anyway this is why one - dimensional rah rah girl power carter ladies bs grates my nerves like say some shit about the inherent difficulty of existing as a powerful, intelligent, capable woman within frameworks of power built and maintained to exclude and gaslight you while profiting off your hard work and rebranding it as their own or gtfo

anyway sharon's humanity ( and womanhood ) is one of the greatest strengths of her character it’s what makes her so relatable and enduring and honestly Very Real placed alongside fantastical superheroes etc but it’s also something she genuinely struggles with accepting and allowing because it’s also the thing that’s been most often weaponized against her in brutal, cruel, reductive, obnoxious ways

experience really doesn’t . . . sharon does this job for decades before she feels comfortable enough to not be 24/7 paranoid about having her competence called into question, it has nothing to do with her belief in her ability to get the work done and way more to do with an absolute lingering terror of being sidelined or questioned for reasons entirely outside her control because sharon’s ultimate fear is that it will be revealed that she has not actually earned anything she’s ever done but that it was given to her because of her last name or her associations or her looks or any combination thereof

sharon’s eyesight hasn’t ever been great, she wore glasses in school / contacts in college and then ultimately had lasik before before she entered the ops academy, but as she’s aged she’s come into a need for reading glasses usually just for close work ( computer things, when she’s knitting, etc. ) although you will not catch her dead wearing them while she’s working which means you will catch her with her nose a couple inches off the screens on the helicarrier + popping advil for the headache she gives herself doing so
