Vigilantism was the hint he'd been trying to get across, here. Even with that piece of hesitation. Calculated motions on top of calculated motions. His tell a series of quicker breaths he worked too hard to clamp down on.
"Team Rocket didn't--" A click of the tongue. "Whatever. Bet there's folks out in Johto feeling the same way I do."
Don't give an inch. Don't give his Lord any reason to be disappointed.
"What, and you trust the cops?" Looking this person up and down-- "Of course you do. You've got 'reports people for loitering' written all over your face."
A scoff. A turn on his heel. "Wannabe hall monitor types..."
She was on the right track. She could feel it. Viola Lang was not an investigator for the TIB for nothing. "You're getting quite incensed. Apologies if I offended you." she said, calculated words needed to draw him out even further. You learn the most about a person from what they are like when cornered.
"I'm not a cop, if that's your concern, Sir. But it does strike me as strange that you insist so on Team Plasma not existing anymore, and yet you try to flee when I ask simple questions."
And out of place she was. Out of place, and out of time. Not that this man would know. And Miss Lang had absolutely no intention of revealing that information to a potential info broker.
"Don't worry about the funds," she replied to the tall man, never removing her visible eye's gaze from his elegant features. He's suspicious, and with good reason. "the price will be covered."
Viola approaches the man's desk, her arms neatly folded behind her back, a clear, orderly contrast to her seemingly wild and neon appearance. "Say, sir, how much do you know about Paldea and it's crater?"
"heard that one before..." lio rests his chin on his palm, a humourless smile gracing a thin mouth. "proof you got the cash or i ain't singing lady." did she think he was born yesterday? regulars, sure, he'd give them a little wiggle room but a stranger who dropped in unannounced?
not a fucking chance.
he's intrigued by where this is going but until there's money on the table, he's not budging.
"Of course." she replies sweetly, eyebrows furrowing as she watches the man rest his chin on his palm. He was in his element, confident whatever situation she could get him into he'd be able to handle. The scientist smiles, the faint lines going down her right cheeck and over her jawline distorting slighty at the expression.
"Would you like straight cash or a discreet transfer?"

"depends what intel." lio watches the stranger with suspicion as stands in his office. she looks out of place, too brightly coloured in the solid black and white of the space they're sharing. "depends on the size of your bank account too."

i have no self control but e all know this. new rocket oc, in charge of bringing back the deserters and correcting their behaviour.

"I'm Unovan. You don't think that's reason enough?" A false accusation would incense anyone. Adrenaline spikes hit with the subtle flares of his nose. Cold fear gripped at his shoulders, and all the while, his arms crossed to match hers. Self-comforting gestures, all while that pleasant smile he wore turned into a most frost-covered glare.
This was a person of interest. That bet of his had been well-placed after all.
"Someone steals your starter, puts your whole region on ice, and you don't think to watch that motherfucker like a Braviary?"
There's hesitation there. A brief falter in his gaze.
"And I'm johtonian, but you don't see me constantly keeping tabs on Team Rocket." she merely retorted, clearly unimpressed with his incensed response. "I have more pressing matters to attend to than constantly follow the lead on any random wannabe grunt I come across, sir."
She blinked in exasperation, the visible eye remaining closed for a second longer than usual, and the two hidden cybernetic eyes behind her hair communicating subtler information. Little movements and tells from her conversational partner. Something a normal human might not even immediatly pick up upon.
Admin Lang kept her distance from the stranger, who was clearly stronger invested in this topic, emotionally even perhaps. "You do not trust the appropriate authorities to take care of the Plasma problem then, hm? Are you interested in vigilantism then, or what?" Viola's questions were deep digging of course, trying to figure this man out. Something told her he was hiding much more than he would care to admit. The scientist chooses to remain calm as she studies him and takes note of his little falter at the very end.
"No, you wouldn't do that. You have chosen a different path, haven't you?"

"However, I'm inclined to be on guard for any potential surprise or threat that might come up. Back home they very much still exist, so it would be foolish not to assume the same in this time."
In this epoch...? In this time...? Either this person is of interest or has eighth grader syndrome. For Nikolai's sanity, he should assume the latter.
For the sake of Plasma, he'll assume the former.

Admin Lang gave the man a long and deep pause, mustering his face. For all that was shallowly evident, it was that he was definitely trying to come off as pleasant, maybe even trustful. But her threat assessment brain implant was telling her otherwise.
While the value was not quite certain as this man seemed either particularly wellversed in the art of subterfuge and deception, or - Arceus forbid - genuine, there was always reason to be on guard.
The cybernetic scientist nodded, crossing one arm over her chest and resting her other's elbow upon it, resting the fist softly against her chin in thought.
"I don't doubt that individuals might be genuine with their claims of selfreform. However, reformation is a long process that needs to be checked upon regularly, and it's successrate is is anything but guaranteed."
Her communication brain implant checked back with the readiness of her pokeballs, just in case. All set.
"It's interesting however that you seem to know this much about Team Plasma, if you have nothing to do with them yourself. What reason has a civilian like you to learn this much about them?"
