First step: Draw more than you do now. Second Step: Repeat until you die homeless in the street.
Comment from the YouTube by Proximo K about drawing tutorials
Practice like in rollercoaster
Last month was like a rollercoaster for my practice. I tried a lot, but a lot of different things. - I drew some fruit and flower.
- I tried ditigal painting See the value, learn color theory (it’s really nice!). But also takes a lot of time, and for me now is more important practice drawing.
- I studied a special framework for create mobile games - Unity.
Firstly I lost a few days to try learn a special framework from Apple - SpriteKit. However for a number of reasons I had a hard nut to crack. When I dive to the code in the SpriteKit I see a lot of new things to learn where it doesn’t matter what you use - SpriteKit or Unity. Next I don’t know what to choose SpriteKit or Unity. It’s not a time to explain everything, but simply:
If I choose SpriteKit I can prepare mobile games only for iPhone, iPad, Mac. If I choose Unity Framework I can prepare mobile games for every platform and I have great community with a lot of articles, videos, tutorials and example codes.
Thanks this reason I choose Unity and it was really good time. I understand everything what I try to learn. It’s not too much hard for me, because it’s very similar to the things what I do in my job by 8 hours per day. - I wrote scenario for my mobile game with a history about my character. It was my last month. Now I need more sketching and faster. I have simply plan for this month with character design.
Today I try sketch simple, but perfect heart. After few trials, when I saw what have perfect heart inside I hit on an idea about play with vectors. Results:
Week with animals - Cats
I have one idea for this week. I will create sketches for animals. It should help me to create sketches for my players in my future game. I'm starting from cats. :)
My first cats:
I also train skeleton:
And little train faces:
Have you some tips for me?
Upside-down drawing
Today I finished two excercises for my "right side brain". First was "Vase and two profile face illusion" and another here:
Upside-down drawing from upside-down reference (Pablo Picasso, "Portrait of Igor Stravinsky").
When I was bored reading a book, I prepared special viewfinders with different colors. It's really nice stuff and I have little fun with that.
The Right Side of the Brain
I'm reading Betty Edwards book - "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". First excercise from the book is take a mirror and try sketch self-portrait. Sketch should show my current skills.
I don't know what I should think about this sketch, because I see little similarity, but don't too much. I really like this sentence from book, because it is is like a promise for me:
"Drawing is a teachable, learnable skill that can provide a twofold advantage. By gaining access to the part of your mind that works in a style conducive to creative, intuitive thought, you will learn a fundamental skill of the visual arts: how to put down on paper what you see in front of your eyes. Second, through learning to draw by the method presented in this book, you will enhance your ability to think more creatively in other areas of your life."
I will try finish every excercise from this book and We will see together my progress. Hopefully this book will let me more confident in drawing.
Next excercise was drawing person from memory.
I'm a little ashamed of this drawing, because is too ugly to show. :D
For me It's really hard to imagine person what I know. I don't remember too much details.
Last excercise for check my skills was drawing my hand. I put my hand on the table and start sketching.
I was surprised my result.
I liked this exercises, because I never draw self-portrait or my hand.
I believe the logical progression for a person starting out in artistic expression should be as follows: From Line to Value to Color to Painting
Betty Edwards “The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”
Eyes & simple front face
Today I was little sketching and I was trying lineart. I used reference photo on the second monitor for to do that.
It was very slow process. I need improve my sketching speed.
Hello world!
Hello everyone! My name is Adrian and I'm from Poland. It's time to start my adventure with sketching, drawing and digital painting.
I'm iOS Developer. My main activity is programming. I created several mobile apps. I don't have to much talent, special mind for drawing, imagination or something like that. But I believe that with hard work I can see my progress and improve my skills.
My main goal is to create graphics for 2d mobile games. I would like to develop my own style.
List of Foundamentals in Art to improve:
Proportion & placement
Form & Construction
Colour theory
Perspective
Anatomy
Gesture
In the feature I would like to divide this list to the small parts and tasks .
List of my tasks (small parts for the main goal):
Different poses.
Drawing faces.
Train sketching from references. (Mostly people and animals)
Create my own characters with different poses.
Possibility to draw my own characters with different emotions, different clothes and stuff from my mind.
Create assets for 2d platform game, like trees, water, stones, wood (vector graphics, vector linearts and coloring.
As regards the achievability of the goals, I still have doubts. I hope that you can also help me. It would be great to hear your tips for me.
