As I paint each of these images, I imagine a place illuminated by a light that is not of this world—a place where the water of life urges everything to live the way it is meant to. A place where the chorus of angels echoes between the hills, and as their voices climb to the highest mountains, they disperse into shimmering notes.
It is a place of bliss and happiness, hidden away from us for now. Perhaps it is a place you glimpsed in your childhood, only to realize that it is not yet time. Not until we cross the bridge. Not until we walk through the old wardrobe into the forest meadow with the lamp. Not until we have done what we are called to do here.
There is an almost unreal purity in the nature of this place. A hidden pearl—a temple, or perhaps a stronghold—calls its people home, yet lets them wander the fields as they please.
This series of paintings is only the surface of what I am trying to portray through the expression Silver Glass. It reaches far deeper than any single artistic style. This first collection is perhaps the most naïve of them all. I usually try to anchor my paintings in a more realistic style, but with this series I wanted to offer a glimpse of that place through a more childlike approach. I found that intensely vivid greens and blues, with an almost impressionistic quality, conveyed that feeling best.
These are the kinds of paintings you catch only in passing as you walk down a hallway or step into your room. They remain there in silence, unnoticed for most of the day, never large enough to fill your field of vision, yet always waiting for the right moment to be seen. Even in that passing glance, you immediately recognize the landscape or the scene, and it stays with you. You remember it.
