you guys i'm sorry i'm lame. i never post like ever. i have update thingies.

first of all, i'm dying my whole head a different color wahoo. 

yeah that's happening to my head on saturday.

anyway, freshman year is going pretty well so far. the only troubles i've had are boy/girl related, which sucks butt (ps i'm pansexual yay wahoo okay awesome). i was in the school play a while ago, high school musical. it was pretty awesome, not gonna lie. it was cool to get to know a bunch of kids from a bunch of grades. it was sweet. 

i have a coolish job opportunity to film and star in a lil commercial for this doctor's office. i would get payed a lot which is freaking awesome. i think i'm gonna do it.

my mom and i are coming down to texas on christmas day, and we'll be there for 8 days. we're going on the hunt for the perfect quince dress. it's gonna be hard, but it'll be cool to see everyone.

I don't understand my feet when they're in boots!

Hey guys,

So as you know it is starting to get colder and colder in Minnesota, (between 20-40 degrees to be exact) which means I have to wear boots now. Unfortunately my feet are so small that when I put boots on it seems I am unable to understand just how big my feet become. This normally wouldn't be a problem but yesterday morning at approximately 9 am, it was a problem. As I was walking down the stairs at Tia Sandy's I missed a step and completely tumbled down with my back against the metal bars with the pointy things on them. Them as if that wasn't enough, my arm went over the railing on the opposite side of my body so when i finally reached the bottom of the stairs my arm got stuck in the post. So basically as my body weight pulled me down, the arm that was stuck on the post pulled me up. (ouch!) Thankfully everything was OK and I walked away with nothing but some bruises and scratches that make me look like i was mulled by a cat of some sort! I'd like to think I look pretty bad ass but considering I have a show in theater this week where I'm lifted, dipped, chased, and dancing, this was probably not the best time to bruise half my body :( The good things is that I didn't break anything so we are A-OK! 

In other news, I currently have a melodrama going on in my life. The stars of the drama include myself and 3 boys! Yes that's right, I've finally caught the eye of boys, unfortunately it's 3 boys and that's just way too much testosterone in my life! Some of you may know that I had a crush on a boy named Brent. Well we went out, and on paper we had a pretty perfect date, but this date kind of made me realize how little we have in common and how awkward that can be. Unfortunately for me, this date made him realize how much he likes me :/ So now I have to figure out if I really do like him and am just freaking out or if I've just finally realized that we aren't compatible. As for the other two guys, they are friends of friends of mine. So I've never actually met either of them but they both want to meet me, and my friends basically set me up on dates. So basically I'm going to be going on a lot of dates this week!

People People, Me People, and Empathy

Hello All!

A few days ago I drank more wine than I'm used to and wrote a blog post that was confusing because I employed the use of parable WAY too much. Thankfully I fell asleep before hitting the "Publish" button. So now I come to you sober to talk about things.

People People & Me People

We're all different, and this becomes most obvious when you're forced to live with people. My very first roommate, Brenda, was great. There was only one weird thing where she pretended to be offended by anything I said, claiming I was racist. But it only lasted for a week, we were at breakfast and she said, "I've just been messing with you, duh." But it's not always peaches and cream. The most important thing is communication, but communication doesn't mean the same thing to everybody. Some people think effective communication involves leaving a post-it, or a simple text, and thats ok if it's working. If it isn't, you need to work TOGETHER to figure out the best way to communicate with each other. It may be an awkward conversation, but trust me, it'll be worth it when you avoid some dumb fight in the future. 

As you'll find out, some people are more accommodating than others. Again, that's ok as long as no one is taking advantage of you. Find out how much you can rely on a person and work with it. I had a friend who was SO selfish when it came to her schedule. If I invited her out, she usually rejected me to stay home and study. But whenever she invited me out, I would drop whatever I was doing to go spend time with her, even if I was actually busy with something. It took me a while to see that this wasn't a working relationship. I started saying No to her when she called me to hang out and guess what, she totally understood, and after that we had a GREAT friendship. You have to know when you're giving too much of yourself or not enough. The key is to find a balance in every relationship and recognize when it's not working out. 

This brings me to my last point, empathy, the ability to understand the feelings of another. It sounds easy in theory, but in practice it's quite difficult. This is something I'm still working on. It's hard to empathize when you're in the moment and all those emotions are fresh. So be more self-reflective, take time before you react, and try to empathize. This is all for now. 

Hey, how cold is it in MN cause I wore shorts last week and yesterday I wore a tank top. Byeeee.

so I have news :3 i have gotten into the Minnesota Opera Summer Program!!!!! *woot woot* i think that's pretty awesome c: 

in other news, theres a boy. his name is andy, but alas, he fancies another girl  as well as me, so i will not pursue it. 

not much going on here, life's pretty boring.

it's my birthday, so that's cool. i got doc martens yesterday and on saturday i'm probably getting my own laptop ^-^

Nothing better to do than Post!

After reading my sisters HILARIOUS post on her pinterest experience I decided to make a post.

Here's an update on my life in 10 sentences:

1. I went to gala(prom) with a boy who decided to tell me he liked me the week before.

2. I got my first 100 in pre-calc!

3. I recently got a new swimsuit for summer 2013!

4. I made a pinterest account and I love it

5. Spring is officially in Minnesota.

6. The sun came out for the first time today!

7. I tan so easily, i'll be black in no time!

8. I got my ticket set up to fly home. (May 27th)

9. Supernatural is currently my favorite tv show.

10. I have less than a month left of junior year!!!

Things I Do Because the Internet Tells Me To

Ok y'all. Last night I was procrastinating on a homework assignment and because I finished all the internet tv shows already, I was looking around on Pinterest. I was becoming more and more insecure because I'm not cleaning, or gardening, or cooking, or styling my hair into intricate braids, or putting awesome make-up on my face, or wearing badass clothes in various neutral shades. I'm not doing any of the things Pinterest is telling me to do! And then I came across a Pin that said something like

"Fix your hair in less time than it takes to cook breakfast!"

And I thought to myself

"Wow thats amazing, I don't cook breakfast so this should take no time at all!!"

My mood was improving by the minute. To be clear, this is the Pin I was looking at

So I found two eggs in my refrigerator that had expired on April 3rd and I thought

"These are probably still good enough to coat my hair, it's just hair!"

The Pin says to combine two egg yolks with two tablespoons of olive oil and a cup of water, leave it in your hair for fifteen to twenty minutes, then rinse it out. THATS ALL THE PIN SAYS TO DO. So thats all I did.

So there I am at midnight hunched over my bathtub with my head soaking in a bowl of this (expired) egg yolk mixture for twenty minutes. By the way, there was definitely an eggy smell. TURNS OUT, theres more to the Pin than meets the eye. First off, you have to rinse out the hair with COLD water or else the egg will start to literally cook in your hair...awesome. ALSO, rinsing it out with just water isn't enough, you have to shampoo and condition to get it all out. 

Well I didn't know any of these things and have consequently spent all day today with oily, egg smelling hair that miraculously feels like buttah (butter) in a good way. So I am off now to shower and wash away my internet shame. I hope all is well with you guys. Don't trust the internet and don't trust people...people make the internet.

So this is the New Year....

So I decided to post something today to appease my sister. I think she really wanted this blog to work and even though she's the only one posting stuff, it's time to get back on this band wagon. The new year has been real good to me. My classes are running a lot smoother and I'm finally starting to feel like I fit in around here. Some positives that have occurred since the new year: I got some real big parts in my opera workshop class/performances, I got chosen to audition for a scholarship, I quit my job at outback and found a new one teaching piano at Valley Keyboards, and another job teaching childrens choir at this other church. Things have really turned around for me in such a short amount of time. Even though I hated the idea of being here for the rest of my college years, what makes it worth it is the education I am receiving. I feel very confident in the degree that I am getting, and being here, taking the courses I am taking, and working with all this music, really encourages me to continue my education in music and pursue this career. As scary as it all seems, I am actually really excited to graduate and start teaching in my own classroom, it would be the biggest blessing in my life. I was talking to Aaron the other day and, even though it's probably really premature to discuss a future together, we did anyways for funsies. We both agreed that after a while, when we get a career started and have a little money, we want to open up a music academy, he would teach composition, and guitar, and I would teach voice and piano! I know it's premature but I'm really excited about this idea! That way we'd be our own bosses and manage our own money! All this talk about teaching and music has really motivated me to learn and all that I can and soak up all the knowledge I am learning now for my future classroom. This is it guys, there's no going back now!!!

Oh mah god! Maria, I just listened to your Skinny Love cover and I have a few comments:

1. beautiful voice! you need to make an album or a youtube channel or both!

2. your voice is so beautiful that you could actually BEAUTIFY other songs. EX: you make an album where you only sing Creed. But I would listen to it because it would be your precious voice singing and not Scott Stapp. Viola! Creed becomes good.

3. your hair got long! how come it grows so fast? do you have a special scalp treatment? tell me the secrets!

4. You could become famous if you branded your eyebrows. they could become iconic. look into it.

5. They should have cast you for the role of Bella Swan. How come your skin is so pale? Does it hurt when the sun touches you?

6. Great taste in music!

7. You could create a series for this blog where you cover a song like once a month. Thats a great idea!
