The Sony Picture Animation studio presentation was hosted by Carlos Daniel Vasquez, a talent acquisition manager who went over the expectations and requirements and what is expected of artists that work for Sony. A big part was understanding and applying some fundamental art principles, such as motion, depth, etc. One thing, that is often not thought about for me personally that stood out was some of the typography design, and how some of the principals of typography can be indirectly applied to all facets of concept work as well as being apart of concept art as well. Motion, depth etc. For Spiderverse, a lot of their movies contain graphic words and other elements that tend t exist and move around in order to give a sort of narrative depth to the visuals, as well as reference the pagination structure of comics.
During the 49rs event, we were visited by the creative marketing manager of the SanFran 49ers. He went into the the creative process of how they come up with their branding, and how branding oriented the company is, which makes sense. He went into how different combinations of textures, use of familiar shapes to go with the name, and what kind of things they are lookin for in portfolios. He also talked bout how having a presence online can lead to having connections, which can help kickstart and further your career.
