My partner and I are talking about next dog and we’re both on the same page so that’s exciting. We both want something kinda sporty and athletic. I guess we shall see what we end up with

I’m pretty sure that’s a greyhound, but it looks skinny even for one. You’re not supposed to see the dog’s hip bones. The spine also shouldn’t be quite that prominent. The dog is super cute, but also looks seriously malnourished.

You are right, Boone, owned by @kangals, is a greyhound. Greyhounds, like other sighthounds, were bred to be super fast, super efficient hunters. To do this they need as little body fat slowing them down as possible. It is perfectly healthy and normal for sighthounds to have noticeable ribs, hips, and even spine showing. 

The way to determine whether a greyhound is skinny and fit, or malnourished, is all in the muscle. When dogs become malnourished, their bodies break down muscle and become sunken in appearance. If you look at Boone’s shoulders and thighs, you can see some gorgeous muscle definition (there are also some beautiful recent shots on his owner’s blog that really show off his meaty thigh muscles). Malnourished or starved dogs simply do not have this built physique.

It does contain some possibly disturbing images of extremely neglected/malnourished greyhounds.
