Hiyama Kiyoteru’s 8th anniversary of release is at the end of this year, on December 4th. To celebrate that, an overseas compilation album will be created to release on that day! This album will primarily need music producers, artists, and tuners who can render Kiyoteru’s vocals.  This means that you can still write a song, even if you don’t own Kiyoteru yourself. In addition, other important roles like lyricists, video makers, promoters, and an album mastering engineer are also welcome! Anyone can apply to join the album.  Applications open today, August 1st, and will close at the end of the month on August 31st. Let’s celebrate our favorite vocaloid sensei!

Resources and directories for a new English UTAU standard

I’ve launched an Arpasing website!  It has tutorials for things like making and using Arpasing banks, useful resources like phoneme charts, and directories of USTs, voicebanks, and arpasing OTOers.  

You can submit your own entries to the directories as well!  The site will be regularly updated, so keep an eye on it!

A lot of music producers like to start out with things like keyboards and speakers, but to be honest, you need nothing more than your current computer (or even mobile device) and some headphones.

“Flarmpaptt Dawlcs Sorrlalgb” - that’s my personal silly acronym for a long list of various software for writing music.  My recommendations for free stuff are Garageband for mac, Podium and LMMS for windows, and Tracktion for both.

As for the vocalsynth part, I think the easiest vocalsynth to use is Alter/Ego.  You can use it as a plugin in your music software the same way as any other instrument, and you just need to type in the lyrics and you’re all set.  If you have a keyboard, it’s also fun to experiment with playing the melodies live.  Alter/Ego is free to download, so you don’t need to spend any money compared to starting out with Vocaloid.

If you do start out with vocaloid, I recommend not getting Sonika. Cheap, yes, hard to use, most definitely.  Almost any other vocaloid is easier to make sound good.

Congratulations, Velvet for finishing and releasing Velveteen! I remember designing him back in January, and it’s an honor to be able to design such an amazing UTAU, so I just- Decided to do an actual serious picture of him to celebrate!
