          guess who’s back, back again.  i’ve been on @cqnna the most recently but i’ve been re-vamping this blog behind the scenes & it’s now complete.  there’s been a complete muse overhaul & i’ve purged the majority of my posts that don’t pertain to characters i’m keeping — this list is a definitive one that won’t be changing in the near future as i want to focus & develop these specific characters instead of just listing ones i may or may not even have muse for. 

          this blog will be on a permanent slow activity status as my single blogs currently hold the majority of my attention  (  @cqnna  /  @spdysense  /  @waeslie,  although george is also on permanent slow activity considering the lack of fandom / interest  ),  but i will be making an effort to get back into writing here in the near future.  thank you for your patience  !

          CHEEKS  DAMP   /   NERVES FRAYED.   whole  body  shakes,  curled  as  it  is  in  foetal  position  beneath  the  enveloping  warmth  of  duvet,  nightlight  only  accompaniment.   hands  clamped  over  ears  as  they  are,  he’s  ignorant  of  sibling’s  quiet  entrance  to  bedroom   —   the  other  more  of  a  GHOST  in  comparison  to  klaus’  usual  rambunctious  behaviour   —   sudden  awareness  coming  from  mattress’  slow  dip  in  far  corner  from  added  weight.

          chest  stills,  fear  widening  eyes   —   he  daren’t  move,  daren’t  breathe,  even  though  position  is  painfully  obvious   —   until  ben’s  soothing  voice  cuts  through  the  silence  &  shaky  exhale  accompanies  body  sagging  with  relief,  sob  muffled  by  fist.   they  stay  like  that,  unspeaking,  for  what  feels  like  hours,  klaus  finding  solace  in  ben’s  unwavering  presence  while  cocooned  beneath  covers,  mausoleum’s  freezing  fingers  painstakingly  leeching  from  bones.

          slowly,  limbs  unfurl,  nightlight  leading  the  way  as  distance  towards  end  of  bed  is  manoeuvred  upon  stiffened  elbows.   when  head  finally  breaches  duvet  opening  &  eyes  blink  against  harsher  light,  it’s  clear  by  pallid  face  marked  by  dried  snot  &  tears   /   by  eyes  red-rimmed  &  swollen  that  he’s  worse  for  wear,  gaze  downcast.   distance  is  kept  even  as  legs  swing  over  bed’s  side  to  sit  two  paces  down  from  ben,  covers  still  lain  across  shoulders  kept  as  a  barrier  between.

          but  his  brother  understands.   understands  the  need  for  space,  for  a  lack  of  physical  contact,  &  he’s  more  grateful  for  him  than  he  can  ever  know.   yet  emotionally  drained  as  he  is,  there’s  little  gratitude  he  can  muster  at  that  moment  than  a  half-smile  directed  at  the  floor,  a  murmured  ‘ thanks ’  that  cracks  at  the  edges.   minutes  pass  before  eyes  finally  settle  upon  ben,  &  while  heart  rate  is  still  elevated  &  he  jumps  at  the  sound  of  the  house  settling  in  night’s  depths,  second  smile  is  more  genuine,  words  accompanying  even  more  so,   ❛   you           you  don’t  have  to  go  through  anything  alone  either.   ❜

          DISBELIEF  EVIDENT   /   WATERING EYES.   regression  to  teenager  goes  unnoticed  for  the  most  part,  focus  entirely  on  vision  of  one  lost  many  years  prior.   BEN.   lips  part,  name  exhaled  on  fragile  breath   —   naught  but  a  whisper,  not  yet  aware  that  throat  no  longer  bears  injury  sustained  by  violin’s  bow. 

          his  voice   —   his  actual  voice,  not  one  imagined  when  pondering  what  their  lost  brother  would  make  of  family  feuds   —   serves  to  spill  tears  that  had  hung  delicately  balanced  upon  cage  of  lashes,  marking  solitary  path  down  unblemished  cheeks.   a  laugh,  half  choked,  erupts  from  within,  &  smile  BLOSSOMS  immediate  &  uncompromising,  weight  she  didn’t  know  she  was  carrying  lifting  imperceptibly  from  shoulders. 

          ❛   ben                    ❜   this  time,  word  croaks  forth,  uncertain  hand  reaching  cautiously  for  fabric  of  uniform   ;   when  fingers  connect  with  blazer,  shaky  exhale  is  evidence  of  breath  held  for  fear  of  a  moment  TOO  GOOD  TO  BE  TRUE.   but  he’s  here   —   SOLID   —   beneath  tremulous  touch,  &  the  relief  is  instantaneous,  immediately  moving  to  pull  the  other  into  a  tight  hug,  the  gesture  conveying  thoughts  she  can’t  yet  put  into  words.

    (   i’m  so  glad  you’re  here.   i’m  sorry.   i  can’t  lose  you,  not  again.   i’m  so  sorry.  )

'you could have died.' don't mistake that for concern, it is a statement, unfeeling and simple. a string of words that make a fact it is barely an explanation. he would never be so careless to admit that he felt anything close to worry. - monocold :)

          CONSCIOUSNESS  REGAINED   /   PEACE  BROKEN.   awareness  comes  first  as  skin  prickling  with  roiling  heat,  fierce  ache  settling  behind  eyes  that  remain  stubbornly  closed  while  nausea’s  unwelcome  presence  subsides.   breath  shallow,  focus  singular   —   it’s  then  that  comprehension  dawns  &  a  choked  sob  disrupts  rhythmic  rise  &  fall  of  chest,  physical  pain  paling  in  comparison  to  reality’s  harsh  uncompromising  truth.

          he  was  dead.   he  was  dead  &  klaus  was  still  alive,  &  all  that  had  consumed  thoughts  was  the  unfairness  of  it  all   :   why  spare  the  fuck  up,  the  black  hole,  the  asshole  ADDICT  &  take  the  one  unwavering  beacon  of  light  their  patchwork  excuse  for  a  family  had   ?   why  take  his  best  friend  &  leave  him  without  a  tether,  left  to  float  in  the  darkness   ?

          so  he  had  turned  to  his  other  friends,  the  ones  secreted  away  under  floorboards  &  sewn  into  toys,  the  ones  that  NUMBED,  the  ones  that  helped  him  FORGET.   except  they  weren’t  enough,  not  this  time   —   so  he  sneaks  out,  avoiding  pogo’s  sharp  gaze  &  mom’s  lingering  presence,  until  he  finds  someone  willing  to  sell  him  something  stronger  for  the  $4.09  he  has  in  his  pocket,  an  autograph   (   dude,  my  sister’s  gunna  flip  when  she  finds  out  i  met  you   !   )   &  the  domino  mask  he’d  planned  to  burn  once  high  enough,  instead  given  over  as  payment.

          it  was  the  first  time  he’d  willingly  mixed  substances,  previous  caution  thrown  to  the  wind  in  light  of  recent  events.   OXY  TWICE  &  ECSTASY  THRICE,  washed  down  with  daddy’s  premium  vodka   —   a  recipe  for  disaster,  especially  for  one  not  yet  reached  adulthood,  but  he  needed  to  be  more  than  numb  that  night,  he  needed  to  succumb  to  OBLIVION.

          (   barely  an  hour  later,  concerned  citizens  are  knocking  frantically  upon  academy’s  door,  distant  sirens  a  haunting  sign  of  actions  taken  by  one  who’s  bed  lay  cold  &  abandoned,  traded  for  the  unyielding  ground  of  nearby  alleyway,  vomit-covered  &  unresponsive   ).

          now,  oxygen  mask  does  little  to  stifle  ragged  breath,  senses  overly  sharp  compared  to  previous  stupor.   a  familiar  panic  begins  to  crawl  unbidden  upon  spine,  mixed  with  vicious  self-loathing  &  anger  at  whoever  had  brought  him  back  from  that  tranquil  dark,  whispered  voices  beginning  their  ceaseless  bid  for  attention  the  final  straw.

          eyes  finally  snap  open,  fighting  to  clear  the  blurry  haze  settled  over  vision   —   props  himself  onto  elbow,  weak  fingers  scrabbling  for  drip  he  feels  driven  into  crook  of  opposite  arm  in  a  bid  for  freedom  until  they’re  halted  midway  by  a  vice-like  grip  encircling  wrist.

                                        YOU  COULD  HAVE  DIED.

          emotionless.   empty.   the  words  are  as  hollow  as  the  man  stood  towering  above,  &  it’s  all  klaus  can  do  not  to  yank  his  arm  free  in  REVULSION,  determined  not  to  give  his  father  the  satisfaction.   instead,  all  his  emotions  finally  boil  over,  culminating  in  a  laugh  bordering  on  manic  that  tears  wildly  out  of  a  throat  raw  with  suppressed  grief,   ❛   we  can’t  have  that,  can  we,  DADDY  DEAREST   ?   ❜ 

          lips  widen  in  a  mockery  of  a  smile,  all  bared  teeth  &  tense  jaw  that  looks  unsettling  upon  such  a  youthful  visage.   there’s  no  punishment  that  could  divert  words  now,  no  threat  heavy  enough  to  dampen  venom  that  spills  uncaring  from  within,   ❛   no                  can’t  have  two  of  your  precious  experiments             excuse  me,  CHILDREN,  die  one  after  the  other,  can  we   ?   it’d  be  a  SCANDAL   —   imagine  the  headlines   !   ‘ UMBRELLA  ACADEMY  DOWN  TO  THREE   :   REGINALD  HARGREEVES,  WORLD’S  WORST  FATHER   ? ’   ❜   a  giggle,  discordant  &  grating   (   heart  THRUMS,  adrenaline  coursing   ),   ❛   i’d  buy  the  shit  out  of  that.   ❜

          BLOOD  CAKED   /   DISORIENTATION  EVIDENT.   one  moment  fingers  are  scrabbling  at  briefcase  latches  in  a  bid  to  unveil  hidden  treasure  within   —   the  next,  world  tilts  &  air  crackles  with  blue  electricity,  shocked  inhale  frigid  &  static  filled.    momentum  is  halted  by  back  thumping  onto  solid  ground,  eliciting  a  groan  in  response   ;   legs  flail  momentarily  as  equilibrium  is  readjusted,  slippered  feet  waving  mid-air,  arms  still  clutching  object  that  caused  disruption. 

          ❛   damn  it                 !   ❜   outburst  is  automatic,  wide  eyes  finally  focusing  on  surroundings  in  more  detail.   heart   —   which  had  already  been  put  to  the  test  many  times  in  the  past  24  hours  thanks  to  prior  ABDUCTION   —   hammers  against  ribcage  in  mimicry  of  hummingbird’s  wing,  disbelief  colouring  pallid  expression. 

          words  are  barely  forced  through  lips  stained  red  with  own  blood  when  a  shuddering  BOOM  vibrates  beneath  hunched  form,  noise  breaking  through  the  static  that  bunches  between  ears  like  distorted  cotton  wool.   whole  body  flinches,  panicked  breath  only  exacerbating  tight  feeling  in  chest   —   briefcase  is  clung  to  like  a  lifeline,  the  one  semblance  of  normality  he  has  left  in  this  new  reality,   ❛   what                    ❜
