âI would never hoover anywhere near my CDs Peej, Iâve always been Mr. Careful with my beautiful collection. And hey, donât forget my team and the entire school too. I couldnât even get the smell outta my bed sheets for like two months. Still 100% worth it.â
â Iâm pretty SURE you made at least HALF the team HATE you, and Bastian asked you to keep a TWO FEET distance when talking to him. Dad BOUGHT you the CD again for Christmas anyway, but Iâm GLAD you still think it was WORTH the hatred from literally EVERYONE you knew.â  Parker joked, not being able to RESIST a laugh as he talked.Â
â And HEY, now you can RELIVE the memory. Not that different from FISH, now, either.â
heroicbrcther:
âYou never said a word, I didnât even know that you liked the Smiths and the CD looked like a cat went and used it as a new toy when you gave it back! The fish was perfect payback.âÂ
â  No it did not look like a cat toy! It was perfectly fine, maybe you went over it with the hoover and scratched it all over! And besides, you did not punish only me with the fish, but dad and the entire family, too!â  The younger Jones brother said as he laughed -- Not even being able to sound serious anymore. He wished those times were still present.
heroicbrcther:
Davey laughed at the memory, shaking his head with a shit-eating grin. âDad had to throw out that tent after because we couldnât get the fish smell out. Yeah, I donât think thereâs anything worse than that. I was just getting my revenge because you stole my Smiths CD.â
â Well EXCUSE YOU, I did not STEAL them, it is not MY FAULT that you couldnât HEAR for the name of God and did not hear me asking to BORROW IT. â  That was a filthy LIE and both of them knew it - But there was SERIOUSNESS to Parkerâs tone - Almost like he could make someone BELIEVE that he was right in the argument.
â And itâs not like I didnât GIVE IT BACK. Itâs YOUR fault it didnât WORK anymore. It did when I used it.â
heroicbrcther:
He bit his lip, shaking his head slightly when PJ apologised. âItâs alright, Parker. Considering whatâs happened, I understand why youâre scared. I donât smell too good either so I can see why youâd keep your distance.â Davey tried to joke, forcing a small smile that only lasted a second.
â I wouldnât say Iâm SCARED. I wouldnât be scared of my BROTHER. It all just came really --- SUDDENLY. â  PJ replied, but soon a SNORT was added to his response. For Godâs sake.
â Oh, PLEASE. Youâve DEFINITELY smelled WORSE. Remember when we went camping with dad and Nate? And you DUMPED a whole bowl of RAW FISH on yourself? Couldnât take a bath? And I had to sleep WITH YOU? Thereâs NOTHING worse than that. HAUNTS me in my dreams.  â
heroicbrcther:
âYou are the coolest kid on the block, now that Iâm outta the scene.â He grinned, features soft. God had he missed Parker, so fucking much. A part of him wanted to reach out, to hug him, but he knew what happened last time. Having PJ flinch away from him⊠it hurt, a lot. He wasnât going to risk having that happen again. Let Parker decide when it was okay, when he trusted him again.
â Yeah. Guess there is ONE good thing in this whole situation, right? Now I get to be the COOL KID.â  The younger Jones said - Trying to LIGHTEN the mood as best as he could, a LAUGH semi-forced out of him. Silence. There was a part of him that wanted to get CLOSER to his brother - After all, he wasnât DANGEROUS, or anything, but it felt ... Wrong? How could it feel WRONG to hug your own brother? Guess just after last time.     â By the way -- Iâm sorry about last time. Really am.â
heroicbrcther:
âNah, Chainey isnât as into it as we are.â He laughed, âOh man, how could I forget? Whenever you had a bad day Iâd always cheer you up by calling you Suparker and taking you out for ice cream. Remember how Iâd lift you up sometimes and sing your little theme song?â
A smile finds itself on Parkerâs features - Nodding along with what his brother told. MEMORIES. Something he would NEVER forget. Their CHILDHOOD they spent together ---- EVERY memory he BOTTLED UP in his mind, SHUT in a box after hearing the news about Davey - Now all of them BREAKING to the surface. Donât get TOO emotional.
â Yeah. How could I FORGET that? I felt like the COOLEST kid on the block, back then. I mean, are you KIDDING me? I had my own theme song. I could be a MARVEL STAR.â
heroicbrcther:
âIâm glad my secretâs safe with you. Maybe you can help me figure out Chaineyâs sidekick name.âÂ
â Why didnât you ask HIM? ---- Most LOVE to come up with superhero names. Especially if itâs for themselves. Like, REMEMBER when I would have you, mom, and dad call me Suparker? --- That was definitely A TIME.â
heroicbrcther:
âYou say that like itâs a bad thing, Peej.â
â Itâs not a BAD thing, Davey, but itâs DIFFERENT than looking up at a big brother. --- Much different.â  A sigh. Itâs FINE. Lighten it with something.
â Now I can tell Micah Iâve MET Maggot Boy and heâs not some superhero jerk. Works GREAT.â
heroicbrcther:
He puts the hood back down and nods, âSee? I was doing stuff.âÂ
The surprises only kept COMING, first a STALKER, then his brother is ALIVE in some crazy way, then said brother is his SUPERHERO. Parker had no idea how many more is there to COME, but neither for how long he can TAKE IT.
â Yeah. Guess youâre RIGHT. Oh my GOD, I canât believe Iâve been a FAN over my own brother.â Â
heroicbrcther:
âThis hoodie look familiar?â He pulled up his hood, grinning at his brother. âIâm not that great at the whole secret identity thing.â
There is a moment of HESITATION --- Or SEVERAL and he is just staring at his brother --- Looking much like his NEW-FAVORITE hero of all time. Eyes WIDE, lips PARTED, Parker finally spoke up.
â You are KIDDING me. YOU are Maggot Boy?â Â
perfectmoronism:
ââ Listen here, PJ. It might not be important to you, but I want to know if she gets rescued. I wonât fail English class⊠. You will help me anyway, wonât you? ââ The other boy asked, hope hidden in his voice.
â OF COURSE, she will. It wouldnât be a SHITTY SERIES if she DIED, or just DISAPPEARED.â  Parker replied, a SIGH slipping past his lips this time. For godâs sake.
â Yeah. Yeah, I WILL, but you CANâT count on me always with tests.â
heroicbrcther:
âHe was the coolest. Super funny guy, oh so handsome under the hood.â He couldnât help but laugh, unable to keep up the act anymore. âAnd guess what? Youâre lookinâ at him.â
Parker LOVED listening to his brother talk about how MAGGOT BOY was in real life --- just as he IMAGINED him before this moment. Then the last sentence left Daveyâs mouth and he looked around CONFUSED, brows FURROWED.
â What do you mean? ---Canât see ANYONE besides you.â Â
heroicbrcther:
Davey had to resist the urge to laugh, not even hiding his smirk. âYou and your superheroes. Classic Peej, always the red costumes. What if I told you Iâve met the guy?âÂ
â Wait, you DID? ---- Thatâs --- AWESOME? What was he like? I mean --- Iâm sure he was SUPER COOL and everything, WHATEVER, just asking, YOU KNOW. ---â Â
heroicbrcther:
Howâs the afterlife? Davey considered the past few months and shook his head, resisting the urge to sigh. Honestly was always his best option with PJ, âNot-⊠not what youâd expect. Not great, really.âÂ
â Not any BETTER than life, huh? Shouldaâ guessed. I mean ---- Us... The living at least have a HERO I guess? Like --- Itâs COOL to have someone like in the movies ---- Except MAGGOT BOY. â  A pause. Is this even APPROPRIATE to talk about?
â Heâs been ALL OVER everything and I -- Have never MET him, but guess heâs too BUSY taking care of other business. ------ Itâs another of those SUPERHERO ADORING moments of mine, you know? Donât judge me.â  He added - The last sentence with a giggle.
heroicbrcther:
âItâs over, I promise⊠what-⊠what do you want to talk about?â He felt like he was fucking everything up, but the tougher subjects were what Davey couldnât stop thinking about.Â
There is a moment where he is SILENT. Well, did he think that FAR? Did he EVER think that far, though? A soft âuhâ escapes the younger Jones boyâs mouth as he scratches his neck this time.
â I donât know --- Uh. I gues --- Howâs it been you know --- The AFTERLIFE, or whatever?â
heroicbrcther:
Davey rubbed at the back of his neck, âYeah, no problem⊠whatâs it been like at home?â He didnât mean to be poking at sore spots, but if he said he didnât miss his parents heâd be lying.
â Itâs MOSTLY alright. I mean, when they are NOT getting arrested. Or HEART ATTACKS.â Parker responded HONESTLY - Thinking about it for a moment before he continued.
â But itâs --- It will be OVER now. I mean, I HOPE. Owen did tell me it WAS over.â
