“From the day we sailed the Titanic was on fire” — John Dilley, fireman aboard the Titanic
what in the heck
“The obvious question you might come up with at this point is, “why can’t you just put out the fire?” That’s because of the incendiary nature of coal. In general, a coal fire is extremely difficult to deal with under the best circumstances. If you had all the resources in the world and a good deal of space to work, they can be impossible to put out. Aboard a ship in tight quarters, it gets even more difficult.
An example of the difficulties with a coal fire would be the coal fire in Centralia, Pennsylvania. This fire broke out in a mine in the Northeast United States and has proven impossible to put out. How impossible you ask? It’s been burning since May 27, 1962.”
Holy shit
“Another issue that has always caused confusion was the Titanic’s speed. It was running at full speed when crossing the Atlantic Ocean, even when there were warnings of icebergs in the area. There were rumors that the ship was trying to break some kind of speed record, but the Titanic was not built for speed. This mammoth ship was a luxury liner. Molony indicates that this could have been caused by the fire-fighting activities.
In order to fight the fire, the stokers had been shoveling the burning coal into furnaces to burn the fire away. If the stokers had been shoveling as much coal as possible that could be the reason for the speed of the ship. As excess coal was burnt, the engines would work harder, generating speed. The stokers had been shoveling coal into the furnaces nonstop for 3 days fighting the fire during the maiden voyage. Molony thinks this is the reason why the ship was going at full speed when it hit the iceberg.”
Wow that makes *so much sense.*
I saw this article and just assumed it was political satire. What the fuck.
Ditto. What the fuck.
( DuPage County Register, 26 Apr 1912, Fri, Page 7 - I found this in the Snopes article on the subject)
Dilleys’ report was in newspapers in 1912; how did this not get into the massive cultural memory of the Titanic? I’ve heard accounts of how it sunk at least 10 times and never about this.
Hope you’re all having a beautiful start to your week! Don’t forget, your Edge of Extinction companion loves you, believes you, and supports you in your choices.
Hi there anon!
Included some cleaner faces, though pre-Cager otherwise main characters. Looking forward to adding to it as your characters grow up. :)
Another set of wallpapers today, featuring Titanic! We’re so glad that you’ve all had a chance to enjoy (and sometimes cry to) Titanic. Can’t wait to bring you all on new adventures aboard the Titanic! Find the high resolution images here: https://imgur.com/a/24f196T
A huge thank you and a happy new year to all of our fans! We appreciate the time you’ve taken to experience Storyscape, and we can’t wait to bring you all new updates on our shows (and more shows!) in the upcoming year. Hope your 2020 is filled with exciting choices, in and out of the Storyscape app!
starting the x files. why this bitch named fox

Drew this to announce I’m non-binary and queer. Tumblr is the first place I felt comfortable enough to say these things about myself though now I’m finally finding the self acceptance to be open about it everywhere in my life. Feels good.
Icon changes for me & @jessicadexler (which i more or less co-opted to be a tutorial sb) bc though storyscape may be gone, they still live in my heart.
(also i love to complete a set aha <3)

Happy Valentine's Day! 💗
YOU GUUUUUYYYSSSSS
I’m in love with these four pictures of Lily Elsie
It’s been over a year since Fogbank and Storyscape were shut down, and it still pains me to think of how close we were to finishing AGELESS. In that story, you could play a non-white, non-binary PC. You could choose your pronouns. The story had romance in it, but wasn’t romance-focused (you could be ace if you wanted.) The villain was not conventionally attractive, and you could still choose to romance him. You could choose to be merciful or a blood-crazed murder machine. One of my favorite moments in the show involved a flashback to post WWII (since it was a vampire story, there were a lot of flashbacks) and you had the choice to rip the still-beating heart out of a Nazi’s chest. The show was created and written by a woman, directed by a gay POC, produced by a queer gender fluid person (me.) I’ve probably said too much and yet, would love to say more because I am so sad none of us will ever experience it.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Epilogue: Underwater (SC Titanic, Zetta x Adele Series)
As promised, here the epilogue of the Zetta x Adele Series, folks.
This is the very end of a project that meant me quite a lot to me and got me through the last terrible year. Thanks to all those who supported it: hope you enjoyed it and will enjoy this ending.
In case you were wondering, this song inspired the whole series, particularly the last chapters:
I will skip the tag list for once since it’s pointless anyway.

Almost a century after the sinking of the RMS Titanic and to celebrate Canada becoming the first country outside Europe to legalise same-sex marriage, the Canadian Film Institute decided to work side by side with several LGBTQ+ organisations across the world to put together an exhibition focused on the early queer cinema and the many queer stars who were forced to hide their true selves in the Golden Age of cinematography, spanning from 1890s till the aftermath of Second World War. “A testament to the role the LGBTQ+ community played in the history of cinema and that we have always been here, even if people hardly saw us” as a journalist wrote on a queer magazine. After the recent discovery of some private documents, the curators were overjoyed to include an icon of the 1900s - 1910s cinema like Zetta Serda into the retrospective and cast a new light on her extraordinary career sadly soon forgotten after the advent of the sound era. Yet, the silent picture star was mentioned as a model and ‘endless source of inspiration" by many queer movie stars like Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Greta Garbo all part of the retrospective. Rumor has it that as soon as she landed in America, Marlene Dietrich demanded his agent a meeting with Mrs King.
