couple of images showing my abandoned attempt at a site model. while the cardboard style correctly matched what I was trying to achieve, the contours weren't accurate enough to continue spending time on.
These are some of my conceptual models looking at repetitive forms, inspired by boats. I wanted something that would either sit on the path, redefining the original curved route or something that worked with the path, allowing visitors to continue the normal route to Potheras Cove.
I have chosen to locate my structure along the winding path leading to Potheras cove. This spot allows a safe distance from the cliff edge, while still having impressive views of the sea and Potheras cove.
ARC310 - My recent studies have brought me towards memorial Architecture. This image is of David Adjaye’s proposed London Holocaust Museum.
Adjaye ideas towards memory through architecture gave me strong insight into how projects relating to memory should be approached.
He explains that through Architecture we can begin to talk not only about a story but about “memory and emotion”.
ARC310 - During our second visit to the site, I identified my proposed site, which is Portheras cove. Considerations will be made for the paths width and safety precautions for the cliff edge.
ARC310 - During The first week of study, we explored our site to help with our understanding of the areas rich mining history. This image is of Botallack, located along an area of the Tin Coast.
This is my first sections for ARC220. This shows my basic understanding of my structure during the early stages of design. The main focus is on how I want my underfloor heating to increase the tempreature of both floors of my corridor.
