I am analyzing the journal entries of Steve Harmon and correlating them to research on the maturation of the human brain. This is interesting because as I do research I am seeing how he is thinking with the different parts of the brain and how he is not fully developed. There are reasons why Steve thinks the way he does and it comes out in his journal entries.
I really like this book because there are so many life lessons that can help kids out. Everyone deals with bullying, and family problems. Not only that, but it also teaches kids about programming. Also, the illustrations are fun and interesting. I found myself studying the faces of the characters a lot.
This was exercise #3 of Hello Ruby. I never realized how many computers I’m around and how every small thing has a computer that controls it.
This is a very accurate statement. Over the last few years computers are everywhere and they will continue to expand. We now have computers in our toothbrushes, our styling products, and refrigerators. This is only the beginning of what technology is capable of
This quote was analyzing the scene where O’Brien turned away from Steve after they heard the verdict. I think O’Brien saw through Steve’s performance, or to her, it was just a performance. Her job was to construct this person and make him seem like he was different from the guys he committed the crime with, and she succeeded. But it was only a job to her. Once her job was done, she turned and started seeing him the way that everyone else saw him, as another “monster” who got away with his crime. I think that is why she turned away, her job was done and she disconnected herself from Steve and moved on to her next task.
This was a quote that stood out to me. He was talking about how he couldn't sleep because he felt that if he slept he might die. This is a quote that spoke to me because sometimes all you can do is sit back and wait. You can do everything to prove something to someone and prove yourself after making a bad decision, but in the end, you can only do so much, and I think that is what Steve was realizing
I could see ‘Praying’ by Kesha being on the soundtrack. Any child going through this would be worried, and praying. But, every experience is a life lesson when you are young, and the only way to look at it is to learn and move on and become a better person.
Also, I think anything The Weeknd would be on there. He has been on a lot of movie soundtracks and his voice would seem fitting for the movie.
This was a powerful quote to me. Every child knows something is wrong when they see their father cry, because father’s are supposed to be strong and manly, and crying is not considered that. I think at this point Steve realized that he was in trouble
This quote hit me hard. I thought it was a very strong way to start the book because it makes the reader think. It made me think of all the times when I was a child and would cry at night. Sometimes I would go to my mom, sometimes I would be quiet so no one would hear me. The fact that it says “when someone is being beaten up and screaming for help” puts into perspective the environment he grew up in. Where being beaten up is not an uncommon thing.
This stood out to me because I always thought of the book of Peter Pan as only ABOUT Peter. It is now making me look at the story in a new way.
I think this quote goes alone with the time that this story (play) was written. It was back in the early 1900′s when women were supposed to respect men. I think back, no one would have thought twice about this line, but now it would really bother some women.
I found this quote interesting. It shows that the story of Peter Pan has been around for a long time, and that he is a part of everyone’s childhood.
I chose this book as my diversity book because I think it is so rare that a children’s book talks about people with mental illness. I liked how it simplified mental illness and the feelings people have when dealing with it so that children can understand. I definitely think there should be more books like this
I personally had never been to Cushing Library until today and I am so glad I did! I didn’t know that I could actually go study up there so I’ll be sure to check it out. I love the old-timey Ivy League look it has and it’s a cool comparison to the new very modern second floor of Evans Library.
I thought that this quote from Mr. Noah had an insightful meaning because it stresses the importance of a unified celebration. Even food is deemed as a distracting entity, which helps readers understand how serious the city is about being present in times of happiness. This is something that we can all learn from because of how technology consumes our everyday life, we can retrain ourselves to take the present situation as an important matter that needs our full attention.
I think this post is so accurate. We are so caught up with technology that its hard to grasp what being in the moment is like. This book brings to light the importance and severity of giving life our full attention.
I agree with this post. It is very sad to see how being interested in technology and our own lives has distracted us. People rarely sit down at the table and have a meaningful conversation with one another without a TV or cell phone.
This quote stood out to me because my mother told me this when I was younger. That it is polite to be interested in other people and to not always talk about yourself. Sometimes we don’t realize we are being rude until someone points it out to us and once it is realized you can see a shift in attitude. That’s what I see in Philip after Lucy called him out for being rude.
Growing up, Pokémon was a big part of my life. I had all of the games for gameboy color, I had all of the movies, I had he trading cards, and T-shirt’s, and even bedding. When I was young I would even pretend to be a Pokémon on the playground. I was so surprised to find the world of Pokémon map in the Cushing library. It gave me so much joy because it was all I did when I was a little kid so it brought back a lot of memories. I didn’t know that something like this existed.
