Tessa had what felt like a million tabs open in her head, she was mentally going over errands to do, chores waiting at home, and a job tomorrow to worry about she wasn’t as focused on the people around her as she thought she was. By then it was too late and the coffee was spilled. “Oh my god! I’m so sorry! are you alright?” It felt like a stupid question. Of course, they weren’t if she had been dripping fresh coffee, definitely not. “I’m so sorry can I get you a new coffee, outfit, a towel?” She gave a weak smile, joking about the last one but had a handful of napkins ready.
Tossing the coffee cup in the nearest bin, Adeline quickly looked down at her top to check the damage. The stain she could live with, to be honest. It was mostly the heat. Pulling on her top a little so it wasn’t touching her chest, she looked over to the other. “It’s fine. Just hot.” She responded, as she gratefully accepted the napkins. “As much as I’d love to accept the new outfit offer, it’s own damn fault to be honest. I wasn’t paying any attention as to where I was going...”
Teddy isn’t entirely sure what they’re cooking anymore he just knows it’s a disaster… A fun chaotic disaster. He hasn’t had this much fun in a kitchen- ever. Though last time he cooked in the kitchen he set the entire thing on fire and the band didn’t bother replacing anything so now all the takeout places nearby know their names. “Wait- do you smell burning?” Teddy glances over at Adeline and starts laughing. “Wow, we really are shit at this cooking thing.” @adelinemckenna
She wasn’t quite sure how she’d gotten roped into this, but nonetheless here they were - cooking. The two last people who should be cooking, they had quickly found out. Adeline prided herself in being able to cook a handful of dishes very well, like ridiculously well. But anytime she tried to make something new, things never worked out well. Today was yet again proof of that statement. At Teddy’s words, Adeline’s eyes widen quickly before running over to the oven and pulling out a very burnt dish from it. “Oh fuck.” She mutters as she places the tray down on the counter before bursting out in laughter with Teddy. “We’re horrible... and Jimmy is going to kill me.” She adds, as she takes a look around the kitchen which looks as if a hurricane had gone through it.
Connor was already overwhelmed by the amount of work he had to do. Not only with his own studies, but with planning out lesson plans and teaching, and making sure that his classroom was set up the best way, He was reading an update from his school; something about what to do in winter weather when he felt the impact before he felt anything else. “Oh no! I’m so sorry. I gosh, I should have been watching where I was going,” he frowned. “I.. can I.. is there anything I can do?”
Letting out a little groan as she looks down at her now stained top, she can’t help but mentally curse herself. She’d already made a bit of a reputation in her team for being a coffee addict that barely looks up from any technological device, and now she could practically already hear their laughter if she was to explain to them what had happened. “It’s fine.” She speaks out, trying to figure out how bad the damage was. “I wasn’t paying attention either... You wouldn’t happen to have an napkins or something?”
Hood up, shades on, Teddy is hoping for a quiet day without the press down his throat. He had been up all night in the studio recording new music and didn’t get out till an hour ago. He’s too bone tired to deal with flashing cameras and questions being yelled at him. Playing the new track through his headphones, he’s mentally already changing half of it and rethinking the chorus when he collides with another person. “Oh, shit!” Hot coffee everywhere though Teddy only receives a couple drops. “Fuck, my bad!” He isn’t sure what to do so on impulse he removes his hoodie and offers it to her to either use as a napkin or to hide the stain. Though he completely forgets why he was wearing it in the first place. “My bad, I’m like half asleep on my feet, dude. Just- you can take this.”
Adeline is just looking down at her now stained top when she hears the other speak. “No, I wasn’t paying any attention. This is on me.” She admits when she suddenly gets a hoodie offered. Looking up, she almost feels bad as she notices just how tired the other looks. As much as she appreciates the gesture, she simply pushes it back his way and shakes her head. “It’s cool. I’ll just uh- pull this off as a new fashion statement or something. You need that, it’s too cold not to wear that.” She says before making an attempt to pull her top back a bit, trying to have some space between her skin and the hot stain.
Scarlett had been gathering together her things when she heard the yelp coming from out front of the shop. She had the perfect view as she’d been sitting in front of the windows she spotted the young woman standing there with hot coffee all over her. Rushing out of the cafe carrying her things and a to-go cup of coffee. “Are you okay? I didn’t see what happened but whoever bumped into you is an asshole for not bothering to check on you.” Scarlett said to the other woman rifling through the gym bag on her arm hurriedly grabbing her sweat towel, unused as she’d been on her way to the gym holding it out. “Here you can use this. You need it more than me.”
The person who’d bumped into her only gave her a quick glance before grumbling something under their breath and turning to walk off. Their actions were enough to piss Adeline off, so before they could actually walk away - she quickly grabbed their wallet without them noticing. She’d leave it behind at the coffee bar, she really just needed their name so she could give them a little payback. Hearing another voice, Adeline quickly pushes the wallet away in her pocket before anyone can catch her in the act. “I’m fi- oh, thank you.” A towel gets pushed her way before she realises. Taking it gratefully, she does her best to dab the hot liquid off of her. “Glad to see at least some people are nice.”
Briella yawned, trying to rub the tiredness from her eyes. She loved her job, but damn was it exhausting. She rounded a corner quickly, determined to get back to her apartment and sleep until Thursday, but she was woken up by colliding with another person, feeling warm liquid splash onto her shirt. “Oh crap,” the nurse groaned, looking at the person she’d run into. “I’m soo sorry. I’m literally dead on my feet today, I should have probably called a cab..”
The heat of the drink was enough for Adeline to jump a little as she did her best to quickly pull the top back from her skin. Looking over to the other, she was about to scold them when she noticed their exhausted and apologetic face. “It’s fine. A little hot, but other than that it’s fine.” Trying to reassure the other, she quickly tosses away the now empty coffee cup and tries to think if she has any back-up tops in her bag.
“Come on you have to dance with me! I refuse to let you leave until you do. You don’t have to be good you just got to have fun!” Alexa declares as she does some strange marching dance move, bouncing on the spot, as if to prove how even the silliest move could be used.
Adeline just looks at the other, shaking her head. “Oh no, I’m not-” She speaks, her eyes darting around the room in an attempt to spot something that could get her out of it. “I’m having fun! So I don’t have to dance, see.” She points at the big smile on her face as if trying to make her point.
Rooting around in her purse for a moment she let out a sound of triumph as she pulled the napkins out and quickly handed them over. “Here I might even have a tide wipe or pen or something for that stain…” She trailed off as she continued to dig through her purse. “I get stains all the time at work so I keep these handy.” She handed a wipe over. “How bad is the burn…it’s not blistering is it?” She bit her lip
Shaking her top back and forth in an attempt to not come in contact with the hot stain as well as trying to get some air inside to cool down, Adelaide watches as the other searches for the napkins. Smiling lightly, she gratefully accepts them and tries to dab the stain down, glad that the cold air has a least already taken care of the heat of it all. “That oka-” She starts off, only to notice the other already digging in their bag and pulling out the wipe. “Oh, thanks.” Adelaide responds with a small smile accepting the wipe. Cleaning up as best as she can, she quickly glances down her chest. “No blisters, so looks like I’ll be fine.” Thank god. She thinks to herself, not certain if she could handle the rest of her team laughing at her for getting yet another injury, without even being on a job. “Thanks for the tissues and the wipe, that helped a lot.”
Jimmy had expected nothing less from Adeline. Though he makes a mental note to have her trained so her punches land harder. It was hard enough to move him a little which also woke Bear his large newfoundland dog lying across his lap, now blinking awake and whining about it. “I know, baby, she’s feeling a bit mean today.” Stroking his dog’s head, brown hues turn to the woman before him. “Everyone we work for are pigs. I knew you could handle yourself and that’s why I sent you.” He shrugs, picking up a cigarette and setting it between his lips as he searches for his lighter. “For next time- we have the upper hand in the situation. We don’t share names, we don’t share details, we know what they want and we have evidence that they’ve sought out someone to get it for them. Use it. Yes, we need the client but the client also needs us. Check the chessboard before moving a pawn, kid.”
Hearing Bear whine a little due to having been woken up, is almost enough for Adeline to feel guilty about it. Almost. But not quite, and so she just stands there with her arms crossed as she listens to Jimmy’s words. Of course she knows that the people they work for are pigs, there’s a reason why these people turn to them and they’re all too happy to take the money these pigs offer. But there are still some things that Adeline wasn’t willing to accept. “Fine. Of course I was able to handle it, I’m nothing if not professional in those kinds of situations.” Noticing the way he’s looking for his lighter, she quickly spots it on the side table and picks it up. Playing with it between her fingers, she gives him a look as she refuses to give it to him immediately. “But next time a client thinks he can put their grabby hands on me, all professionalism goes out the window and they’re getting punched in the face. After that I’ll go with the threatening with evidence direction.”
Walking through the door of the apartment, Adeline drops her bag on the floor dramatically before heading over to where Jimmy was sat. Before he could even open his mouth, she swiftly punched him in the arm. “That’s for making me go through that.” She spoke, her voice dangerously soft which betrayed just how annoyed she was. She’d just returned from meeting with a prospective client - something about wanting to be able to place faces to the people he was paying for the job. Which was fair, she could understand that much. What she didn’t care for however was the hand on lap as they were sat during the conversation, nor the hand on the small of her back or the ambiguous words that he spoke. “Yeah the money’s good, but that man is a pig.” @jimmycolloway
Shiloh hadn’t really been too aware of her surroundings until someone bumped into her with just enough force to cause her to drop her phone. “Ah, fuck” She swore, quickly dropping down to pick it up and survey the now slightly cracked screen; she knew she should have gotten a screen protector but she had convinced herself it was a waste of money. “Oh shit are you okay” She looked up at the person who had bumped her, noticing the coffee on her clothes. “Here I have some napkins…”
Taking off her coat so she could have easier access to her stained shirt, her eyes fall to the ground as she hears something fall. Wincing lightly, she starts to shake her short a little so it’s no longer touching her chest. “I’m fine!” She speaks, her voice slightly higher than usual as her eyes stay focused on the stain. “It’s just... very hot.” An awkward chuckle escapes her lips as she tries to remember if she has anything that could help herself out. Upon hearing the other’s words, her eyes immediately flutter back to them. “Yes, oh my god - napkins would be really appreciated.”
Exiting the café, her coffee in her hand, Adeline was too focused on her phone and thus not really paying attention to anyone around her. Taking a quick sip of her coffee, she scrolls through the email that Jimmy had just sent her with some more information on their next job. Eyes glued to her screen, she didn’t notice the other person until it was too late. Bumping into the other with her arm, the coffee tipples over right onto her. Letting out a little yelp, Adeline’s attention quickly moves on from her phone and instead onto her now coffee stained clothes. Hot coffee even, to make things worse. “Ouch, ow - okay that’s one way to really wake up...”

TW: death, faking a death, crime
History
Her mother was only seventeen years old when she fell pregnant with her, the father was an eighteen-year-old high school graduate on his year abroad in Japan and was already gone by the time the pregnancy was discovered
The mother's parents told her she had two choices, either she'd give the child up for adoption or she would be disowned and they would no longer consider her their daughter - she went with the first option and immediately went to an adoption agency
Born in Japan, she was adopted shortly after her birth and taken to the United States. She was given the name Kelsey Quinn.
She grew up in San Francisco with a close-knit family, which included two older brothers - her adoption was never a secret, her parents were always very open about it and considering she was the only Asian kid in an otherwise white family, it was pretty obvious
Got really into everything computers and programming at eight years old and quickly showed to have quite her way with it, even being able to build a computer from scratch
Around twelve she discovered the magical world of hacking, she was very good at it too, but she also already knew the kind of trouble she could get into and so she steered away from it (or at least made sure she couldn't get discovered and never actually took anything)
Despite being a complete computer nerd, Kelsey was pretty popular in high school. She was just kind of friendly with everyone and everyone liked her plenty.
When she was eighteen, one of her brothers died in an 'accident'. Her family was told that he had gotten behind the wheel drunk and that he'd gotten in car accident that way - she didn't believe it for even one second, because she knew her brother knew better than to do that.
So she did what she did best and she hacked her way into some databases and other places she wasn't supposed to find her way into and ended up discovering that the detective on her bother's case was dirty and had been paid off by a gang to cover up the death of her brother, who had fallen victim of mistaken identity due to a mistake of one of the gang members.
Pissed off by the whole thing, Kelsey did what she felt was only right and anonymously sent out the file that she had built up to all the newspapers and online bloggers she could find and it kind of blew up. The detective on the case was fired and sentenced to time in prison, but unfortunately despite the fact that the leaders of the gang were prosecuted, nothing ever happened and they got away with it all.
Of course Kelsey couldn't leave it like that, and so she decided to hit the gang where it hurt them the most - their wallet. She hacked into all of their bank accounts and cleared them out, donating the majority to various charities and putting away some of it for herself and her family- it seemed to her the least of what they deserved.
Unfortunately for her, she was sloppy due to her anger and left behind a trace that pointed the gang in her direction and so a kill order was put on her head. Knowing that she had inadvertently put her family and friends in danger, Kelsey faked her death and ran away.
That's when she became Adeline McKenna. It was pretty easy to create a new identity for herself, what she couldn't do herself, she found the right (albeit shady) people to help her with.
At nineteen she was just keeping her head low, taking money from people who gave her odd little jobs that required her skills and always keeping an eye out in case she was recognized.
Through one of these odd jobs she met Jimmy, impressed with her skills he decided to recruit her to his ragtag team. She was hesitant about it at first, but eventually she realised how much safer she would be in his team and how much more comfortable she'd be and so she said yes.
It wasn't that long after she'd joined the team that Jimmy was arrested - it spooked her for a bit but the second in command was able to convince her to stick around and to this day she still doesn't regret her choice.
As far as the outside world is concerned, she's a website designer. It's a cover story she's created just in case, and to keep it alive she'll occasionally take on a job so she doesn't get find out. All of her time is spent on being the hacker for the team though.
Even though she knows that she covered herself well, she's lowkey still worried that one day the gang that she pissed off might come after her - but even then she knows she has her new family, and knowing what kind of people they are, she's aware that she shouldn't be too worried.
Personality
Once believing about the good in people, Adeline has become far more weary of people's intentions.
She doesn't believe in good or bad, she's seen supposedly good people be bad and so now she's more than happy to just believe in money. It's far easier that way.
Can be the most energetic, upbeat person one moment and a sarcastic lil' shit the next.
Isn't scared to call people out on their shit and doesn't really worry about the consequences.
She's not easy to piss off, but if someone does - fully expect her to get back at them. Whether it'll be something subtle like hacking into their social media accounts and wreaking havoc that way, or something less subtle like punching them in the face - she doesn't let go of a grudge until after she's retaliated.
A disaster in the kitchen. Has like a handful of dishes that she can actually make pretty well, everything else is awful and you’d take a huge risk trying a bite of.
Wanted/possible connections
The rest of the team, ofc
Drinking buddies
People who always come to her for all kind of tech issues
People who've hired her to design their website (0/3)
People that she’s worked for with Jimmy’s team
People she's slept with / is sleeping with
Exes since she’s gotten to New York - no relationship would’ve lasted long as she would’ve doubted all of their intentions so it could be angsty
Someone who’s all genuine good intentions that Adeline’s always weary about and basically looking for their (non-existent) hidden agenda and might end up actually giving her hope that there’s still some actual good people around
Honestly - give me drama and give me someone that reminds her of/looks a lot like her dead brother
Someone from the gang in San Francisco she’s running from that’s come to New York and maybe recognizes her when they bump into each other and decides not to report it to the gang just yet and tries to befriend her to see if they can play her or use her or even just a totally different path tbh
Someone that she totally clashes with to the point where they piss her off all the time and it takes her everything not to completely wreck their life or get into a fight with - might even just end up in hate sex sometimes
