So because I have no life  and was curious I compared at the Detroit Lions win/loss records from 1980, the first memories I have of the team, to 2000 to the Millen/Mayhew era. During both time periods the Lions had a sub .500 winning percentage. 1980-2000 the team is just under .500 at .454. The Millen/Mayhew era, no surprise, is worse a .317 winning percentage.

Compared to 2013, 2014 is a down year for the U.S. box office. Besides Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the Summer was filled with underperforming films.

Detroit Blight

The Detroit Blight Task Force set out to document all the properties in Detroit's 139 square miles. What they found is that 1 in 3 residential and commercial lots is blighted. They task force produced a map of Detroit's blighted areas. I took the map and with a little patience, coding and tiling software I overlaid it onto a Google map.

Sorry Charlie

The Detroit Pistons signed forward Charlie Villanueva to a five-year $37.7 million dollar contract in 2009. To say his time with the Pistons has been a disappointment is an understatement. Villanueva never found his footing with the team, partly due to his play, but in fairness the revolving door of coaches, players and offensive schemes during his tenure didn't help. This past season, the last in his five-year pact with Detroit, Villanueva only played 20 games but he was paid $8.5 million dollars. In a completely unfair comparison, this is how he stacked up to LeBron James.

The City of Detroit lost a titan of industry Sunday morning when William Clay Ford passed away at the age of 88. Mr. Ford, the last surviving grandson of Henry Ford, was a driving force for Ford Motor company and the City of Detroit. He was also the owner of the Detroit Lions football team. He purchased the franchise 50 years ago and even though the team hasn't been flush with success, the value of the Lions has grown dramatically in the last five decades.
