AIL 🕐📝
A sideblog by the mod of sketchbook-and-tony-adventures for readers to ask meta questions about the main blog, and for me to post concept art and miscellaneous drawings. Not where you ask the characters.
A: Every time someone asks me if the next comic is almost done, I consider killing off Colin the Computer for good.
Q: "Will [character] appear?"
A: No, until proven otherwise.
Q: "Will the main trio (Red, Yellow, Duck) ever show up again?"
A: No. Don't worry, they're fine, nothing is wrong.
Q: "Who is Penny/Tori/Coby/Dandy/May?"
A: Trash OCs. Penny is the pendulum clock woman, and Tony's amicable ex-girlfriend. Tori is the depressed tape-player. Coby is the old computer teacher who was dead for ten years, but is okay now. Dandy is a dandelion teacher that was deleted for second-degree murder, but he's okay now. And May is the talking objects' manager that can manifest into any object, but usually appears as a clipboard.
Q: "This thing happened that contradicted something that happened before. What's up with that?"
A: Adventures in Lurning has a very loose canon. A lot of it was being written as the web series episodes were still coming out, and much of it turned out to be pretty incompatible with with what I had made. So, stuff gets retconned all the time, either due to new official material, or if I no longer agree with something I wrote 7 years ago. The important things that will stay the same are characters and their relationships, but much of what specifically happened might not add up anymore. The idea of it happened, at the very least. AIL was a supposed to be a fun comedy blog and I'm trying to turn it back into one, so lore and tiny little things that might've happened or were said once aren't always entirely important.
Q: "Is THIS IS IT still canon/does it still matter?"
A: No, it's not canon anymore. Coby came back to life suddenly when she woke up in the woods. Colin doesn't like her because he's like those cats that don't get along with other cats. Spinach Can went to therapy and that's why she's doing better.
why is penny’s go-to strategy to grab onto a body part (wrist, throat) whenever she feels angry
The talking object people don't exactly have the healthiest reactions to anger. Sketchbook passive-aggressively pours paint on things, Tony screams, Colin screams, the Health Teachers murder, Lamp drowns people in oil, etc. So, I gave Penny one as well. Breaking wrists and going for the throat!
I've been contemplating this since this was sent to me. Tori doesn't like being touched, Phonograph is indifferent to it, Dandy's in a loving relationship, Penny and Coby have each other. I guess the answer is May by default. She's like sad wet cat right now.
I made a 2014 Gijinka Island in Tomodachi Life. I was going to make a joke comic about Shrignold making it, but I decided to expend the effort on trying to finish the next part of the comic instead. So, I might as well share the screenshots here. It worked out pretty well.
I can't tell you how much it hurt to make a perfect face for Sketchbook, but then had to reject it for The Bit.
Early concept art for the sixth dimension night clubbers. Some changed between this and the final product and some got added as I was drawing the comic. Probably the most fun doing character design I've had in a while, but actually drawing the club was Hell.
We may be approaching a point where I can start uploading parts of AIC #10. The whole comic isn't done, but since I have all the sketches and backgrounds done, if I work on it in chunks, that might prove less daunting. There would just be longer gaps than normal between parts.
The concept of this terrifies me, but that's probably the scars from the previous era of the comic talking.
process related question, how do you draw Tony as a circle so perfectly??? I mean I figured you just use the circle tool on whatever program you use or copy and paste layers but how do you draw Tony so well when he's in 3/4 angle youre so good at perspective wowie
Thanks! Yeah, I use the circle tool most of the time. Usually he has to face forward as to not look weird. But if I must turn him, I'll either just make a circle and warp it, or use the ruler tool is CSP, and make an oval that way and control the pen stroke thickness, then draw another line on one side so he has all his dimensions, depending on how good I actually need it to look.
hey, i was wondering, what specific orientation did you give penny?
i do remember you mentioning YEARS back that she is only theoretically interested in romantic relationships, but can’t remember the specific term or if I’m just misremembering
Love your work and commitment to the blog ❤️❤️❤️
Penny is bisexual and grey-biromantic. She likes to fantasize and gets intense crushes, but when the idea of committing to a relationship comes up, she hides in her room for a week hoping the problem will go away.
