Her Eyes Were Blue (2)
The rescue helo left me. My supplies ran out days ago, and my only hope is to go out into that freezing cold and try and find something. Anything.
Diana, my daughter. Her eyes are blue. Such a deep, beautiful shade of blue. Almost like cobalt wading in an antarctic sea. Ripples of lighter blue, tiny flecks of amber. She's turning four soon. In nine days, actually. Hopefully I'll have this assignment finished in less. I haven't seen her in weeks, my poor baby. I miss her so much.
The only problem is, I'm starting to run out of food. Which isn't normally a particularly bad problem considering I could hunt for food in the nearby forest. But, uh, I think the research they sent me to do has had an... effect. On the wildlife. The smaller fauna are more aggressive, and the larger keep finding ways to end their own lives. They've willingly stepped into traps I've set for them. They found a cliff that hasn't been reformed yet. One even climbed up a large tree and used my radio mast as a method.
I repaired it, and I called for supplies and evac. My research is mostly done, but with the repercussions on the wildlife, not only will there be ethical issues but I might not be able to hunt for good food much longer. The smaller wildlife have all turned to carrion as a food source, refusing to eat their normal diets. Naturally, the herbivores died first.
I was instructed to light up the landing pad, but the floodlights were damaged by the suicidal animals. They all have some form of remains stuck inside. I let the evac crew know to come in daylight, but I don't know if they recieved it. Comms are patchy.
It's getting colder and colder while waiting for the evac crew. Whatever fucking research the higher-ups made me do has changed this area permanently. All the animals are killing themselves, now. None of the large wildlife are left. Everything's either dead or insane, and I reckon I might be soon. The lake froze over with unnaturally thick ice, so far my drill doesn't pierce. I'll have to ration whatever water I have left. The food's almost run out, too. I've stopped the research a day ago, but the effects seem irreversible. Even the flies buzzing around the corpses of the animals have begun apparently purposefully shocking themselves on one of my broken floodlights. One of the animal's bodies somehow gave the wiring a conduit for it to run, so it's like a massive bug zapper now.
I miss Diana. I miss my wife. I miss my dog. My supplies have run dry, so I can only hope the evac comes soon.
The rescue helo left me. My supplies ran out days ago, and my only hope is to go out into that freezing cold and try and find something. Anything. The lake seems to be solid ice now.
My fingers are turning blue as this is being transcribed. They're turning really, really fucking blue.
Her eyes were blue. I'll never get to see those beautiful blue eyes again.
Fuck you, Relacor.
