Adults wanting their own spaces, both irl and online, is not adultist.

However, adults wanting for every space or most spaces to be child-free, rolling their eyes and cursing the parents whenever they see a kid being themselves at an amusement park or even a grocery store, are adultists. Sorry, but sometimes you're going to deal with us "undesirables." Nothing screams leftist like hating a marginalized group and wishing they were kept out of the public eye. Its not like they did/do that to black people, disabled people, trans people... no, its totally woke when you do it to kids, guys!

Not believing that minors should have their own space to be without supervision, especially for teens, is also adultist. Kids, especially older kids, can regulate themselves for the most part, and need to practice conflict-resolution skills as well as how to make safe choices when no adult is telling them what that safe choice is. A toddler? Don't leave them unsupervised for long, outside of when theyre sleeping, because thats peak fork-in-an-outlet age. A group of 9-11 year olds though? They can hangout home alone. A group of teens can definitely go out together, and if anything they should because since we don't have community-based living and are hyperindependent, chances are theyre moving out in a few years if they can and need to learn how to navigate the world without the guidance of older adults.

Stop telling me "just do what you can handle!" and "its okay to take breaks!" and "take care of yourself!" As if its that easy!

Its almost always about school, too. In fact, 9 times out of 10 its about school. If not more. And its not possible! I cant just do what I can handle because if I dont do something im punished! I cant take breaks because deadlines are often so quick I only have time to do things without breaks of any kind. And taking care of myself? Yeah, thats out of the question! I dont get time to sleep, im so stressed I barely have time to eat, and its all so overwhelming and exhausting I can barely get out of bed in the morning!

Im so sick and tired of parents and counselors and therapists telling me these things as if its that easy. Because its not. And theyre just brushing me off because "i did fine!" And "oh, itll get better" and "you'll realize these were the best years of your life when youre older" and of course the "other people have it worse"/"oh, youre just a kid. Try being an adult who works ahahah stupid kid thinks they have problems!"

This is adultism.

My little girl Lin is still enduring pain and struggling in silence… Today, she broke her arm from a simple fall because her body is fragile and weak and cannot تحمل even the smallest impact 💔

A child in the bloom of life, instead of playing and laughing, she is living days filled with pain and deprivation…
