“Y’know, I’ve heard it said that burnt out flames shouldn’t be reignited,” Reaper half-growls. Jesse’s not really sure if he means to growl or if it’s what happened to his throat, turning his familiar smooth tones guttural and strange.
He hums in response, running his fingers over a slender, jagged scar on Reaper’s cheekbone. “For that, there’s gotta be a flame to reignite, sweetheart. We ain’t never been anything but friends before now.”
“There was that kiss,” he points out, stubborn and serious. It’s nice to know that some things don’t change, at least. “That’s something.”
“Not really. That wasn’t even a declaration of intent, that was a goodbye, an apology. I vanished into the great wild nowhere the night of.” Jesse carefully pushes Reaper’s hood back. “‘Sides, if that peck is what you call a kiss, we got other things to worry about.”
Reaper huffs through his nose, more Gabriel than anything else. “It meant something to me.”
“And I want this to mean something for us. I want this to stay something. Please, Reaper, Gabriel.”
“God, Akande was right. I really should have killed you the first time,” he pulls away from Jesse’s touch, moving to sit at the edge of the bed. It’s the only place to sit in this shithole of a safe house, but at least they’re safe for now.
“Then fucking do it. I’m here, I’m unarmed, and I’m pleadin’ with you to take me back like some- some maiden in a bad romance movie. I’ve been in love with you for too god damn long for this bullshit, Gabriel and I know damn well you ain’t shootin’ me-“
Reaper- Gabe? Jesse’s not quite sure now- lunges forward and for a long moment Jesse thinks he’s right and wrong: Reaper’s not gonna shoot him, he’s gonna gut Jesse like a fish.
Then they actually collide, Gabriel’s mouth against Jesse’s, all force and teeth and tongue. It ain’t pretty, not even close, but it’s everything that Jesse’s wanted for too long. He leans into it, presses his whole body against Gabriel’s and that’s the turning point from forceful to dirty. There’s still too much tongue for his liking, but Jesse moans into the kiss, helps Gabe take off his serape, slides his own hands into Reaper’s coat.
“Okay,” Gabriel pants when they finally break away for more than a second. “I want us to be a something. I want this to mean something too.”
Jesse smiles. “That’s all I’m askin’ for, love.”
Then he pulls Gabriel back down against him.
