“whoa. are you not appreciating how hot princess leia with me? i expected more from you, my dear sir.”
“ no, trust me. i appreciate it. princess leia was my first crush, okay ? “
“so my mom called me on facetime today and yelled at me because i said i couldn’t talk because star wars was on and it was the part with princess leia in the gold bikini. i mean–i think that’s a good reason to want to hang up, don’t you?”
“ whoa. are you ---- are you sexualizing princess leia ? i expected better things from you, blondie. “
“Yeah… No. I don’t really encourage peace since people tend to be stubborn as fuck. I would like peace around the world, but I already know that’s not going to happen anytime soon, so I’d rather not waste my time. –Twenty. What about you?”
“ there’s way more important things than peace, anyway. besides, you can’t have peace without a war and everyone’s too afraid of that part cause it wouldn’t be in some far off land people either romanticize or disregard. it’d be right here, and all the rich, blonde moms named deborah would lose their mind and then their husbands, all coincidentally named rich, would buy the peace. that makes it not real, so. ---- but, anayway, i’m twenty, too. like, twenty, also; not twenty-two, the age. “
waiting until he was getting into the car, she opened her door and slid into the passenger seat. naturally she pulls the seat belt over her small frame, clicking it in place. “alright. you turn on fifth from main. the second red light you turn left. take that road about a mile and you hit some hills with these bigger styled houses. we want the house that’s addressed 536.” her shoulders lift and she slips off her sandal and pulls her knee up to her chest, getting more comfortable.
nate looks over at the girl when her knees hit her chest and his eyes are probably far too focused on her rather than the road, but it’s late enough that there aren’t too many people out, so he’s not too concerned. “ you ---- you’re adorable, you know that ? “ he comments out of the silence. he follows her directions the best he can, though he has to reconfirm which red light to turn at, but the two of them get there in good time. nate finds a place to park with ease, assuming most people are out. “ you said 536, right ? “ he asks, despite that they’re already parked in front of it.
“oh yeah?”
“ yeah. what, you don’t --- ? are you not ? “
yeah. there was the pool out back. but there was already twenty or more drunken souls in it. some of them, she not so sure would make it out of the pool without getting sick. she’d pass on that one. “great.” she turned back around, spotting the red car and jogged towards it, moving around to the passenger side and looking up at him over the hood. “we’re going over to hemlock. do you know where that is?”
nate had to pick up his walking pace, but her jogging and his walking were about the same distance covered. he stood at 6′1″ and she couldn’t have been taller than 5′6″, so her smaller legs carried her half the distance. it was cute, and he smiled as he opened his own door. it disppeared, however, when he shook his head. “ uh, no. honestly, i don’t know shit about this side of town. kinda just showed up for the party. but are you any good with directions ? “
“i hope that’s not your only philosophy on women. however, it did work. i’ll give you that.”
“ well... does depend on how adventurous we’re both being. some girls are into that. “
“sure–sure. but i guess i was expecting more. perhaps some other time though?”
“ aha, see ? it worked. always leave ‘em wanting more. “
.
mickey pursed her lips. pool. she knew where one was, an old home that she had admired fro the outside that was up for sale. the pool was blocked in, but the lock to the gate was broken. with a grin, her brows raised and she walked backwards towards where the cars were. “bad for the hair, but ood for the soul. - did you drive? i don’t want to take the car since my sister is still in there.” chocolate hues flashed with mischief, finally excited for the night.
nate thought there was a pool here at the party. that would’ve made things easier. but, fortunately, they get their own pool because as non-resourceful as he is, she isn’t, and she seems to know exactly where they can go. he grins. " conveniently, i did. yes. " he points a little ways down the street. " it's that red one, there. "
“oh yeah? i won’t believe it until it happens though.”
“ wh ---- are you not absolutely overjoyed just by this conversation ? “
“ oh, i love dancing !! and this music is the perfect kind to do so. did you just call me pretty ?? ”
“ wh --- yeah, i did. what, are you surprised ? tell me you’re not one of those girls who doesn’t know how pretty she is. ---- that sounds like a gross line, but it’s not. “
“Fuck off, I’m still pretty fresh out of prison I forget the world didn’t stop,” he laughed, shrugging a shoulder. “Bit of both. I don’t know. I got to know my – I don’t know what she is - someone I’m seeing, I met her ex. We were very hateful toward each other and then all of a sudden one night we just… Nevermind, this isn’t helping my I am straight case.”
“ uh, whoa. hold on; back up. you slept with your ex’s boyfriend ? or... “
“We’ll see about that, contender. I’m Cora by the way, do you know how to shuffle cards?”
“ i’m nate. and, c’mon, cora, what kind of person would i be if i didn’t know how to shuffle cards ? i mean, how can i expect to beat you in uno if i can’t even shuffle the deck ? hand it over. i got this. “
Rhys chuckled. “Yeah, I haven’t looked at all. I don’t even know why I’m here if I’m too reluctant to even talk to any girls.” This was only partly true. The reality of it was that he was more reluctant to admit that he only attended the party on strict orders from his boss.
“ yeah. wh ---- are you, like, one of those shy guys ? like, you don’t know what to say to girls ? “
she can feel the beating of his pulse under her fingertips and she grins at him over her shoulder. “well, night swims are the best. and you seemed eager to get out of that party. so why not?” the girl let go of his wrist only to push open the door. “lake or pool?” she knew where both were.
nate watched her hand drop when it did, wondering if he’d get any other contact from her through the rest of the night. the lake was darker and probably more private, but also filled with animals, most likely, too, and there was nothing to kill the mood like a trout swimming between your legs. he gambled, hoping maybe the pool was closed off to most people. “ pool, probably. i hear chlorine’s good for the soul. “
“that’s what i was goin’ for. i really don’t know what i’ve roped myself into, but i’m hoping you’ll make it all worth my while.”
“ hey, if there’s one thing i’m good at, it’s making it worth your while. “
