Pokémon government 101: a canon based breakdown of basic mainline media in how most government bodies in pokemon are structured and ran

Please have common knowledge of manga anime and game lore structure, this is for anyone needing to grasp or refresh what is canon compliant in their writing or reading. They say you cannot break the rules until you learn them so here’s a layout.

The pokemon league (champion - E4 - Gym leaders, in that order top to bottom) controls the whole but they can hire others to fill in smaller roles which leads to secondary officials, it’s how retired title holders can still maintain power, the way next of kin and other relatives can become respected by the public before or without earning titles, and how we have mayor positions and big corporations with region wide control. They are picked by the league’s members to aid them- the big dogs, if you will.

League governments is canon, we see no other reigning government. Unova, Galar, Kalos in the manga, when crisis strikes it is the league that steps in this implies them as government bodies.

Chairman rose, Jett, Vinnie, and the unnamed mayor are all secondary officials brought into power by league involvement, past titles or scouting.

There is definitely something to say about secondary officials being worse than our rigorous league members as they are brought on by exhaustion and desperation, missing the ruthless hoops league officials jump through to get and then maintain their positions.

Gym leaders and e4s are elected by champions, champions are trained by former champions (ORAS), the first champion of a region is taught by the one who organized the championships (Sun&Moon), everything is taught sought and earning of their positions but in no means forcing the same standards on others.

In other regions they have different styles of governance, Hoenn has a much long period of proving yourself before taking your title as show with the protagonist not being given the legal authority their title should hold after beating Steven. Or Paldea which likely runs in a much more monarchish or perhaps an election based system since Geeta is a top champion in a sea of champion ranks. She is a government official but other champions are not. They do not have the credentials to hold her seat. That is how paldea’s government works.

Some governments we are watching shift, Alola’s government body is in the hands of top trial captains and is only now shifting into the league format of functioning. Meaning corporations have room to be more powerful than the government itself. It’s in a weaken and evolving state, it’s vulnerable.

Younger kids often only sit as faces in governance while they are taught by older members to work their positions when they come closer to age: like poppy and her lesbian moms.

Young champions spend time with prior champions to understand the power they hold and can release their title at anytime.

You can look into and study everything I’m saying in much more detail. You will find more evidence in favor than against it. This is the short TLDR of what could be HOURS of government analysis across MULTIPLE REGIONS in MULTIPLE TIMELINES and MULTIPLE ERAS

And stop ignoring canon sources when this should be common knowledge by basic inference and engaging with the series it’s important even when doing divergent stuff….
