The Sonnets poems by Sandra Simonds from Bloof Books

I love the poems of Sandra Simonds (like, here's one from Everyday Genius), and so can you. This is a great book. I tore through it. Am tearing through it. That's not a nice way to put it. I love these poems. I love the way they combine ordinary moments but make them strange with language.

Wastoid poems by Mathias Svalina from Big Lucks Books

I just got this beauty in the mail. It's poems. It's sonnets, even. But they are in paragraphs. The book is called Wastoid and every poem in there is also called Wastoid. Guess they didn't want to wastoid any time doing up new titles. (The acknowledgments notes that the title was inspired by a metal band from Lincoln, NE, named Wasteoid.)

This is a pretty hefty book, at 154 pages. Sara Woods made the cover. It's beautiful. 

Most of the poems begin "My lover is" something.

Be Humble and Focus on the Work

Chris Toll emailed me after he read with what he called professors. He was frustrated.

memo to the universe: poems are NOT words and line breaks. their poems were “about” lightning - if i may toot my own horn for a moment, my poems “are” lightning. i can say no more! when you’re a writer, it is good to be humble and focus on the work.

'The Truth About Facts' by Adam Robinson

If you are listening to this, something has gone terribly wrong. The dog is barking at the vacuum. The milk has gone off with the car alarm in the street. I have 36 emails to reply to but I’m only barking at the void. Bacon costs like six dollars, and it still seems like reality TV is actually going to be a thing. Soon the black flies will be back. They’ll cover the window. Is there a moral explanation for my great incapacity to feel even worse?

Amy and I went to Spring Training for spring break. Yesterday we were in Sarasota to see the Orioles lose to the Phillies (interleague play, even before the season starts, still bores me). It wasn't a great game, and it rained. Ubaldo Jiminez was unimpressive through 2 innings. 

Today we went to Jupiter to see the Braves, who got trounced by the Cardinals. Cards starter Lance Lynn struck out 10 through 4 innings.

The Harbour Beyond the Movies by Luke Kennard from Salt Publishing

My brother got me this book for Christmas, off my Amazon wish list. I didn't even know I had one of those. But when I opened this present at Christmastime I was surprised that he'd gotten me such a deep-cut poetry book, something from 2007. That's when he explained the wish list. 

I put it on the wish list because Mairéad Byrne had Luke Kennard blurb her book, The Best of (What's Left of) Heaven, so I wanted to see what his stuff is like.

I like it a lot, of what I've read so far, which is a couple poems. Thanks bro!

This is awesome. The font Juliet Escoria uses for the title "Hell William" in this gif is one I experimented with when putting the cover together. She does it better. I can't wait till book covers are actually gifs.
