hi i’m slowly coming back here bc i miss nerd teacher man so. you should plot w me and/or send me stuff.
Just cuz it didn’t win, doesn’t mean I’m not gonna draw my entry cosmetic anymore…as I kinda love it. Also Adam needs better/more casual outfits.

ghostface
𝐀 𝐂𝐇𝐔𝐂𝐊𝐋𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐊𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐇𝐈𝐌. the knife in his grasp is gestured to with his free hand, the leather tip of his index finger carefully resting on its sharpened edge. both hands are steady. “ no, ” ghostface replies firmly. it’s far safer to assume nothing about a man with blood on his hands. to assume means to have time, something a serial killer is keen to cut short. but he understands. in this place, a subtle difference to the norm draws one in like the parched to water.
this endless loop must be insufferable for those gaining nothing from it. after all, danny recalls the times he’d avoided that which didn’t benefit him in some way. 𝙼𝙰𝙽𝙺𝙸𝙽𝙳 𝙸𝚂 𝚂𝙴𝙻𝙵𝙸𝚂𝙷, tenfold when survival is the main objective. he should know - he’s witnessed it time and time again, both here and before the entity collected him. “ with this, I can have peace and quiet whenever I want it. ”
the weapon is sheathed at his thigh; an act of muscle memory for neither his gaze nor mask shifts from the figure in front of him. 𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐀 𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐄. not because of the rules that stand outside of trials, but because ghost face’s reasons for taking a life are wholly personal. “ trouble in paradise ? ” finally, the mask tilts.
“ it must be exhausting, 𝚙𝚛𝚎𝚝𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐 to enjoy the company of others. ” mask turns as though he’s looking off in the distance but his peripheral focuses intently on adam. 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭 ? to get under this one’s skin ? “ especially when they don’t all pull their weight. especially when you’re better than them. ”
“i hope you don’t think i’m that shallow,” adam comments mildly. his eyes leave the knife, return to ghostface. of the killers, ghostface seems more human somehow: perhaps it’s the mind games he seems to enjoy during trial. human in all of its worst ways, if that. manipulative, violent, and cruel. he can think of a few psychology professors who’d have a field day with him, if they survived it. he thinks of saying more: that despite her lack of traditional schooling, yui kimura has a wisdom that belies her years and has been helping adam with his japanese between trials, for instance. but it’s probably wisest to tell the killer as little as possible, should it be used against him.
perhaps this in itself has some endgame -- is not a random act, but a show, something to end with adam’s innermost organs on display. he swallows --it’s an unpleasant thought, especially with him seated and ghostface towering over him. looming, perhaps, is a more appropriate word, corrects the english teacher internally.
he smiles politely, but it (understandably) doesn’t reach his eyes. “the exhausting part is usually the running.”
thinking abt her (rin yamaoka)
egotistikill:
𝐈𝐓 𝐈𝐒𝐍’𝐓 𝐔𝐍𝐔𝐒𝐔𝐀𝐋 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐆𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐍𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐆. travelling from place to place, exploring the different realms on his own terms. but he searches with purpose, this time. having visited the survivor’s campfire, he’d noticed one of them to be missing. some were arriving from their latest trial, others taken for the next. one adam francis never made an appearance, prompting danny to go looking. it was never wise to wander alone. especially not when killers were stalking within the shadows.
eventually, he finds adam resting among a clearing. 𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐄 ? sick of the other survivors, perhaps ? whatever happened to sticking together ? danny finds his curiosity piqued. deja vu - how he misses the psychological effort that used to be involved with maintaining the ghostface persona. the aliases, the manipulation, the weeks of stalking and slow, gradual assassination of sense of self. luring his victims to the verge of insanity. 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐔𝐈𝐋𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓.
he would never take his current circumstance for granted, but he misses hiding in plain sight. misses the recognition and attention. 𝙷𝙰𝚅𝙴 𝙸 𝙶𝚁𝙾𝚆𝙽 𝚁𝚄𝚂𝚃𝚈 ? he wonders. danny notices adam is growing more nervous, likely sensing his lingering presence but instead of allowing himself to be spotted he makes his presence known by stepping into view, the glint of his knife catching the light. 𝙺𝙴𝙴𝙿𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙲𝙾𝙽𝚃𝚁𝙾𝙻 𝙰𝚃 𝙰𝙻𝙻 𝚃𝙸𝙼𝙴𝚂.
“ I thought misery loved company. why are you not mingling with the others ? you’d certainly be safer. ”
plotted starter / @adamfrncis
what an entrance. adam hasn’t been here as long as the others, but from what he’s seen in trials, the killer calling himself ghostface seems to have a flair for the dramatic.
he should bolt -- see if he could make it back to the safety of the campfire before that glinting, wicked knife had other ideas. but maybe it’s the fatigue of too many trials or the fact that ghostface had offered some kind of conversation starter. maybe it’s just that it’s quiet here, and adam misses the quiet. he’d been trying to remember the opening of albert camus’ the stranger: both because the fog had a distressing lack of literature, and to comfort himself with some aspect of the books he’d made his home among.
he doesn’t know where to look -- not at the knife, surely. but the absence of human emotion on the ghostface mask, the vague blackness of the eyeholes, are just as unsettling.
“misery needed some peace and quiet,” he replies after a pause. he notes, as before, that ghostface has an american accent, and maybe adam is wondering where he came from, what kind of circumstances could ever lead anyone to this. “am i to assume that’s why you’re here as well?”

@frfld said: 3, 4, 18 for the character development questions
3: Does your character have an accent? What does it sound like?
Adam does have a slight Jamaican accent when he is speaking English or Japanese. While it is more prominent when he is speaking Japanese, because he learns this language in his adulthood but was taught English as a second language in grade school, you can definitely detect a Jamaican accent when he speaks. He’s not embarrassed about it, though.
4: Do they have any verbal tics? Do they have trouble pronouncing certain words or getting their thoughts across clearly?
Difficulty pronouncing certain words: in Japanese: absolutely. As mentioned above, he’s had much more time and practice with English. He gesticulates with his hands often when he talks, as if he’s trying to make the idea visual, something he probably picked up from the classroom.
18: Are they a leader, do they prefer to follow, or would they rather just stay on the sidelines altogether?
He’s definitely prepared to lead, given that the nature of his job involves herding high school kids and teaching them English. However, Adam is comfortable following as well. He pretty much tries to ascertain where he’s needed and then start there. What he doesn’t like is staying on the sidelines when he could be helping.
adam can and should rail ur muse
if it was sinday i would say let adam stroke ur hair and say nice things to you but it’s not so i cannot.

❝ i-i suppose so . ❞ poor shy girl , it’s what many people thought when they saw her . she shied away from social interaction so easily it was almost like she didn’t exist in the first place . but the botanist couldn’t help be seen when others were finally talking to her , engaging her in conversation she half wanted and half despised . either way , the comment seems to soften her fears and wash her over in a warm light . she liked a good book ❴ … ❵ she liked the warmth of a good story .
❝ m-maybe a c-cup o-of t-tea a-as well . ❞ she hums under her breath , fingers drumming against high cheekbones . her slowly emerging smile is soft , dimmed like the sun behind winter clouds . but still , claudette tries to engage . she’s not good at it , but she’s trying . she wants to make new friends , after all . ❝ m-my dog and my cat used to l-love to l-lay around w-with me w-when i-i got the big blanket o-out and my books . ❞
her smile feels like an encouragement, tentative as it is, so adam continues. he hopes he’s not overstepping: so many different people, different personalities. there’s a stress to it that has nothing to do with the possibility of being thrown into a trial. ❝ a dog and a cat? do they get along? ❞ adam’s never been much of a pet person: as much as he’d begged for a puppy as a child, his uncle had never allowed pets, and he’d had enough on his plate after moving to kagoshima without adding some poor animal into the mix.
❝ if you don’t mind my asking, what do you like to read? ❞ he is stubborn in the use of present-tense verbs, certain (outwardly, at least) that this -- fog, entity, trials -- are only a blip in his timeline, not a permanent state. because if he doesn’t believe that he’ll see his family again, his students, the warmth of home or the cold rain he’d just been getting adjusted to in kagoshima.
@skyaches said: David approaches Adam, medkit in hand. They had just barely managed to get out of the last trial together and both had yet to fix their injuries since. He sits next to him and opens the container. " Nice moves, Francis. Coulda used you a time or two on the rugby field."
thickly-lashed brown eyes flick up to meet the other’s, full of pleased surprise. adam’s voice is low but genuine when he replies. “thank you, david.”
he hadn’t expected to make it out of that trial, but they’d worked well together, adam with his distractions and david with his bravery. still, the regret that adam couldn’t save everyone is something he nurses closely. “i didn’t know you played rugby,” he’s always cautious when speaking about other survivors’ pasts, as he knows some of them are sore subjects. (he’d found out the hard way.) taking a bandage from the kit, he winds it around the broken skin on his own arm, pulls it tight. he’s had no medical training, but repetition alone has made him an expert. “i doubt that, somehow. i was a bit of a nerd in my university days.” the memory does make him smile faintly: easier times.
gesturing to the medkit and the man’s own wounds, “do you want any help with that?”
