@adanimi as dana said: ❛ can you promise you'll text when you get home? ❜ * ― 𝑭𝑳𝑼𝑭𝑭𝒀 𝑪𝑨𝑵 𝑺𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑵𝑪𝑬 𝑺𝑻𝑨𝑹𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑺.
" yeah. " her hoodie shields her name badge from view, locker screwed closed & bag slung over her shoulder. it's too warm outside to wear it, but it's the one thing separating the scrubs from her shift, so she keeps it slouched across her shoulders. when cassie nods, the frazzled hairs flicked free of her braid dust against her cheeks. a small smile darkens a dimple there, too.
" i can do that. "
car keys clutched teeth first in her fist, she starts on her way out before hesitating. " wanna walk out with me? "
Dana has her hand pressed to the locker next to Cassie's as she leans into it, but slowly, she straightens up, and gives a small nod of her own in return. "Roads are bad tonight. I don't wanna be kept up worryin'."
She glances down at her watch, then pulls her wrist a little further back as she squints. "Well, I've got at least another hour or two before I can head out, but the walk'll do me good. Spent the past hour handling a battle between cardiology and pedes on who would take this poor kid after he's outta surgical recovery. Had me about ready to head up there myself to knock some sense into 'em, but..." She splays out her fingers, rubbing her hands together slowly, before holding them up as she ducks her head. "There is a God, because Wolke went to take him up, personally. No intervention needed."
Dana is already fishing in her pocket for her lighter and cigarettes as they begin walking, and her head tilts toward Cassie. "You got any big plans this weekend? Hot date? Or somethin' with Harrison maybe?"
Constantly spinning between "Dennis' brothers were bad influences and he started smoking cigarettes way too young" and "Dennis went to one DARE presentation in 6th grade and became scared of tobacco"

MEME
{ ♪ } -- It seemed everything in this house knew she didn't sleep well in the slightest. Then again, the dateviators offering her views of the various friends from her household objects made it easier to a degree. Knowing she was surrounded with people who cared about her at all times eased her mind enough to let her at least doze most nights.
Today, though, she was sitting with Koa and Tony watching Telly play whatever weirdness they could find. The warmth between them plus the laughter quickly had her dozing, head eventually falling onto Tony's shoulder. It wasn't long until she was fully asleep. Breathing even, eyes closed, weight falling squarely onto Tony.
Bella didn't even stir as she was shifted into his arms. A faint little snore was coming from her mouth as she found her head against his chest, still with no sign of waking. She was lifted, carried upstairs, and even settled into bed without so much as a twitch. When Tony tried to leave, though, she gave a little whine and her hand moved as if searching for him.
He wasn't one to usually watch Telly, mainly because before Bella got her fancy glasses, he was usually kept in the closet unless somethin' needed fixin'. But, now, he could move around as he pleased, and that meant a lot of time spent with her... and with Telly. And Mac.
Tony had gotten increasingly fond of watching home renovation shows, mostly to critique them and their lack of panache. Which was what they were doing now, Tony watching them replace flooring with the intensity and focus of a sports fanatic watching the big game. By the time he looked back to Bella, he realized he had been a little too focused, and she had dozed off sometime ago.
"Alright, babe." He whispers, carefully scooping her up in his arms, and carrying her up to the bedroom. He softly thanks Dorian for opening up so he didn't have to maneuver by himself, then carefully sets her in bed, and pulls the blanket over her.
He's about to leave when she reaches out, and he can't help but relent, apologizing to Betty as he climbs into the bed, and wraps an arm around Bella.
"I'm here, I gotcha, babe." Tony whispers, leaning in to press a kiss to her forehead. "Go back to sleep."
i got my drafts below 30 last night can i hear a wahoo.
@adanimi asked: someone's jumpy today. are you feeling okay? / hear me out, park for daisy. their friendship would be funny (it'd piss emery off)
Daisy likes talking to basically everyone Emery works with. She knew how important these relationships are to foster. So she knew everyone's name and their backstory. That was just her default though sometimes it surprised her when people did it back. So the question catches her off guard. She had been trying to straighten the desserts she had brought. Jumpy and stress baking two signs she was a mess.
"Oh you know... the usual." She reaches a hand up to brush hair out of her face. There are a few beats of silence before she shifts her position. She really does like Park, trusts him and enjoys his company. After a small sigh she decides to say something. "My father is in town but he loves to drag me down when he's here. So I lied and said I'm out of town. I know he's not just gonna show up at this random park we're holding some staff picnic at. Logically it maeks swense but I don't know something about him being around... suddenly I'm 12 and getting in trouble. It's stupid. I need to calm down."
Brendon's head tilts as he stares at her. His gaze is as intense as ever, and he stays absolutely silent as she speaks. It's not until complete silence fills the air that he gives a small shrug.
"You hold no obligation to him." He states, plainly, "Familial ties or not. There is no contract that binds you to him. If you don't want to see him, you should tell him as much."
He grabs a brownie from the plates she's laying out and takes a bite. He pauses his thoughts long enough to chew and swallow before continuing on, "There's no reason why you should have to pretend you're not here. Not for his sake, at least."
He eats the rest of his brownie, then wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. "These are good." Brendon gives a thumbs up before picking up his coffee, and taking a long sip. "You have any of them yet?"
One of the many reasons he liked Duke. The man didn't sugarcoat, but he also wasn't cruel about it. He just knew these vehicles, knew how to fix them, in the way that Robby had just absorbed how to fix humans over all of his time in the medical field. He had a nice, calm manner about him, and sure, he smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish, but he was just a rough edged guy with a good heart. He let his hands be adjusted without complaint. Maybe it was good for him, being a student again, being unsure of himself. To put himself back in the shoes of the people he spent his days training. He waited until the other man was settled, then resumed what he was doing, and it did feel better. More natural, easier, the mechanics working as they should. "You're not that much older than me, Duke," he laughed, shaking his head slightly. "Yeah. Thanks, man."
"Don't be a kiss-ass." Duke laughs, extending an arm, and letting Squid hop off him. He places his hands on his knees and stands with a groan, then steps away from the bike.
Leaning against the work bench, Duke pulls a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, and presses a cigarette between his lips.
"I'm 72 this year." He explains, ducking his head to light his cigarette. "That's plenty older than you."
Duke tilts his head back, and takes a long drag, then pulls the cigarette from his lips, and blows out a long stream of smoke before speaking again, "Ol' Bonnie should be up and runnin' again by t'morrow. You wanna finish that up and call it for the night? I got some beers in the fridge and about three dozen takeout menus to pick from. I'm fine with whatever, long as we can watch antiques roadshow"

i gave jack's sister a dead husband because i think the two of them being widowed but fully incapable of seeing each other through their own grief thus severing their relationships to each other and furthering said grief. idk. compelling to me.
@adanimi asked:
❛ it's hard to see the stars in the city. ❜ / fromm talia?
"Miss tha' stars." He admitted after a beat of silence, looking up at the towering skyscrapers from their spot on the rooftop. It wasn't often he looked up anymore. Between the heroes and rogues flying about, there wasn't much he looked forward to looking up. The sky was always dull and cloudy, and at night you couldn't see anything but the smog.
"What'chu doin' roun' these parts?"
"Back at home, the stars are beautiful. On a clear night, you can see Perseus and Andromeda with the naked eye, though they almost get lost among the sea of stars. Here, you are lucky if you can find one that's not actually a plane taking off from Newark..."
Talia considers the question, but her eyes don't leave the sky, despite there not being much to look at up there.
"I thought I might visit my son. He lives in this city, with his father. He is doing very good things. Very noble things, things I..." She opens her mouth, then closes it, and lets the sentence hang in the air for several moments before finally speaking again.
"Things I could not provide for him. I thought a visit might be nice, though, for both of us. But now that I am here..." She finally looks toward Waylon, then shrugs.
"I fear my presence may give him grief. Is it a selfish thing, to wish to see him, after all this time? Or is it more selfish if I stay away? I find myself overthinking it, suppose I just need to work up the nerve."
