“Those candle flames were like the lives of men. So fragile. So deadly. Left alone, they lit and warmed. Let run rampant, they would destroy the very things they were meant to illuminate. Embryonic bonfires, each bearing a seed of destruction so potent it could tumble cities and dash kings to their knees.”
- Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings

What Sacred Games

It started with a whisper.
They say that when a prayer is answered it comes not in a mighty wind or devouring flame, but in a gentle whisper. Narcissa’s prayer was answered that night not by a surge of magic or valiant young champion but by the whisper of the Goddess commanding the shadows of death.
For such a priceless gift, she would have to pay. They would all pay.

Next Chapter Sneak Peek!
Hermione Granger could do anything.
At least, that’s what she told herself. Staring at the stacks of books laid neatly before her, glossy medical textbooks and dusty leather-bound volumes alike, she wondered if that was true. No. Healers be damned. She was Hermione bloody Granger and she could do anything.
…right?
Slowly drawing air through her nose, she closed her eyes and sat down. Starting with the comfortable, she picked a musty tome tied shut by a stiff leather strap. Maladies of the Mind, First Edition. She had read a portion of the classic healing text the summer after sixth year in preparation for— never mind that. There were more important things to deal with now. She pulled her wand from her hair, where it previously held together a frizzy chignon, and tapped it against the book’s edge thrice, just as the archivist had instructed.
