Named by Dame Kelly Holmes and entering service with P&O in 2005 is the beautiful Arcadia. She is a mid-sized ship exclusively for adults and filled with as much refinement and entertainment as you would expect from a P&O ship. Carnival launches Carnival Journeys

Carnival has added another accolade to their itinerary with their new Carnival Journeys. These sailings will introduce longer voyages of 9-nights plus and give you the opportunity to visit some of the more exotic places in locales throughout the Caribbean, Central American, Hawaii and Mexico.

Partnering with local restaurants and chefs, guests can enjoy local and traditional cuisines with on board cooking demonstrations and, for a fee, the opportunity to dine at the chef’s restaurant on shore. There is also the option to accompany the chef as he or she visits local markets for regional specialities.

Keeping in with the local traditions will be the entertainment. You will have the opportunity to enjoy an assortment of folkloric performances both on board and on shore. They are also adding the “Throwback at Sea Day” where the whole ship will head back to 1987. With a fun day set in the 80’s complete with retro pool and deck games, old school dining options liked Baked Alaska on the menu, the gala midnight buffet and popular movies from that era.

They are also introducing the Academy of Fun giving passengers the chances to interact with the ships officers where they will share their expertise on topics ranging from cooking, arts and crafts, to digital photography and social media. There will also be special Q&A sessions being held throughout the voyage hosted by the ship’s captain so you can really connect with the crew and find out exactly what life on a cruise ship is all about.

Getting back to the family friendly ships with the amazing P&O Oceana. She entered service in 2002 and at 770,000 tonnes homes some wonderful features. She has several restaurants to enjoy, 4 pools and 10 places to drink. With a welcoming and informal atmosphere she is very popular with families. With lots of fun facilities for kids of all ages to enjoy you will never hear them complaining about being bored.

Some of the highlights are the very impressive venues such as the Yacht and Compass. This lounge has a large dance floor and is decorated with rich wood panelling, shiny brass and comfy leather chairs setting a very romantic scene. Carnival LIVE Summer/Autumn Line-up Announced

Carnival has announced the new entertainment line-up for this summer and autumn and it is looking amazing. The Carnival LIVE entertainment option provides guests with an opportunity to enjoy concerts by major musical artists whilst docked in certain ports.

The summer/autumn series will see huge stars like Lionel Richie, The Band Perry, Boston and Heart joining the line-up. Currently the spring series, which started last month, features performances by Journey, Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town, Smokey Robinson and Styx.

Capturing a new level of entertainment, the concerts will take place in the main theatres so you will be able to see some of your favourite artists in a more intimate setting with maximum capacity ranging from 900-1300.

The concerts will take place on Carnival ships while they are docked in Cozumel, Nassau & St Thomas. The show dates are as follows:

Grammy award-winning trio The Band Perry will perform on 28th-30th July on Carnival Sensation, Carnival Fascination and Carnival Magic respectively whilst docked in Nassau.

Rock superstars Boston will perform on 19th-22nd August on Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Sensation and Carnival Ecstasy respectively whilst docked in Nassau.

Multiple Grammy and Oscar award-winning Lionel Richie will perform on Carnival Freedom on 14th October and Carnival Pride on 15th October whilst docked in Nassau.

Rock group Heart round up the series performing on Carnival Paradise on 20th October and Carnival Ecstasy on 21st October and Carnival Breeze on 22nd October.

Ticket prices range from $35 to $75 for general admission and from $125 to $250 for VIP tickets which also include a photo opportunity with the artist and a commemorative concert pass. The current spring itinerary line-up is available to view on the Carnival website.

The newest of the Cunard fleet is the Queen Elizabeth. She was officially named by HRH Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 and took her maiden voyage to the Canary Islands shortly afterwards. She is slightly larger than the Queen Victoria and carries up to 2,092 passengers. Modern in décor but with an added elegance, she has a host of wonderful features to enjoy on board.

The Garden Lounge is a light and sociable room inspired by the glass houses of London’s Kew Gardens, where you can spend a few hours relaxing and enjoying some afternoon tea or reading a book. Come the evening you can return for live music, dining and dancing.

The smallest of P&O’s ships is Adonia. Exclusively for adults she is designed for a more intimate cruising experience. She carries just 710 passengers and her small stature means she can explore ports that the larger ships cannot.

A family friendly ship, P&O Azura is one of the larger ships in the P&O fleet. With a huge assortment of bars, restaurants, sports and spa facilities and entertainment there is never a dull moment on Azura.

Construction of the ship began in 2008 and she was formally handed over on 26 March 2010. Her maiden voyage began on 31 March 2010 when she departed from the Fincantieri shipyard to Southampton.

At the heart of Azura is her impressive Atrium. Located over three decks, the atrium is a hub of social activity with a café, art gallery, bookshop, library and shops. In the evenings the atrium features a polished wooden dance floor so you can dance the night away.

In total the ship has eleven restaurants and eating areas and twelve bars and places to drink including Sindhu, an Indian restaurant with a menu devised by Atul Kochhar. Another of the more notable restaurants is Seventeen where you will find a selection of much loved classic dishes using the finest organic ingredients. P&O Cruises has just released a press statement regarding the upcoming naming ceremony of the Britannia. it says

P&O Cruises is pleases to announce that Her Majesty the Queen accompanied by his Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, will name the new P&O Cruises the Britannia at Ocean Terminal, Southampton, on Tuesday March 10th 2015.

The biggest ship designed exclusively for Britain, Britannia is P&O Cruises latest “modern classic“, heralding a new era of holiday choice.

We are honoured and proud that Her Majesty will name Britannia almost 20 years after she names the P&O Cruises ship the Oriana.

“Brittania, a ship for the nation, will be the embodiment of contemporary Britain, and with her Union Jack Livery she will fly the flag for Britain around the globe” Carnival UK Chairman David Dingle

The naming will be a milestone in British Maritime history and will be an event of great national interest. Please do share this news with your colleagues and customers which are sure doing.

Crystal Cruises return to Alaska for 2016

Crystal Cruises have just announced that they are returning to Alaska for the first time in over 5 years.

The Ultra All Inclusive Luxury line and voted best cruise line 21 years running by Conde Naste is putting their flagship the Crystal Serenity into the region for 3 cruises between Vancouver and Anchorage.

The cruises start on June 19th and the last cruise is a 10 nighter on the 17th July between Vancouver and Vancouver.

Crystal unlike many of their competitors have full permits for Glacier Bay so can really get into see this awe expiring land.

Planning ahead: What to do before you cruise

Whether it is your first cruise of whether you are a seasoned traveller, you still have time to fine tune your trip before you board. Our customer service team highlights a few important items to check before you go.

Your cruise personaliser

Most cruise lines now have an online cruise personaliser that you should complete before you travel. This gives you the opportunity to complete all of your personal details before you go including passport details and emergency contact details. You can book shore excursions, view any flights (if they have been booked as a package) and check in online. Once you have checked in online, you can also print off your luggage labels. Tickets and documentation are normally available 14 days before you are due to go although you can sometimes get these earlier depending on the cruise line.

Your flights

Depending on the package you have booked will depend whether you are flying somewhere to cruise or whether you are starting from a UK port. Flights can be booked as part of a cruise package or separately to ensure you get the best price. It is essential that you check your luggage allowance for your flights before you go. Although some cruises do not restrict you on weight and the amount you take, some airlines will have limitations and you may find yourself paying for the excess luggage.

You can check in online for your flights between 24-48hrs before you are due to travel. You can select seats when you check in and some airlines allow you do this much earlier although they normally incur a charge for early seat allocation.

Visas

When you book a holiday you should check whether you require a visa for travel. The USA require you to complete an ESTA and these are easily obtained by completing an online form. However for places a little further afield you may have to attend an interview. Your travel agent can advise on the type of visa that you require or you can contact the relevant embassy.

Documents and accommodation vouchers

The main documents you require will be your boarding passes, e-tickets and also your accommodation vouchers which will be sent to you either by post or email. Please ensure that you take all this documentation with you so you do not encounter any problems during your trip.

Brittania baking keeps getting better

If there are any Great British Bake Off fans out there then you will be very pleased to hear that Baking Queen Mary Berry has been added to the long list of celebrity chefs who will be aboard P&O Brittania as part of their on-board cookery school.

There are now 10 celebrity chefs who will be sailing on Brittania throughout the year. Not only will they be taking part in cookery classes, they will also be hosting exclusive chef’s dinners and participating in Q&A’s and book signings.

The full line up of chefs is as follows:

Nathan Outlaw

Based in Cornwall, Nathan is a Michelin star chef with two restaurants and a pub in Rock Cornwall; a restaurant in Port Isaac Cornwall and a restaurant in London. His main focus is British Seafood and his dishes feature fresh local Cornish produce. He will be travelling on the Portugal, Spain & Morocco cruise departing 28 March.

Pierre Koffmann

Michelin star chef Pierre won three Michelin stars at La Tante Claire, Chelsea and now runs Koffman’s at The Berkeley, London. His preferred dishes are the Gascon style food that he remembers from his childhood. His will be travelling on the Spain, Monaco & Italy cruise departing 13 June with James Martin and Charlie Turnbull.

Mary Berry CBE

A household name and famed chef and food writer, Mary Berry will be offering her baking expertise aboard Brittania. As well as being a judge on the Great British Bake off, she also filmed a solo show called Mary Berry Cooks which aired in 2014. Mary will be travelling on the British Isles cruise departing 6 July with James Martin and Theo Randall.

Theo Randall

Proprietor of Theo Randall at the InterContinental Hotel London Park Lane, Theo specialises in Italian cuisine. He was awarded a Michelin star whilst working at The River Café in London. He will be travelling on the British Isles cruise departing 6 July with James Martin and Mary Berry.

Lawrence Keogh

Head Chef at the Wolsley restaurant in London, Lawrence is also a regular guest chef on Saturday Kitchen. He has also written two recipe books, one of which concentrates on food for kidney care following his own kidney transplant at the age of 35. He will be travelling on the Norwegian Fjords cruise departing 18 July.

James Tanner

English chef and TV personality, James is best known for co-owning the Tanners Restaurant in Plymouth with his brother. They also own The Barbican Kitchen in Plymouth. He will be travelling the France, Spain & Guerney cruise departing on 8 August.

Vivek Singh

A London-based Indian chef, restaurateur, and media personality known for his modern take on Indian cuisine. He owns three London restuarants – The Cinnamon Club, Cinnamon Kitchen and Cinnamon Soho. He will be travelling on the Spain, Monacco & Italy cruise departing 15 August.

Daniel Galmiche

Michelin-starred chef at The Vineyard, Daniel is a modern French cuisine chef. He also regularly appears on Saturday Kitchen. He will be travelling on the France, Spain & Guerney cruise departing 5 September.

Antonio Carluccio

One of the best Italian chefs, food writer and much loved TV personality. He is best known for his TV series Two Greedy Italians with fellow Italian chef Gennaro Contaldo. He will be travelling on the Spain, Monaco & Italy cruise departing 9 October with James Martin and Charlie Turnbull.

Paul Rankin

From Northern Ireland, Paul achieved a Michelin star for his restaurant Roscoff. He now regularly appears on Ready, Steady, Cook and other shows such as The Great British Menu. He will be travelling on the Portugal and Caribbean cruise departing on 23 October with Eric Lanlard.

A very Berry boost for Britannia as baking queen joins Britain’s only cookery school at sea

Baking queen Mary Berry will head a line up of the UK’s best loved chefs hosting cookery lessons onboard P&O Cruises new ship Britannia this year.

10 celebrity chefs will be on a number of Britannia’s sailings throughout the year during which they will run cookery classes, host exclusive chef’s table dinners, participate in Q&A sessions and book signings. The full line-up is as follows:

•Nathan Outlaw – holder of four Michelin stars in total, two at Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, Port Isaac, Cornwall, and one each at Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen, Port isaac and Outlaw’s at The Capital, Knightsbridge. Nathan is travelling on B503, a 14 night Portugal, Spain & Morocco cruise departing March 28. Prices from £1,549 per person

•Pierre Koffmann – legendary French-born chef who achieved three Michelin stars at La Tante Claire and now runs Koffmann’s at The Berkeley, London. Pierre is travelling on B510, a 14 night Spain, Monaco & Italy cruise departing June 13 with James Martin and Charlie Turnbull. •Daniel Galmiche – Michelin-starred Executive Chef at The Vineyard in Berkshire, a pioneer of modern French cuisine and TV chef. Daniel is travelling on B519, a seven night France, Spain & Guernsey cruise departing September 5. Prices from £799 per person.

•Antonio Carluccio – a much-loved chef and food writer who is regarded as the godfather of Italian gastronomy. Antonio is travelling on B523, a 14 night Spain, Monaco & Italy cruise departing October 9 with James Martin and Charlie Turnbull. Prices from £1,149 per person.

•Paul Rankin – celebrity chef from County Down who became the first chef from Northern Ireland to be awarded a Michelin star. Paul is travelling on B524, a 14 night Portugal & Caribbean cruise departing October 23 with Eric Lanlard. Prices from £1,139 per person

The two-hour classes will cost £100 per person (or £200 per person when hosted by two chefs) and take place in The Cookery Club, a dedicated cookery school with 12 stations for up to 24 people to create culinary masterpieces. Bookings open four months before departure via Cruise Personaliser.

P&O Cruises is also working with two other culinary great names in The Cookery Club; KitchenAid and Robert Welch.

In order to provide guests with a truly professional experience, KitchenAid will be kitting out the area with the very best appliances including the iconic Artisan Tilt-head Stand Mixer coveted by leading chefs and passionate home cooks.

The Cookery Club will also feature a range of knives by renowned British design company Robert Welch, which has worked with professional chefs to develop one of the best knife ranges available in today’s market.

Our Signature Knife Range has been developed with the help of professional chefs and it will be a great opportunity for cookery school attendees to learn knife skills under the guidance of real experts using the perfect tools.”

The New Carnival Vista revealed

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the worldwide gala reveal of Carnivals new ship the Carnival Vista.

The reveal was collaborated with the US and all of the new transformations being revealed at the same time around the world. So whats new pussycat?

The Vista will be the largest ship ever built for Carnival Cruises and will hold 3900 guests. The emphasis is combining the world world acclaimed Carnival 2.0 program and add some enhancements. So all fo the old favourites will be on the Vista including Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse(Best at sea in my opinion), The Red Frog Pub, George Lopez club and waterworks the largest water parks at sea.

So what is different on the Vista, more open and out door spaces including an improved sports square. Havana staterooms which combine indoors and outdoor living space. These cabins also have their own dedicated lounge.

Other exciting creations include the first IMAX cinema at sea and the waterpark has got even bigger and better. As well as the usual water slides a new creation called the Kaleid – o – slide has been squeezed in as this 455 foot long slide and this is Carnivals first ever tube slide.

As well as the famed sky climb course, the Vista will have the first sky ride. Race your loved one on a bike around the 800 foot long track suspended a mere 150 foot above sea level.

The most exciting part for me was where the Vista is going to be based. The Vista is coming into the Mediterranean and will be their only ship based here.

The maiden voyage is Trieste to Barcelona for 12 nights on the 1st May. There is then another 11 nine day cruises between Athens and Barcelona.

When's the best time to get the all important Cheap Cruise?

A question we get asked a lot.cheap cruises. Well there is actually no definitive answer but we will give you our expert advice on when to book and when not to .

The first thing we should say, if you are happy with the prices you are paying for the holiday so be it. There is a good chance the price will go up but all you hear is the smart Alec at the dinner table boasting how little he paid for the cruise. In our opionion he is normally lieing or it is not on a like for like basis.

So when is the best time to book. If there is a particular cruise you are after and its a special occasion we would suggest booking early. Especially if you are looking for a particular cabin or cabin grade. This is specially important if you are booking Christmas cruises or Summer holiday cruises as these do have a tendency to sell out very quickly and the prices do go up.

However if you are a little more flexible we would suggest booking around 6-9 months out depending on the cruise that you are looking at. Many of the holidays we sell are tailor made, this is where we source the flight, cruise and hotels and put the package together for you. What often happens is the flight prices go up and the cruise price comes down nearer the time. Invariably you should then look to book in advance as often the best flights have gone and your flight could have some longer layovers than required.

So if you are looking for a cheap cruise we would suggest booking approximately 6 to 9 months out to get the best possible deal.
