15 seconds or less Take 15 seconds out of your day to time yourself on your phone and see what you can accomplish in 15 seconds. I did it at work today and only made it to the staircase. I'm on the 5th floor in my building. On a day to day basis, 15 seconds means nothing to most of us, but when you have to run to a bomb shelter in Sderot, 15 seconds is all you can rely on. Onward Israel took our group to go and visit Sderot yesterday which is just outside the border of Gaza. Just a short bus ride away, I stood half a mile away from the border between Israel and Gaza. Out of the 28,000 rockets fired into Israel from Gaza, Sderot has been hit by 8,700 of those rockets. The news can only tell you so much of what happens here in Israel, but what they don't talk about it the trauma that exists in cities like Sderot. If I could explain it all in one post I would, but it's simply just too much to cover. So instead I will leave you with this scenario to think about spoken from the head of security in Sderot: From the moment the first alarm goes off is when your stop watch of 15 seconds begins. At that moment, a mother of 4 children has to decide what two children will go to the bomb shelter and what two children will stay with her. Because in the end, there is just no time to get all the kids to a bomb shelter. Although a sad truth, people of Sderot feel proud of where they come from. It's hard for them, but they are genuinely happy where they live and life's they have built for themselves. Till next time, מיה ליאת
