Dream visit to the sanctuary, we got to see an ENORMOUS, wild male! We almost missed seeing this "VVIP" but luckily one of the rangers told us to hang out a little longer. We finally made it to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, we've been talking about visiting for years!! Wild orangutans are taken care of here, taught how to fend for themselves and eventually released back into the wild. This first area is where the youngsters are. The Mount Kinabalu trek was beautiful! It was an amazingly well-maintained trail. There were porters going up with over 100 pounds strapped to their backs, all headed up to basecamp! We’re finally putting our suitcases away after almost five months of non-stop travel! I went to three new countries in that time: Ecuador, Iceland and Korea. Now we’re finally moved into our new apartment in Seoul, and are starting a new chapter in life, hopefully full of many more adventures! Winter means the appearance of what I like to call my Smartwool Supersuit, which is the 150 base layer bottoms and the mid-weight top. I LOVE Smartwool, their products are incredibly warm and well-made, and I’ve had these thermal tights since my round-the-world backpacking trip in 2009. I’ve worn these exact tights to something like 30 countries, most recently Iceland. Sadly after 11 years they need to be replaced so this post is a love letter to @smartwool!! We love Ecuador!! We didn’t get to do the Galápagos this time. Tours can be pricey so we want to save up and do it next time we come back! Fun story: I thought all day the Spanish name for blue-footed boobies is blue duck “pato azul” which I thought was delightful.
