Kez barely glanced up from the dishrag and glass she was cleaning with it, though it was plain to see from her expression that she was unimpressed by one of the patrons at the bar. She was no stranger to rowdy customers, those who tried to pick fights and those who got a little too loud - she just wasn’t in the mood for it. “Cuttin’ you off after the next drink. ”

“Wait, me?” Addie asked in confusion, looking over her shoulder at the bar. Suddenly hearing a loud grumble from another patron, Adelaide realized that no, the bartender was not talking to her. “Ahh, now I get it.” She said, pursing her lips and looking back to Kez, “I don’t know how you put up with people like that. I see some rough people in the E.R., but these guys are just obnoxious.” Taking the finishing sip of her Diet Coke and Malibu Coconut Rum, she set the empty glass down in front of her with a satisfied sigh.

Working an overnight at the hospital was never Addie’s favorite shift. She preferred to work in the morning through the day, rather than coming in as the sun set and leaving as it started to rise over the small town of Hickory Creek. Her back hurt, her mind was weary, and her eyes were showcasing some dark circles that were anything but luxury. Arguably the most difficult thing about working an overnight shift was having to come down from the adrenaline and fall asleep, which was why she was currently hanging out in the Hickory Diner in a booth alone, a large vanilla milkshake in front of her. Breakfast (or dinner) of champions, without a doubt. Starring slightly into space due to being so tired, she didn’t even realize her eyes had fallen onto someone at the near by booth until a few moments later.  “Oh, I’m sorry,” she said suddenly, snapping out of the fake reality she had spaced off into, “I didn’t mean to stare. It’s been a long night.” Adelaide added, giving a small apology and taking a small sip of the milkshake that sat in front of her.
