❝I find the folly of men amusing.❞
❝You would never forgive yourself if you were to choose me.❞
❝Our dead come for their vengeance regardless of witnesses.❞
❝I tasted the full truth of [Name]’s kindness; well trained and indebted, we would one day make him a fine army.❞
❝My chest trilled with something I could not quite name. Escape, and danger, and hope all at once.❞
❝I did not have to fear that I spoke too much. I did not have to worry that I was too slender, or too slow.❞
❝I did not mind that I lost when we raced and I lost when we swam out to the rocks and I lost when we tossed spears or skipped stones. It was enough to watch him win.❞
❝For who can be ashamed to lose to such beauty?❞
❝Do you want to be a god?❞
❝I’d like to be a hero, though. I think I could do it.❞
❝We were only twelve, too young to brood.❞
❝I promised myself that if I ever saw him again, I would keep my thoughts behind my eyes.❞
❝There is no law that the gods must be fair.❞
❝Perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone.❞
❝I would know his face in dark or disguise. I would know it even in madness.❞
❝There is nothing in the world I wanted more than to hear what he had not said.❞
❝I will never leave him. It will be this, always, for as long as he will let me.❞
❝If I had words to speak such a thing, I would have. But there were none that seemed big enough for it, to hold that swelling truth.❞
❝We were like gods at the dawning of the world, and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but each other.❞
❝Name one hero who was happy.❞
❝They never let you be famous and happy.❞
❝ He is a weapon, a killer. Do not forget it. You can use a spear as a walking stick, but that will not change its nature. ❞
❝I feel like I could eat the world raw.❞
❝I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.❞
❝When he died, all things soft and beautiful and bright would be buried with him.❞
❝Your hair never quite lies flat, here. I don’t think I’ve ever told you how I like it.❞
❝He would go, and I would follow, even into death.❞
❝It’s not true.❞ / ❝True is what men believe, and they believe this of you.❞
❝If you have to go, you know I will go with you.❞
❝No hands had ever been so gentle, or so deadly.❞
❝He is half my soul, as the poets say.❞
❝I wish for earthquakes, eruptions, flood. Only that seems large enough to hold all of my rage and grief.❞
❝There are no bargains between lions and men. I will kill you and eat you raw.❞
❝It is right to seek peace for the dead. You and I both know there is no peace for those who live after.❞
❝I want to speak of something not dead or divine. I want him to live.❞
❝We reached for each other, and I thought of how many nights I had lain awake loving him in silence.❞
❝When I am dead, I charge you to mingle our ashes and bury us together.❞
❝We are men only, a brief flare of the torch.❞
❝I am made of memories.❞
adventure-archaeologist:
Hadrian looked up, surprised. He hadn’t expected an answer, much less an honest one. “Quite a gift, then. And what, exactly, does the effect do? …though, if I am overstepping my bounds, please say so. I’m often the cat curiosity killed, but by this point I’ve learned when I’m beat.” He offered a charming smile, hoping to disarm any animosity at his nosiness.
“An inheritance,” Nettie said, reaching out to get his flute back expectantly. “It’s why they needed me to get my voice under control so young so quickly… not that I understood until long after they passed. I just thought they were very into band instruments.”
He tilted his head at the question. “I’m not sure I should say.”
Hadrian chuckled and handed the flute back, though not without a bit of disappointment. He should have liked to examine it further, understand it’s use…and the power of its owner. Regardless, he wasn’t nearly invested enough to risk bringing down the Piper’s ire and possessiveness of a family heirloom. There would be other times, he hoped.
“Of course, of course. Family secrets and all. It’s lovely nonetheless.”
agentsterling:

Hadrian smirked up at Erikson. “Why, Agent Sterling, inviting me to your home and we haven’t even had a first date? I didn’t take you for the type. I have to say, I’m very flattered,” he said, only slightly slurring his words together, then chuckled. “No, no, I’m sorry, I’m being naughty, and you’re trying ever so hard to be polite. I’m sorry.” He took a stiff, deep breath and straightened himself up a little, smoothing down the front of his shirt, and running a hand through his curls. Focus, Hadrian. “I’ll be good. My flat isn’t far. I’m in Greenwich.”
Sterling let his head drop in defeat of the joke, smiling to the ground a moment. He looked up when Hadrian had stopped speaking and shot him a smile.
“I’m happily married, good sir. Don’t get fresh with me. She’s a dangerous woman, my wife.” He joked back, carrying him along. “Close enough to walk or do we need a cab?”
“Ah, alas. I should have known someone as lovely as you would be happily wed,” he said. He was still flirting, but it was toothless, merely to illicit another smile out of the agent. “In normal circumstances, I would walk, but I think a cab might be in order. If you just pour me into one, I shan’t take up any more of your time.”
swordagentwarner:
She gave him a cold look, eyes briefly flashing to the badge before she shook his hand, her grip firmer than most expected from someone like her. She made a mental note to give whoever dropped the ball on communicating their joint operation a proper chewing out when she got back to base.
“Agent Warner.” Elizabeth let go of his hand and began pulling out a pair of gloves from her pocket, tilting her head towards the object she had been speaking about. “Astrobiology. That hunk of rock over there matches elements SWORD has been monitoring for months. I’d suggest not poking at it too much.” She finally gave him her attention. “Have you seen anything out of the ordinary?”
“An absolute delight, Agent Warner.” Hmm. A smile toyed at the corners of Hadrian’s lips. She certainly was all business. While he understood the importance of focus, of dedication, of handling things with the caution and care they warranted and deserved...one could never accusing Hadrian of taking things seriously. Obviously, Agent Warner did. He certainly wasn’t going to fault her for that, but he also wasn’t going to sink to her level of humdrummery.
However, if the artifact was alien in origin, that was cause for cooler heads and sharper minds. “Well, an extraterrestrial origin certainly answers a few questions I had about the material. I couldn’t identify it, and I was feeling very put out about it.” He slid his glasses back down his nose, looking over the rock. “In its behavior? No, ma’am, it passes the standard rock behavior exam with flying colors. In literally every other aspect? Yes.”
agentbrompton:
She took a long sip of her drink and chuckled. “It’s necessary sometimes, aye? …we work terribly hard and deserve it. Bless Sterling for organizing these things, although I don’t get out to enough of them.”
She smiled to him and nodded. “It’s a grand night, no complaints. And forgive me, I don’t know if I have your name? …I know I’ve seen you about, in the cafeteria…my name is Hazel outside of that building.”
Hadrian stood up straight, stubbing out the cigarette. “Forgive my rudeness. Hadrian Goswami, at your service, Hazel.” He flashed a crooked smile, carefully crafted to be charming, but genuine at the core. “I’m in the archaeological department. We’re a small subset, but mighty.”
He quirked an eyebrow as he listened. “And may I say, how nice it is to hear the dulcet tones of my adopted homeland? Where in the UK are you from, my dear?”

“STOP!” Elizabeth’s voice boomed as she approached, flashing her badge as she got closer. “That item is now the property of SWORD. I need you to release it.”
Hadrian looked up, pushing his glasses up to his forehead. “My apologies, I didn’t realize. SHIELD Archaeology.” He flashed his badge in return, a warm smile dancing across his face. “I was called in to look this over, I didn’t realize this was a joint operation. Agent Hadrian C. Goswami, at your service.” He extended his hand.

Hazel grinned and shook her head, tapping a nail against her drink glass. “That’s kind but I’m good for now, thank you. Are you having a good time tonight?”
Hadrian grinned and leaned against the bar, eyes fixed on her. “A lovely time, thank you. No matter where you are in the world, there’s nothing as comforting and nostalgic as getting absolutely pissed at a pub and singing loudly and off-key. Reminds me of home. And you, my dear?” He asked.
agentsterling:
Sterling caught him quickly. If years of carrying Barton’s drunk ass around had taught him one thing it was how to recognize when someone was about to fall and how to not listen when they said they were ok.
“Nope. Nope. We’re getting you home. Either mine or yours. Depending on quite how far you are.” He chuckled. He needed to know if he needed to keep an eye on his friend or if he could trust them to function enough to survive the night alone.
Hadrian smirked up at Erikson. “Why, Agent Sterling, inviting me to your home and we haven’t even had a first date? I didn’t take you for the type. “You’re really cute when you’re mad.”
Hadrian’s brow furrowed intensely, and then he laughed, his face immediately lightening. “Oh really? And what makes you think I’m angry?”
👂
“Yes, I know who he is. I know what he traffics in. But this is my job. I choose my people. And I pick him. You trust me? Good. Because I trust him, so there should be no issue, now should there?”
Send 👋 for three things that describe our muses relationship.
I’m going kind of conceptual with this…
Fresh baked croissants from the bakery down the street from their apartment
Long evenings laying together, talking and sharing, with gentle touches and twinkling lights
Traveling the world, staying in beautiful hotels and (seeing her) seeing historic sights
Send 👂 to overhear my muse talking about yours.
He was on the phone with his mother, speaking Punjabi. Whether Wanda understood him or not was certainly a question, but his tone could not be mistaken…
She’s so clever, Mama. Clever and kind and beautiful. Her smile is like sunshine. And she deserves the world. I just hope I can give it to her.
