Good afternoon. I am Mallence. And I come from the richest country in the world. It is located in the richest continent in the world, in the West of the richest continent. My country is called Sierra Leone.

On the surface we are blessed with infinite beauty and abundance of flora and fauna, producing the most exquisite harvests of coffee, cocoa, fruits, vegetables and a rich culture. You name it, we’ve got it.

We also have diverse wildlife and vast marine resources, and waterfalls, and rivers that run into the most beautiful beaches. The land is golden. Literally. A true paradise.

In fact, Sierra Leone had the first sub-Saharan university. Prior to that there was one in the kingdom of Timbuktu, which was the first university in the world, succeeding the great Gnostic schools of Egypt and Osiris.

This was the largest alluvial diamond ever found. It weighs almost a thousand carats, 969 to be precise.

Some people mine gold in their back yards. That’s quite common.

Besides gold and diamonds, we have about 20 precious minerals that have been discovered as of today. We recently started extracting huge petroleum reserves that have been discovered. We have platinum, ilmenite to make titanium, rutile to coat jets, iron ore, the largest iron ore deposits in Africa, the third largest in the world. Tantalite, also known as coltan, used in your mobile phones and computers. Bauxite for aluminum production, zinc, chrome ore, copper, coal, phosphates, potassium, salt, lead, granite, asbestos, nickel, zircon. Furthermore, we have exquisite timber, like mahogany and teak. And we have the most beautiful stamps in the world.

Of course the West needs Africa’s resources, most desperately. To power airplanes, cell phones, computers and engines. And the gold and diamonds of course: a status symbol, to determine their powers by decor, and to give value to their currencies.

One thing that keeps me puzzled, despite having studied finance and economics at the world’s best universities. The following question remains unanswered: Why is it that 5,000 units of our currency is worth one unit of your currency, when we are the ones with the actual gold reserves?

It’s quite evident that the aid is in fact not coming from the West to Africa, but from Africa to the Western world. The Western world depends on Africa in every possible way, since alternative resources are scarce out here.

So how does the West ensure that the free aid keeps coming? By systematically destabilizing the wealthiest African nations and their systems, and all that backed by huge PR campaigns, leaving the entire world under the impression that Africa is poor and dying, and merely surviving on the mercy of the West. Well done Oxfam, Unicef, Red Cross, Life Aid, and all the other organizations that continuously run multi-million dollar advertisement campaigns depicting charity porn, to sustain that image of Africa, globally. Ad campaigns paid for by innocent people under the impression to help, with their donations

While one hand gives under the flashing lights of cameras, the other takes, in the shadows.

Last year the IMF reports that six out of ten of the worlds fastest growing economies are in Africa, measured by their GDP growth. The French treasury, for example, is receiving about 500 billion dollars, year in, year out, foreign exchange reserves from African countries based on colonial debt they forced them to pay. Former French president Jaques Chirac stated in an interview recently that we have to be honest and acknowledge that a big part of the money in our banks comes precisely from the exploitation of the African continent. In 2008, he stated that without Africa, France will slide down in the rank of a third world power.

This is what happens in the human world. In the world we have created. Have you ever wondered how things work in nature? One would assume that in evolution the fittest survives. However in nature, any species that is overhunting, overexploiting the resources they depend on as nourishment, natural selection would sooner or later take the predator out. Because it offsets the balance.

Now that I shared my perspective with you, I would like to share my initiatives with you.

As a Sierra Leonean, I am a diamond expert. I find them in the rough.

What nature created from the darkest substance, under the influence of heat and pressure, transforms into the strongest, most brilliant rocks.

These rocks have the consistency to sustain an entire nation.

Mallence goes on to explain about the charity she set up to help street people from one of the poorest and most dangerous parts of Freetown, Sierra Leone turning them into international artists, engineers , lawyers etc. Her rocks are human intelligence and initiative.

Our present Projects

1. At present we have a Sierra Leonean author for whom AHIC funds the publishing of his book (This is a loan)

“The Sherbros of West Africa”, a book publishing project, about an industrious African tribe/people who are disappearing as they assimilate into neighbouring societies, written by an African author. This is part of our “Enlightenment” projects because it enlightens the reader (African or not) to the industrious nature of these amazing and adaptable people, and can inspire the next generation of great Africans.

2.. We have a second live project for a physically ill Malawian lady living in Manchester UK, AHIC has already pressurised an unwilling housing association to renovate the badly damaged structure of the lady’s premises, called in the pest control department to fumigate the premises and arranged with a local linked good neighbours befriending agency to visit her regularly . We have provided funds to insulate her home by carpeting her living room. And we intend to fundraise to carpet the rest of her home. (This is a grant).

3. A third project in conjunction with another Christian charity, providing clean water to 10 villages in Sierra Leone, to be proceeded with a kitchen gardening venture for villagers and a health or first aider within each village. Business loans for good ideas. This project is at final application stage requesting funding from DFID (Department for International Development). It was whittled down from 3000 applicant charities to 120 which we are proud to say we are one of. The next stage is to further cut down to 40 worthy causes who will then be given the finances DFID has assigned to them, so much prayer is needed as all 120 charities are very good candidates.

4. A fourth possible project may be in association with a local company in Senegal and the international firm Orange an osusu saving type venture(local African type of banking) using Orange technology. But this is at a very early stage of just expressing an interest, contracts and procedure, terms and conditions will need to be drawn for this venture. And it is hoped that we will assist with the company’s Sierra Leone venture to start with. This project will self finance itself with initial cost coming from the parent local company in Senegal. Our involvement will be to provide a large number of willing groups starting with the council of churches within Sierra Leone.

5. We also assist on a monthly basis a local Sierra Leonean charity that helps orphans from the EBOLA crisis that hit Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea in 2014, as well as giving shelter and foster care to abandoned disabled children. (This is a grant)

6. We are currently fundraising for a Christian Nigerian lady to achieve her dream of managing a school in Lagos dedicated to giving understanding and practical teaching to youngster as opposed to repetitive memorising learning that is prevalent in Africa but gives children no explanation or understanding of the concepts they are learning about. We need £2000 and we expect that 100 people giving £20 each should kick start this venture. In this Easter edition we would like to introduce you to one of our projects we are most proud of, our partnership with a local Sierra Leonean charity called the Jaisie and Sorba Children’s Foundation. As Easter is all about Love and Sacrifice we know you will appreciate the efforts of this charity founded by two brave young Sierra Leoneans who saw the need and cared enough to do something about it. Africa Hopes in Christ has partnered with a local Sierra Leonean charity called Jaisie and Sorba Children’s Foundation as this charity is in sync with our own core aims and is right in the heartland of where the need is greatest. Helping African help themselves

This little girl is called Therisa Dramine. She lost her two parents during the spread of the terrible killer disease Ebola. Ebola killed her parents and the little girl had nobody to help. For her to sustain her life she was working for other people within the community. A nurse working within the community felt pity for the girl and took her in but she couldn’t afford all her needs. So the charity stepped in to take care of her through the help of well wishers.

This boy has been deserted by both his parents because of his physical disability, his left hand is misshapen. As a result abandoned and lonely he was left to fend for himself with nobody to care for him because of his condition. He sometimes did not have food to eat and clothes were a luxury with the priority being somewhere safe to sleep. He was mentally astute and the charity saw his potential and stepped into his life. Despite his physical disability they realised that he has an alert mind and ability and they wanted to ensure his educational life.

These children are cared for by kind hearted but poor families who share all they have with them. Both the children of their foster families and the new additions are learning skills such as respect, consideration, generosity, gratitude and cooperation. However they do not attend school as this is too expensive for now. Would you find it in your heart to help these wonderful amazing gifts from God.

What can be learnt from the boot leather, organization and quick response times that stopped Ebola from spreading in this African nation Nigeria? By Katherine Harmon Courage on October 18, 2014

On July 20 a man who was ill flew on commercial planes from the heart of the Ebola epidemic in Liberia to Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. That man became Nigeria’s first Ebola case—the index patient. In a matter of weeks some 19 people across two states were diagnosed with the disease (with one additional person presumed to have contracted it before dying).

But rather than descending into epidemic, there has not been a new case of the virus since September 5. And since September 24 the country’s Ebola isolation and treatment wards have sat empty. If by Monday, October 20 there are still no new cases, Nigeria, unlike the U.S., will be declared Ebola free by the World Health Organization (WHO).

What can we learn from this African country’s success quashing an Ebola outbreak?

Authors of a paper published October 9 in Eurosurveilance attribute Nigeria’s success in “avoiding a far worse scenario” to its “quick and forceful” response. The authors point to three key elements in the country’s attack:

Fast and thorough tracing of all potential contacts

Ongoing monitoring of all of these contacts

Rapid isolation of potentially infectious contacts

There was vigilant disinfecting, port-of-entry screening and rapid isolation but also with boot leather and lots and lots of in-person follow-up visits, completing 18,500 of them to find any new cases of Ebola among a total of 989 identified contacts.

The epidemic that wasn’t

The arrival location of the index patient was a prime place to cause a widespread outbreak. Lagos is Africa’s largest city, with a population of 21 million. It is a major hub for travel and business. “A dense population and overburdened infrastructure create an environment where diseases can be easily transmitted and transmission sustained,” wrote the authors of a paper for the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention’s Mobidity and Motality Weekly Report (MMWR) As such, “A rapid response using all available public health assets was the highest priority.”

But, says Folorunso Oludayo Fasina, a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, co-author of the Eurosurveillance paper and a native Nigerian, it was actually lucky that the index patient in Nigeria fell ill at the airport. “Had the index case gotten the opportunity to contact persons in Lagos or Calabar—[another Nigerian city] where he was to deliver a lecture—it may have been a complete disaster.”

Although it took three days to diagnose Ebola (a period during which nine health care workers were infected with the disease), once the diagnosis was confirmed health authorities swung into action. The Federal Ministry of Health worked with the CDC’s Nigerian office to declare an Ebola emergency. On July 23—the very same day the patient was diagnosed—they created an Incident Management Centre (which morphed into the Emergency Operations Centre) and kicked into action an Incident Management System to coordinate responses. Such a centralized and coordinated system “is largely credited with helping contain the Nigerian outbreak early,” the MMWR authors wrote.

It wasn’t the Emergency Operations Centre’s first time tackling a highly infectious disease. Two years ago, after a global call from WHO, Nigeria redoubled its efforts to eradicate polio, another infectious virus, within its borders. The centre has played a large role in working toward that goal, improving response times and preparedness along the way, the authors of the MMWR paper wrote. Many of those leading the Ebola response were chosen for their success working on polio eradication.

The government’s first priority was to locate all potential contacts. A team of more than 150 designated “contact tracers” tracked down each of the individuals. Such tracing is the most challenging part of this sort of work, Fasina says, especially in Nigeria, where “houses cannot always be traced by street numbers.” With all of those potentially exposed to the virus pinpointed, workers conducted an astounding 18,500 face-to-face visits to check for fever and other Ebola-related symptoms in each of these contacts, according to data in the MMWR paper. The check-ups took a little cajoling, Fasina notes. To get folks to meet with tracers also requires a good deal of effort to remove social stigma around the disease.

Any individual showing symptoms was quickly moved to an isolation ward for further testing, which could be completed locally at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for rapid diagnosis. Once an Ebola case was confirmed, patients were transferred to a special Ebola virus treatment center. Even those contacts that tested negative but showed Ebola-like symptoms were held—separately from Ebola patients—until all symptoms resolved. As cases were confirmed the Emergency Operations Centre tracked down additional contacts and decontaminated potentially infectious areas.

In addition to contact tracing and rapid isolation, teams of “social mobilizers” canvassed areas around the homes of Ebola contacts, reaching around an additional 26,000 households with health information. Communicating that information effectively to the broader public is another challenge. Ensuring that people have confidence in the government—and understanding of what it is trying to do—is absolutely key, Vanderbilt’s Schaffner notes. Part of that is controlling what he calls “the outbreak of anxiety.”

In Nigeria the response team was able to corral enough funding, staff and tools from state partners, international groups and nongovernmental organizations to successfully launch its attack on the outbreak right away. “National preparedness efforts should consider how resources can be quickly accessible to fund the early stage of the response,” the authors of the MMWR paper wrote.

“Every country needs to evaluate its preparedness and must be ready to respond to an emergency immediately,” Fasina says. “Nigeria was not completely ready,” but they identified the index case early and then hit the streets.

Happy Valentine’s day to all dating couples, engaged and married. AHIC is particularly concerned about the state of the family unit. And we believe that the smallest unit of a civilized community is the family. Strengthening family ties, supporting Christian marriages and the upbringing of the next generation in a Godly and Christ-like manner is a necessity for all peoples including Africans. In this edition we explore a beautiful part of Africa called the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique situated on the south east corner of Africa ideal for a honeymooning, wedding venue or Valentine date weekend trips..

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of six islands in Mozambique, near the mainland city of Vilankulo. It comprises the islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Banque, Santa Carolina (also known as Paradise Island) and Shell. Nyati Island locates in further south.

Geography – The group belongs to the Vilanculos and Inhassoro districts of Inhambane Province. The islands were formed from sand deposited by the Save River, which has since shifted its course. Santa Carolina is a true rock island with deep channels and is just 3 km by 0.5 km in size. It has three beautiful beaches with coral reefs close to the shore. The island, also known as Paradise Island for obvious reasons is regarded as the ‘gem’ of the islands forming the Bazaruto Archipelago which is a proclaimed marine national park that boasts sensational beaches and magnificent scenery. Tourist attractions include sandy beaches, coral reefs, and opportunities for surfing and fishing.

Ecology

A Dugong in Bazaruto – The archipelago became a National Park in 1971. There is a wide abundance of reef fish, surgeon, Moorish idols, parrots, angel and butterfly fish to name but a few. Sea turtles, game fish and devil rays are regularly seen. Various endangered marine megafaunas, such as whale shark, manta, leatherback turtles, cetaceans including humpback whales, and the dugong. Bazaruto’s dugong population counts about 120 individuals, making it the largest of remnant populations in Mozambique. Cetacean biodiversity had been much richer than today before being reduced by human activities including illegal mass hunts by Soviet Union and Japan in 1960s to 1970s, resulting disappearances or rarities of many species such as the southern right whales. All live free in this conservation paradise, proclaimed a national park and recognised as a Gift to the Earth by the WWF. – References Ministry of State Administration. 2005. The archipelago has about 3,500 resident in seven communities. They are mostly very poor and rely on harvesting natural resources to survive. 70% of households rely on small scale fishing to survive, while others harvest sand oysters and other marine resources, grow crops and raise livestock. Resources may not be sufficient to maintain the population, leading to decreased catches of fish, reduced harvests and increasing poverty and food insecurity. Most of them belong to the ethnic group of Tsonga and speak a distinct dialect of the local language Xitsonga. … Women predominantly do small scale agriculture.

“Local native communities do not have significant participation. There is lack of participation in decision-making in tourism development. Only 18% of the native community islanders are employed in the tourism industry. Non-participation and lack of integration of native islanders in the tourism business deny them the chance of enjoying economic benefits accruing from the sector. Non-integration and lack of participation is attributed to illiteracy and deficiency in technical skills of the native islanders. However, the major reasons for exclusion are the private nature of tourism investment and the spatial pattern of social development into ghettos, coupled with unwillingness to transfer knowhow from tourism investors to the native islanders.

The researcher observed that the preservation and promotion of local culture in the development of tourism is only partially explored by tourism developers. There is little enhancement of cultural attractions, monuments, or architectural building style such as employing traditional styles in the resort complexes by building thatch-roofed chalets presenting interiors adorned with locally made handcraft. The study concludes that although there has been a failure to preserve the physical environment of the island, a production of waste, and over-utilisation of forestry resources, tourism development has had a positive environmental impact on the preservation of some indigenous plant species within the area”.

Welcome Prayer Warrior to our January 2017 edition, Wishing you all a victorious 2017 filled with God inspired wisdom. In this edition we consider the political stability Africa so badly needs for economic development. We ask you all to pray to the Lord Jesus asking for mercy, forgiveness for past mistakes and guidance and wisdom for the future. We pray the prayer in 2 Chronicles 7v14 “If my people , who are called by my NAME, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land”. The Message bible puts it this way “If I ever shut off the supply of rain from the skies or order the locusts to eat the crops or send a plague on my people,and my God defined people, respond by humbling themseves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives. I will be there ready for you. I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins and restore their land to health” The Lord has spoken so let’s do just that, pray for Africa, it’s politicians, it’s business people, it’s youth and it’s great Church. We start this edition by considering the wars that ravaged Africa in 2016 asking for the Lord to intervene and put an end to the castastrophe and dispair in those areas and we go on to look at the political elections that took place in 2016. 26 of out of the 54 countries in Africa had elections in 2016. This tells me that the Lord is shaking Africa up and changing things, we hope for the better.

With the exception of Syria, African countries currently get the worst rep when it comes to violence and conflict. Virtually every story coming out of the continent seems to showcase one atrocity or another. This narrative is both true and false. In 2014, Africa experienced more than half of worldwide conflict incidents, despite having only about 16 percent of the world population. This is a slightly larger share of the world’s conflicts than even during the chaotic years of the post-Cold War 1990s. But there are two important caveats. First, the absolute number of conflicts worldwide has greatly decreased over the last two decades. So despite shouldering a larger share of the conflict burden, in absolute terms, Africa has become more peaceful as well. And secondly, the remaining conflicts seem to cluster in specific regions and involve only a few of Africa’s 54 nation-states. According to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, twelve African countries experienced armed conflict in 2014. Three additional countries—Burundi, Niger and Chad—will likely be added to the list for the 2015 data Geographically Africa’s conflicts are tightly clustered along an arc stretching from northern Mali through southern Algeria and Libya into Egypt, extending into the Sinai peninsula. The Boko Haram conflict in northeastern Nigeria is another epicenter and situated in relative proximity to an area of conflict hot spots in the Central African Republic, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, South Sudan and Darfur. On Africa’s eastern coast, the Somali civil war is still going strong in its third decade.

Modern conflicts in Africa are thus highly localised , and they defy simplistic explanations based on stereotypes. That being said the conflicts tend to be religiously motivated such as the Nigerian Boko Haram that invoves Nigeria, Chad , Cameroun and Niger. The Mali, Algeria and Libya is also heavily thought to be Al Qaeda motivated. South Sudanese conflict seems to be based on racism and economic differences in status between Arabs and native Africans. The problems however in Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo are mostly economic with a multiple of international interests due to the rich raw materials concentration in this area with desparately poor people being expoilted and pitted one against another.

No list of conflicts in Africa would be complete without the catastrophes that Darfur in Sudan and Somalia continue to be. Darfur has experienced an uptick in fighting recently and there is no reason, certainly not the non-existing international attention, why this wouldn’t continue. We saw the Muslim Al Qaeda-aligned Al Shabab on the offensive in Somalia, pushinfg back some of the territorial gains made by government and African Union troops over recent years.

One country to watch is South Africa. While the second largest economy south of the Sahara will definitely not devolve into large-scale internal conflict, there are some worrying developments. The economy is going down the drain, President Jacob Zuma is appearing more inept by the day and racial tensions continue to run high—more than two decades after the end of Apartheid

We ask for earnest pray for these afore mentioned countries and that peace, honesty, love and self respect may be resumed and established within the African continent. That our Lord Jesus Christ may again be ressurected in the heart and minds of people of all walks of lives within Africa. We pray that Africa would not become easy pickings for the greedy and powerful within this world and that the African race whereever we are found in the world, (USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and indeed in Africa itself will unite with integrity, love and a determination to overcome our enormous problems.

These countries within Africa all had a political election in 2016, We pray this represents a change for the better in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ

Benin Presidential Election

Presidential elections were held in Benin on 6 March 2016, having been delayed by one week due to logistical constraints. Incumbent President Thomas Bon Yayi was at the end of his second presidential term and was constitutionally barred from running for a third. The elections grabbed the interest of many of the country’s top businessmen, resulting in over 30 candidates running for the presidency. A second round was held on 20 March, in which businessman Patrice Talon defeated Prime Minister Lionel Zinsou

Cape Verde Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in Cape Verde on 2 October 2016. Incumbent President Jorge Carlos Fonseca of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) was re-elected with 74.08% of the vote.

Central African Republic General Elections 2015-16

General elections were held in the CAR on 30 December 2015 to elect the President and National Assembly. As no presidential candidate received more than 50% of the vote, and following the annulling of the results of the National Assembly elections by the Transitional Constitutional Court, a second round of the presidential elections and a re-run of the parliamentary vote took place on 14 February 2016, with run-offs on 31 March 2016. The elections were delayed several times, the original elections having been scheduled for 18 October before being postponed, whilst the second round of the presidential elections was due to be held on 31 January 2016. Acting President Catherine Samba-Panza was not allowed to stand as a candidate. Following the second round of the presidential elections, former Prime Minister Faustin Arcange Touadera of the Union for Central African Renewal was declared the winner with 63% of the vote, defeating independent candidate Anicet Georges Dologuele, another former Prime Minister.

Chad Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in Chad on 10 April 2016. Incumbent President Idriss Deby was re-elected for a fifth term.

Comoros Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in the Comoros on 21 February 2016, with a second round to be held on 10 April 2016, alongside elections for the Governors of the three islands. Azali Assoumani of the Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros was elected President with 41% of the vote. This was a change of leader.

Democratic Republic of the Congo General Elections

General elections were originally scheduled to be held in the DRC on 27 November 2016 to determine a successor to President Joseph Kabila According to the constitution of the DRC the second and final term of President Kabila was to expire on 20 December. Many candidates including Etienne Tshisekedi, Freddy Matunguiu, Monique Mukuna Muiombo and Emmanuel Weyi had announced their intention to run, but the election was postponed until December 2017 after an agreement signed in December 2016. Praying for the people’s will and right to decide who rules them to be upheld

Djibouti Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in Djibouti on 8 April 2016. Incumbent President Ismail Omar Guelieh was re-elected for a fourth term, receiving 87% of the vote in the first round

Equatorial Guinea Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in Equatorial Guinea on 24 April 2016. In a vote initially scheduled for November but brought forward by seven months, incumbent President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo retained his office with 93.7 percent of the vote.

Gabon Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in Gabon on 27 August 2016. Incumbent President Ali Bongo Ondimba ran for re-election and was challenged by former Minisrter for Foreign Affairs Jean Ping. On 31 August, the electoral commission proclaimed Bongo’s re-election with a margin of less than two per cent. Protests broke out in the capital Libreville after the results were announced.

Gambia Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in the Gambia on 1 December 2016 . In a surprise result, opposition candidate Adama Barrow defeated long-term incumbent Yahya Jammeh. … Following the election, 19 opposition prisoners were released, including Ousainou Darboe, the leader of Barrow’s United Democratic Party (UDP).

Ghana General Elections

Ghana’s former President John Mahama hands over power to new President Nana Akufo Addo.

General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2016 to elect a President and Members of Parliament. … Former foreign minister Nana Akuffo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party was elected President on his third attempt, defeating incumbent President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.

Ivory Coast Parliamentary Elections

Voters in Ivory Coast went to the polls on Sunday in their first parliamentary election since 2000 on 18 December 2016, when former President Laurent Gbagbo came to power with his Ivorian Popular Front (FPI).

It is only a few months since the violence caused by Mr Gbagbo’s refusal to accept that he had lost the presidential elections died down and Alassane Ouattara took office as the new leader. Mr Ouattara has vowed to unite the country after the latest bloodshed

Republic of Congo Presidential Elections

Presidential elections were held in the ROC on 20 March 2016. It was the first election to be held under the constitution passed by referendum in 2015. President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who had exhausted the two-term limit imposed by the previous constitution, was allowed to run again due to the adoption of the new constitution. He won re-election in the first round of voting, receiving 60% of the vote. Prayer for integrity and against changing laws to suit individual circumstamces.

Soa Tome Presidential Elections

There were five candidates, including incumbent President Manuel Pinto da Costa, two former prime ministers, Evaristo Carvalho from Independent Democratic Action and Maria das Neves from the MLSTP/PSD, as well as two independents. Carvalho stood as the candidate of the ruling ADI, the party of Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada. Carvalho was initially declared the winner in the first round with slightly more than 50% of the vote, but Carvalho’s score was subsequently adjusted downward to 49.88%, necessitating a second round against President Pinto da Costa. However, Pinto da Costa refused to participate in the second round, alleging fraud and calling for a boycot meaning Carvalho was elected unopposed.

Seychelles Parliamentary Elections

Parliamentary elections were held in Seychelles from 8 to 10 September 2016. Three parties and three independent candidates ran for the 25 directly-elected seats. The result was a victory for the opposition Linyon Demokratik Seselwa alliance, which won 19 of the 33 seats. It was the first time since the 1993 elections that the People’s Party did not win a majority of seats.

Somalia Parliamentary Elections

The next parliamentary elections in Somalia was scheduled to be held in October and November 2016. The Upper House was to be elected on 10 October, with voting taking place for the Lower House elected between 23 October and 10 November 2016. They will be the first elections since 1984, and it was originally scheduled that the new Parliament will elect the President on 30 November. As of 1 December, the presidential election has not taken place, and approximately 89% of parliamentary elections have taken place, due to instability in the region. Prayer for the Lord to intervene and displace those hell bent on distruction and promotion for those with intelligence and good leadership skills.

South Africa Municipal Elections

The 2016 South African municipal elections were held on 3 August 2016, to elect councils for all districts, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the nine provinces. It was the fifth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994; municipal elections are held every five years. The ruling ANC was the largest party overall, earning 53.9% of the total vote. It was followed by the official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) with 26.9% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 8.2%. Popular support for the ANC fell to its lowest level since 1994, a shift which was most pronounced in the country’s urban centres. Despite marginal gains in some areas, the ANC lost control of three metropolitan municipalities – namely Nelson Mandela Bay, City of Twshwane and City of Johannesburg to opposition parties as a result of the election. The DA achieved its best local electoral performance so far, while the EFF, contesting its first local government election, improved on its performance in the 2014 generl elections. The local polls were widely seen a turning point in the political landscape of South Africa, as the dominance of the ANC was greatly diminished while coalition and minority governments became more widespread.

Uganda General Elections

General elections were held in Uganda on 18 February 2016 to elect the President and Parliament. Polling day was declared a national holiday. Presidential candidates included incumbent Yoweri Museveni, in power since 1986, Kizza Besigye who had run against Museveni in 2001, 2006 and 2011, former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi Abed Bwanika who has also challenged Museveni in 2001, 2006 and 2011, former Makerere University Vice Chancellor Venasius Baryamureeba, retired Army General Benon Biraaro, Joseph Mabirizi and former presidential advisor Faith Kyalya. Claims of rigging and violence at polling stations were reported and voting was extended in several locations after reports of people not being allowed to cast their votes. According to the Electoral Commission, Museveni was re-elected with 61% of the vote to Besigye’s 35%. Opposition candidates claimed that the elections were marred by widespread fraud, voting irregularities, the repeated arrest of opposition politicians and a climate of voter intimidation. The European Union and United States have since criticised the election for lack of transparency and detentions of opposition candidates. Overseers from the Commonwealth of Nations were critical of the misuse of state powers in favour of the incumbent.

Zambia GeneraL Elections

Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu has been re-elected, according to official results, which are being challenged by the main opposition party. The electoral commission said Mr Lungu had secured 50.35% in Thursday’s vote, just over the 50% threshold needed to avoid a second round under a new electoral system. His main rival, Hakainde Hichilema, who alleges electoral fraud, won 47.67%

Please pray against the devil’s plans for Africa in the form of Al Qaeda, Al Shabab, Boko Haram

Please pray for all the above new and old governments and presidents as a result of elections in 2016 and Africa as a continent to grow even more democratic, considering the will of the people to the benefit of all. My school motto was NON SIBI SED OMNIBUS – NOT FOR SELF BUT FOR ALL – May the coming generation hold fast to the ideals of democracy and hold their leaders accountable.

New Project

As well as our ongoing two projects previously explained in past newsletters

we have now started a new project to supply water to 10 villages on the west

coast of Sierra Leone, (the Sherbro area) a project which we believe will expand

into providing careers, businesses and jobs for the local villagers, lifting them

out of the circle of subsistence farming into profitable, viable income

generating co-operatives. However we are at the very early fact finding

stages, so a lot of prayer and financial help is required to make this project

a reality

We ask for prayer for Gambia as they successfully change leaders through a democractic election. We ask for honesty, wisdom, know how and integrity alongside compassion and Godliness for the new President Adama Barrow

We ask for prayer for the new Ghanaian leader after a hard fought election this December 2016. 1.At present we have a Sierra Leonean author for whom AHIC funds the publishing of his book (This is a loan) “The Sherbros of West Africa”, a book publishing project, about an industrious African tribe/people who are disappearing as they assimilate into neighbouring societies, written by an African author. This is part of our “Enlightenment” projects because it enlightens the reader (African or not) to the industrious nature of these amazing and adaptable people, and can inspire the next generation of great Africans.

2. A second live project for a physically ill Malawian lady living in Manchester UK, AHIC has already pressurised an unwilling housing association to renovate the badly damaged structure of the lady’s premises, called in the pest control department to fumigate the premises and arranged with a local linked good neighbours befriending agency to befriend and visit. We have installed a carpet for her previously bare boarded living room floor, ensuring warmth this winter.(This is a grant). And we intend to further carpet her hallway, and two bedrooms.

Potential projects in the pipeline are a clean water project in conjunction with an existing water charity already operating in West Africa, a school for street children and a competition for the best and brightest business ideas by young, up and coming African entrepreneurs.

There are over 180 million Nigerians world over and less than 250k of this figure have traceable criminal records, despite the efforts of the detractors of Africa and the Swiss banks and bribery offered and encouraged by the west. This is about 0.14% of the entire population in the last 20 years , USA with a population of approx. 320 million has a prison population of approx. 2 million – 0.625% and the UK with a population approx. 64 million has a prison population of 80k – 0.125%.. Nigerians are no more or less corrupt than western countries.

Well Done Sports men and women of color at Rio 2016

To our September Newsletter

In this edition we are saying well done to a few exceptional sports men and women of African origin during the 2016 Rio Olympics. But before that let’s report on what AHIC has been doing so far.

AHIC intends to help the ordinary people of Africa become efficient and highly successful entrepreneurs, as well as aiding the economy as a whole through infra-structure improvement. We all know that without a healthy population economic advancement is a myth so funding improved health systems is a must. Family life is also dear to us as we believe that attitudes and life choices are chosen and formed at very young ages within the family circle. So if there is to be a change for the better within African countries, it must start at family level. Hence we are prepared to set aside a large proportion of our grants for family support.

At present we have a Sierra Leonean author for whom AHIC funds the publishing of his book (This is a loan) “The Sherbros of West Africa”, a book publishing project, about an industrious African tribe/people who are disappearing as they assimilate into neighbouring societies, written by an African author. This is part of our “Enlightenment” projects because it enlightens the reader (African or not) to the industrious nature of these amazing and adaptable people, and can inspire the next generation of great Africans.

We have a second live project for a physically ill Malawian lady living in Manchester UK, AHIC has already pressurized an unwilling housing association to renovate the badly damaged structure of the lady’s premises, called in the pest control department to fumigate the premises and arranged with a local linked good neighbor befriending agency for which she is at present on their waiting list. We have also part funded a carpet for her living room and intend to do the rest of her home within the next few months. (This is a grant).

AHIC is also in the process of negotiating with an experienced water engineering charity to supply clean water village by village in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Said charity already in Mali and Bukino Faso. We are also hoping to raise funds for a school for street children in Freetown Sierra Leone.

Africa Won 43 Medals at the 2016 Olympics

Caster Semenya made history for South Africa. Caster Semenya became the first black woman to win an Olympic gold for South Africa. She won the 800 metres gold beating Burundi’s and Kenya’s who took silver and bronze respectively. – AFKInsider

South A’frica’s Niekerk became the first African to break a sprint world record Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa became the first man to run under 43 seconds in the 400 meters. He won gold in 43.03 seconds, breaking the 17-year old record of 43. 19, set by legendary Michael Johnson of USA in 1999 in Seville, Spain. (Another superb African American) He is the first African to hold a sprint world record. – AFKInsider

Well Done! Mauritius Athlete beat cancer to compete in Rio. Mauritien Fabienne St Louis competed in the women’s triathlon, barely a year since she was diagnosed with cancer. Fabienne was diagnosed with salivary cancer in December 2015. She underwent two surgeries to remove the tumour and cancerous cells in April this year, leaving her with paralysis for three months. She was forced to withdraw from the Olympics race midway after the swimming race. – AFKInsider

Kenya’s Rudisha equaled an old record David Rudisha of Kenya won the Men’s 800 metres, defending the title won in Beijing four years ago. The win earned a place in Olympics history alongside Douglas Lowe of Britain (1924, 1928), Mal Whitfield of USA (1948, 1952) and Peter Snell of New Zealand (1960, 1964) as athletes to defend their Olympic crowns in the race. – AFKInsider

Ethiopia’s Ayana shatters New record Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia won the 10,000 metres, setting a new world and Olympic record of 29:17: 45 seconds. Wang Junxia of China held the previous World record of 29:31:78 while compatriot, Tirunesh Dibaba held the Olympic record of 29:54:66, set at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. – AFKInsider

Simone Manuel defied America’s racist swimming history in 52:70 seconds. She became the first African-American woman to win any individual medal in swimming, let alone the gold. Manuel tied for first place, setting an Olympic record with Canadian swimmer Penny Oleksiak. But Manuel also recognized that her historic victory is inextricably tied to the fight for justice against police violence in the country she represents. “It means a lot, especially with what is going on in the world today, some of the issues of police brutality,” Manuel said to reporters after her gold medal performance. “This win hopefully brings hope and change to some of the issues that are going on. My color comes with the territory .” Indeed, for many people of color, the Olympics are an opportunity to show they’re the best America has to offer while recognizing racial injustice. And Manuel’s statement on police brutality carries on this legacy.

No well done for people of colour in the Olympics can honestly ignore our “greatest” Usain Bolt, the current world record holder with 9.58 seconds, comfortably crossed the line in 9.81 – the slowest time out of any of his major 100m wins.

More Applause as Nigeria’s Chierika Ukogu Reaches Olympic Rowing Semi-Finals

Fourteen-year-old Kaya Adwoa Forson is making history as Ghana’s first representative for swimming at the summer Rio Olympic Games. Forson will compete in the women’s 200m freestyle swimming. As young as Forson is, this is not the first time Forson will be representing Ghana. In 2015 — at just 13 — she became Ghana’s sole representative at the Swimming World Championships in Kazan, Russia. She competed in both the 200m freestyle and the 200m backstroke events, where she placed 66th and 44th, respectively. Forson may not yet be a world star — many do not consider her a medal hopeful at the current Olympics — but one appears to be definitely in the cards for her future.

At just 14, she is already competing and holding her own against full-grown pro-athletes who are at the peak of their careers, and at the World Championships in Kazan, she was the youngest swimmer.

And for her age group, she consistently places within the top 5 or top 10 in her events. In one such qualifying event toward the Rio Olympics, which featured 296 athletes representing 49 clubs and 21 countries over two days of competition, Forson, again, ranked within the top 10. Forson currently lives in Malaga, Spain, where she trains with Real Club Mediterráneo de Málaga. And while she holds a dual nationality, she has chosen to represent Ghana and is integral to Team Ghana in Rio, after settling an initial controversy concerning her passport early in her career. African men and possibly black men in general have had a bad press, we all know that the police type cast them and unfairly target them, but did we know that this type casting has also affected black women and their choices when looking for a spouse. I came across a very interesting article about just this topic and decided to share with you all. Feedback welcomed.

10 Reasons to LOVE the Modern African Gentleman!

This piece was inspired by a very difficult conversation Sandra Appiah had with her girlfriends over dinner. What started off as a fun discussion about marriage and relationships turned into an episode of “African men-bashing” for everything they were not. To her dismay, all the girls, most of whom happened to be African-born confessed their lack of interest in dating African men. Their main argument was that African men simply cannot accommodate or in their own words “handle” the successful, modern African woman

It’s not surprising to hear some women swearing to never marry from a particular race, tribe or culture. But as Sandra is currently happily married to a wonderful African gentleman, she couldn’t help but feel totally uncomfortable and displeased with the misconceptions about African men, especially coming from other African women.

In every race, there are stereotypes, both cultural and social that define men and women. We’ve all heard all kinds of myths about African men. While it is wise to consider certain aspects of the person you wish to date, it is important that you do not generalize based on experience, and that you draw your conclusions based on facts and not myths. Not every African man is controlling or possessive; not every African man believes that a woman’s place is in the kitchen. Actually, the modern African gentleman is quite the opposite.

Sandra strongly believes that African men of this particular generation are the ‘cream of the crop’, however our women focus so much on their flaws that we fail to recognize how exceptional they are. It is certainly an opportunity missed.

Regardless of the kind of impression you have of the African man, there are certain characteristics that make him the most lovable. A closer look at some of these characteristics reveals why most ladies, whether African or foreign, should consider dating the African man.

So in case you do not know or forgot, here is a reminder as to why the modern African gentleman is the one to catch.

They are Educated

Statistics show that African men today are some of the most educated and brightest around the world. Whereas their counterparts may settle for a bachelors degree, they are more likely to pursue a graduate degree or higher. Higher education is very important to them and they work very hard to attend the best schools. So if you think you cannot find an African man that meets your education level, think again!

They Value Marriage

The African society places a lot of value on marriage and many traditions consider the union of man and woman as a sacred rite of passage. Every African man is expected to go through several initiation stages, one of which is matrimony. Marriage is an occasion that marks a man’s transition to another stage of life while integrating him into a bigger sphere of meaning and respect. To most African men, marriage is one of the greatest achievements in life and they will do whatever needs to be done to protect their marriage.

They Work Hard

Every African man grows up knowing that he has an obligation to provide for his family. He will therefore make the necessary sacrifices to put bread on the table. Being the head of the family, the society expects the African man to guarantee his family a good life, ensuring they are well fed and educated. In the African society, a man who can’t feed his family is considered a total letdown. These traditions have succeeded to pass through generations despite the western civilization.

They Make Great Chefs

African men learn to survive on their own from an early age. It’s therefore quite rare to find a real African man who doesn’t know how to prepare a nice meal. Although women do most of the cooking in the African society, men inevitably learn how to prepare their mother’s favorite recipes. A good case in point is the ward winning South African chef Reuben Riffel who holds great titles such as SA Chef of the year (2004), Eat Out restaurant of the Year (2004) and Unilever Chef of the Year (2007).

They Are Fashionable

The modern African gentleman has a great sense of style. Being very conscious of his appearance, he devotes a great deal of effort and attention to his fashion. This is very important to him because he understands that it is part of his image. And as he endeavors to turn heads in every room he enters, he goes the extra mile to achieve this.

They are Romantic

Gone are the days where African men only kept their wives in the kitchen at home. The modern African gentleman has great taste and wants to impress his partner. Fancy romantic getaways is part of the norm, and the woman can expect romantic surprises frequently. A first date with him is quite extraordinary. He will show up well dressed, smelling good, and will most likely sweep you off your feet.

They Are Achievers

When you consider influential personalities such as Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Desmond Tutu and many others, there is no doubt that African men are real achievers. Even the US President Barrack Obama, the world’s most powerful leader, is half African. After years of captivity and inferiority complex, the African man wants to make his presence felt and will go the extra mile to achieve his dreams.

They are Feminists!

The Modern African man does not conform to stereotypes about roles of men and women. They recognize that marriage is a partnership and does not limit their woman to certain societal expectations. They support and encourage their women, and believe in equality for all.

They are Family-Oriented

If there is one thing the Modern African man dreams of, it is to have a family of their own some day. This is very important to him, and is the reason for his hard work. His goal is to find a woman who shares the same values and settle down, and have lots of children to take over his businesses when he is frail someday.

They are Well-Cultured

Culture is very important to the modern African man, and they look for a woman who shares the same value. They want a home that is culturally sensitive, and want to ensure that their children grow up with a strong sense of culture and identity.

Despite all the claims of chauvinism, highhandedness, and violence, the African man has proved to be a polite, caring and well-mannered being. Sandra’s advise to single women is not to allow the myths and stereotypes to cloud your judgment. Although not all of them will have these traits, give yourself the opportunity to get to know them, and then make a sound decision based on facts and not what you’ve heard.

‘Africa Can Finance Its Own Development’ Says AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina

African countries should look within to the private sector to fund their own infrastructure rather than borrowing from international markets to plug financing gaps, said Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank.

Nigeria’s former minister of agriculture, Adesina spoke at the Fourth African CEO Summit in Abidjan, Ivory Coast earlier this year, SABC reported.

Motivational speaking is a strong point for Adesina, who was named 2013 Forbes African of the Year. In his acceptance speech, he urged young Africans to see agriculture as a business rather than a development tool and predicted that Africa’s future billionaires will get rich from agriculture, according to AfricanFarming.net.

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, says he’s rolling out an investment plan with hopes of expanding Nigeria’s sugar sector to make the country self-sufficient. “These are hard times, but hard times bring opportunities,” Dangote said at the African CEO Summit, according to TheAfricaReport.

Financial experts worry that African countries could slip back into debt crisis as local currencies depreciate, demand for Africa’s natural resources sink and global interest rates rise, SABC reported.

“What we have to see now from Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa is austerity, cutbacks in government spending and budget cutbacks,” said Martyn Davies from Deloitte.

African countries issued bonds worth more than $25 billion in the last 10 years. Adesina called on the private sector to double its efforts to help transform African commodities locally, and diversify African economies, particularly in tourism and service industries.

The private sector accounts for 90 percent of jobs, 80 percent of total production, and 66 percent of total investments, Adesina said in an AfDB press release.

“Africa can finance its own development, and doing so enables it to decide its own direction and pace of growth,” Adesina said.

He described efforts to deepen financial integration and increase liquidity, citing an AfDB project to link four African stock exchanges, and a joint venture with Bloomberg to facilitate the issuance of sovereign and corporate bonds on African markets. He pointed to a growth in remittances and a rise in sovereign wealth funds in Africa.

“In the face of global economic challenges, it is those African countries with diversified economies that are succeeding in weathering the economic storm,” he said. “While the current situation is challenging, it also presents great opportunity, especially for resource-rich countries, to diversify their economies away from the export of raw commodities …. Now is the time, the time for Africa to move up the value chain.”

Africa produces about 70 percent of the world’s cocoa but only accounts for a 2 percent of global cocoa revenue, Adesina said, according to the AfricaReport.

“It is time to industrialize Africa and diversify its economies … Africa must become a global powerhouse in food and agriculture” Adesina said. “But to do that, we must solve our energy problem. Business can’t be done in the dark.”

At the African CEO Summit, Adesina set out the vision of the African Development Bank. Its “High 5” priorities through 2022 include the following:

Feed Africa

Industrialize Africa

Integrate Africa

Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.

“We will only succeed in realizing the objectives of the High 5s if we work in public-private partnership,” Adesina said. “Let us think big, act big and deliver big for Africa.”

Africa is adjusting to falling commodity prices and creating new opportunities out of economic diversification, said Amir Ben Yahmed, vice president of Paris-based Groupe Jeune Afrique and founder and president of the Africa CEO Forum. He introduced the theme of the conference — “New reality, new priorities.”

Africa is resilient, and needs to add economic value to its commodities, said Alassane Ouattara, president of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. “It is you — it is the private sector — which will do the most to create jobs for the young people of this continent,” he said, calling on the private sector to step up and fund Africa’s growth, and to make concrete proposals at the Africa CEO Forum.

The forum continues through March 22.

“We should look inside. We should mobilise our own capital and we should have our own macroeconomic stabilization, fiscal consolidation and expandable taxable base. The future of Africa lies not outside; the future of Africa lies in Africa,” Adesina said, according to SABC.

AfDB said it plans to invest $12 billion in the next five years on electricity in Africa.

The Africa CEO Forum drew 500 CEOs from 43 African countries and 20 elsewhere in the world, according to the bank.

Welcome to Africa Hopes in Christ (AHIC), the first Christian charity for Africans, founded by Africans, to support fellow Africans.

Why our work will be of interest to you:

If like millions of caring people around the world, you too have heard terrible stories of life or events in Africa and felt helpless about your ability to do anything to impact change in Africa, then this newsletter is for you. Here at AHIC, we believe that there are many controversial factors responsible for the stories coming out of Africa that affect us all.

We also believe that we have an uncommon, but effective strategy for resolving what we believe to be Africa’s biggest problems, that when solved, will create a new Africa, one that naturally creates more of the positive stories that touch us all and make us all proud to be fellow humans.

It is obvious that Africa has many problems. We believe that some problems should be prioritized over others, and that done successfully, the by-product of solving some of those higher priority issues will be that some of the de-prioritized issues will automatically get solved too. Please keep reading to see the types of problems and solutions we have identified.

Here is a list of our solutions to Africa’s biggest issues:

1) Enlightenment:

The modern father of Conservatism, Edmund Burke is known for saying, “All that is needed for the forces of evil to triumph is for enough good men to do nothing.” Africa has been no exception. We Africans are just as responsible for the problems in our countries as the colonialists, and foreign conglomerate business partners, etc. that we allowed into Africa to strike up business deals that benefit the few at the expense of the many, and the time has come for us to enlighten ourselves about the problems, as well as, the world at large. Enlightenment is required because too many good people have said nothing and done nothing, for far too long. Sometimes, this has been out of fear of personal attack themselves and sometimes out of the belief that these wrongs would somehow become right by themselves. They will not right themselves, we need to do that, and the first step is enlightenment.

Enlightenment breaks into the following sub-categories:

a) Shed light on the dark corners:

We need to light up the dark corners of the status quo and of deal making in Africa that allow the few to benefit at the cost of the many. Some examples of this include:

Attaching more of a stigma and a penalty to the trade or profiteering in conflict diamonds,

Opening a real and deep investigation into allegations that Coltan mining finances African conflicts,

Maybe even changing the legislation on both sides to make it illegal for western companies to own more than a certain percentage of their own African operations.

Enlightenment, in Africa and outside, of the importance of all the initiatives listed below which are devised to create greater independence for Africa. will help.

b) Education to create a paradigm shift in awareness:

Investment in economy-building education – More Africans need to be educated to build valuable assets, in the form of businesses in Africa, that create and offer good quality, products and services that will serve their local communities, facilitating sales, local and international trade, employment, economic activity, and ultimately inter-continental trade,

Investment in the sponsorship, or otherwise supporting of bright African students that show the right potential, to study abroad and take their newly acquired skills back to Africa, to build successful businesses that serve African communities

2) Build a Sustainable and self-sustaining:

Instead of giving Africa fish, let us teach Africa to fish

Investment in the development of bilateral international commerce and inter-continental trade

Investment in infrastructure to create a genuinely free market economy

Help turn cocoa farmers into the next Cadbury’s or Tate & Lyle, or Unilever (an African Conglomerate), that negotiates for itself at the global level, and earns a much fairer share for their contribution to the global cocoa industry,

Investment in education designed to teach and support Africans in creating a more valuable and productive Africa that sells products and services profitably

“The Sherbros of Sierra Leone”, a book publishing project, about an industrious African tribe/people who are disappearing as they assimilate into neighbouring societies, written by an African author. This is part of our “Enlightenment” projects because it enlightens the reader (African or not) to the industrious nature of these amazing and adaptable people, and can inspire the next generation of great Africans.

Business Mentoring, for the next phase of business development/expansion, for a 5 year old ladies’ handbag and accessory company, in London, owned and run by an African.

Business advice, for a new start-up business, an African-founded Carer Agency, in Manchester

Business support for a new start-up, in the clothing and healthy cosmetics industries, in London, owned and run by an African

The brightest and best business ideas competition; for 15-19 year old orphans in Ghana, West Africa.

Private housing insulation project, that must be completed before next winter in the UK, for a physically ill African woman, based in Manchester.

Happy New Year Prayer Warriors.

In this edition we are asking all Prayer Warriors to pray for the economies of African countries. For prosperity, wealth generation, equal distribution, prioritizing infra structure and trade enhancement and the plight of the poorest within our continent, for genuine assistant from our brothers and sisters in other continents. For God’s favor and blessing on all the efforts of those genuinely trying to help and for our political and church leaders to rise up and do the best they can with the opportunity our Lord Jesus has given them. We also pray for peace especially in South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic. For our Lord to intervene and disrupt the plans of IS in Africa especially in Nigeria, Kenya, Somali, Chad, Cameroon and Niger .

If I could be Santa and give gifts to each of my African friends, here’s what I’d wish for each African country in 2016:

Algeria – continued success in economic diversification.

Angola – a tremendous bump in the oil price.

Benin – an easy process to coalition-building before the presidential election in 2016.

Botswana – true recognition of the need to forge a plan that utilizes mining surpluses to diversify the economy and create employment opportunities.

Burkina Faso – a bump in gold and cotton prices.

Burundi – a calm in the aftermath of Pierre Nkurunziza’s July 2015 presidential election.

Cameroon – continued international support in fighting Boko Haram. Cameroon is sometimes forgotten in the Boko Haram terrorism discussion.

Cape Verde – a pat on the back for truly pushing to the finish line on hitting the Millennium Development Goals by end of 2015. The country has the highest life expectancy in sub-Saharan Africa.

Central African Republic – less violence. 2016 should be an opportunity to hit the restart button with a new president.

Chad – debt relief for Chad in 2015 and new economic beginnings in 2016.

Comoros – a boost in the supply of electricity. Right now the capital gets a few hours of electricity per day.

Congo Brazzaville – investment partners in the infrastructure space.

Congo (Kinshasa) – a successful and peaceful series of elections in 2016, including the presidential election.

Cote d’Ivoire – a successful Africa CEO Forum. Cote d’Ivoire is economically strong but the even greater economic upside is not always palpable until you are on the ground

Djibouti – continued stability for a country that hosts numerous military bases for different countries in a very volatile part of the world

Egypt – greater success in integrating the Sinai Peninsula into the larger economy. Creating jobs is part of the process in combating terrorism.

Equatorial Guinea – success in its spatial development program — a program that exploits the complementary economic strengths of different growth hubs throughout the country. Can it be a success story for other African countries?

Eritrea – better relations with the world and greater incorporation into the global economy.

Ethiopia – Happy 2009! Better luck for you than me in 2009. The Ethiopian New Year for 2009 comes in September 2016 on the Gregorian calendar. Ethiopian legal documents use the Ethiopian calendar and the dates associated with that calendar, which are seven-to-eight years behind the Western calendar. It gets confusing.

Gabon – economic diversification because $100 oil is not coming back in the near term.

Gambia – a bonding retreat with the IMF. Jokes aside, both sides hopefully will get on the same page.

Ghana – the completion of the Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme (TEN) field by Tullow — Ghana’s second major oil development.

Guinea-Bissau – political agreement and forward movement. It is a time of opportunity for Guinea-Bissau.

Kenya – fewer traffic jams.

Lesotho – rain and more rain to end one of the worst droughts in 30 years.

Liberia – a short memory on the Ebola epidemic.

Libya – a transitional government that unites the differing factions in Tobruk, Tripoli, and Benghazi.

Madagascar – a bump in private investment, particularly with a new mining and petroleum code in 2016.

Malawi – a better balance of rain. A combination of droughts and floods have hurt agriculture in 2015.

Mali – the return of the Festival au Desert, currently in exile. Read more about this celebration, considered one of Africa’s premier festivals for music, dance and cultural exchange, atAFKInsider.

Mauritania – buoyancy with the iron price as economic diversification continues.

Mauritius – more tourism packages for those visiting from the U.S.

Morocco – greater support in its ambition to be a financial capital in Africa. There is a strong argument for it in terms of the country’s location, stability, and relationship with Europe.

Mozambique – a “go” on the liquefied natural gas facilities in northern Mozambique. Yes there is the concern of oversupply but I like the symbolism in a “go” for Mozambique.

Namibia – ongoing success in boosting education to support a strong mining economy.

Niger – a boom in infrastructure support to the uranium industry in Niger’s vast desert. Niger is home to the fifth largest recoverable uranium reserves.

Nigeria – a renewed Nigerian image on the international stage under the Buhari administration.

Rwanda – more success for the Tour of Rwanda as it tries to advance cycling popularity on the African continent.

Sao Tome and Principe – a smooth introduction into the oil-producing world.

Senegal – more infrastructure dollars from private investors.

Seychelles – more global weddings and consequently more honeymoon travellers to the country.

Sierra Leone – a headliner year in 2016 for entrepreneurship. The Global Entrepreneurship Index ranks Sierra Leone 128th out of 132 countries surveyed for entrepreneurship. The country is better than that.

Somalia – a change on the outlook of elections for the near term, maybe an end-of-year 2016 election.

South Africa – a GDP bump. The economy must take a turn for the positive.

South Sudan – peace and open, affordable oil pipelines.

Sudan – an international image beyond civil conflict. There is an opportunity for investment in the country.

Swaziland – a let-up in the tension between locals and foreign business owners.

Tanzania – John Magufuli delivers the goods in 2016.

Togo – ease and cooperation in the government decentralization process.

Tunisia – resilience in the fight for democracy and peace. Tunisia can still be a model for democracy in Northern Africa.

Uganda – renewed efforts and success in restoring primary school education. Recent numbers suggest that hidden costs in schooling are reversing the country’s high performance in ensuring all children complete primary school.

Western Sahara – some momentum in providing a solution to ongoing conflict over its self-governing and territorial independence.

Zambia – a reverse on the currency tide with a bonus — that copper prices rebound in 2016.

Zimbabwe – a recovery on the South African rand. Zimbabweans have benefited from a bump in the dollar but suffered on the rand. Both the dollar and rand operate as functional currencies in the country.

In this edition we explore putting the Christ back into Christmas. And I will like to share a sermon titled “You’re In Christ” by my pastor, Pastor Pearline Bent of Threshing Floor Ministries sent to me via text. She says:

YOU’RE IN CHRIST

The Lord Sits On The Topmost Seat Of Power

COLOSSIANS 1:16-18

“For by Him (Christ) all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him, and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things exists. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead , that in all things He may have the pre-eminence”

LET’S TALK

“Honey, welcome home, what happened in school today?”

“I was embarrassed today Mum” Marcia replied, obviously upset

“Come here, my dear; tell me about it,” her Mum said consolingly

“Well, in history class, the teacher asked what we thought was the highest position of authority in the world. Jack said “the Head of the UN”, Sophie said, “the US President,” while Felicia said, it belonged to the richest person in the world. I raised my hand and said it was Christ, and everyone burst into laughter,”

“Oh no, dear. Don’t be embarrassed, You‘re actually right, and you should be elated. Christ is the highest authority, and you’re seated in power with Him.”

Some people, like Marcia’s classmates, may be ignorant of the awesome power and authority that the Lord Jesus Christ has and wields. God the Father didn’t just set Him above , but far above all principalities, powers, thrones, dominions and every name that is named. Every situation bows to the Name of Jesus, because He has all power and authority. He’s far above all kings, presidents and governments! Ephesians 1:15-23, 1Timothy 6:15

When God set Him at this high place of glory, He also put all things under His feet, and legally declared Him Head over all things for the benefit of the church (His body) – that’s you and me! It doesn’t matter what part of His Body you are, you’re still above all things! You’re seated at the right hand of God in Christ Jesus, in the highest place of divine authority and power! Satan, sickness, poverty and death are all under your feet. Therefore, reign in life and rule over circumstances; exercise the dominion of the Spirit, Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear Father, I thank You for making me sit together with Christ, far above all principality and power, and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world , but also in that which is to come! I rejoice at this awesome blessing as I exercise my dominion in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

Use the Name of Jesus today: Command difficult situations to comply with your words in the Name of Jesus

Well after reading that I was inspired, refreshed, uplifted and I hope you were too. But soon after that, whilst listening to PREMIER Christian radio news, I heard that a number of people are taking the Department of Education in the UK to court citing that, it was negligent in protecting the right to opt out of school assemblies . Whilst I agree that everyone should have free choice as to whether to believe in Christ or not. The aim of these people was to make school assemblies a thing of the past and thus deprive a whole generation the free choice of accepting our Lord as their personal saviour. And I believe this attack is happening all over the western world. However it is clear to me that without Christ moral decay is inevitable as we can all clearly see in the tv, film industry, newspapers, advertising world and town centres in the west. Although there are a few genuinely moral humanist, the vast majority of society without Christ heads for disaster. And I know that some Christians have behaved badly but if you pattern yourself on Christ and not his imperfect followers, believe with all your heart in His sovereignty , mercy and grace and do your best to follow Him on a day to day basis, your life will be worthwhile and full of joy, there will still be trouble and pain for we live in a fallen world but I guarantee that He will walk with you , guiding , comforting and enabling you to overcome your hurdles and society will be better for it as more and more people get to know His saving grace and do their part in Christ whilst within this world.

According to a recent survey commissioned by Premier and conducted by ComRes, 67% of people across the UK do not believe that the birth of Jesus Christ is the main reason for celebrating Christmas, and 52% do not feel the religious aspect of Christmas is important to them. There must be something we can do as Christians to reverse this and to remind people of the true and joyous meaning of Christmas.

· For the love of Christ to comfort the broken-hearted in Paris, Mali, Beirut, Baghdad and Northern Nigeria, Chad , Cameroon, Kenya and Somalia where Islamist militants full of hate inflict their evil on the population

· For wisdom for the G20 countries and the UN in combating this new terror (Militant extreme Islamist)

· For the preservation and protection of Israel and fairness for the Palestinians and for both sides to acknowledge and come to know the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour , without whom life is worthless, a mere existence

· For courage, boldness, wisdom and determined love for enemies by the persecuted church worldwide, especially in the Middle East and Africa

· For the prosperity and re-evangelisation of Africa , the Name of Christ lifted high and Christian values practised on a daily basis, for faith without works is nothing but hypocrisy

· For a better, stronger, prosperous, peaceful and more positive 2016 worldwide

The month of October in the UK is regarded as Black History month , so we have decide to inform our friends of Africa about 10 Mind-Blowing Things to Know About Education in Africa Before the Arrival of Europeans, curtesy of ATLANTA BLACK STAR 9/9/15

African knowledge was not only passed down orally.

The notion that ancient African education was oral and not written is only a myth. In his book, “Reversing Sail: A History of the African Diaspora,” Dr Michael Gomez, an author and professor of history and Middle Eastern and Islamic studies at New York University, declares that, from 300 B.C. to A.D. 350, the Meroë civilization had developed a writing system of its own.

Africans were literate far before Europeans.

Gomez states that while the Western perspective dates intellect and education back to the era of Socrates and Plato, the individuals of Egypt and Nubia developed “literate, urban-based, technologically advanced civilizations” centuries before the mere establishment of Rome, let alone Athens. In fact, in his book “Echoes of Ancient African Values,” Dr Joseph Bailey, a retired orthopaedic surgeon who has become an expert in the subjects of Ancient African history and African-American experiences, states that “modifications of Egyptian writing served as the basis for the ‘new’ writings developed for many Western Semitic languages — Phoenician, Hebrew, Aramaic, etc.”

Africa was home to one of the oldest universities in the world.

Founded in A.D. 989 by the erudite chief judge of Timbuktu, Al-Qadi Aqib ibn Mahmud ibn Umar, the The Sankore Mosque, or Sankore University, is one of the oldest schools of higher learning in the world. A wealthy Mandinka woman financed Sankore, making it a leading centre of education, according to Muslimheritage.com. K.C. MacDonald, a lecturer of African Archaeology at the University College of London’s Institute of Archaeology, writes that the school “had no central administration, student registers, or prescribed courses of study; rather, it was composed of several entirely independent schools or colleges, each run by a single master or imam.” This university reportedly produced over 700,000 manuscripts.

Individuals travelled from all over to be taught by Africans.

According to Gomez, in the 1100s, the Africans of al-Andalus, a medieval Muslim state, significantly contributed to the “intense period of intellectual and cultural production” that lasted for 800 years. The African intellect of Iberia served as the foundation for the European Renaissance that began in the 1500s and lasted until the 1800s. Also, individuals travelled from all around the globe to study at the universities at Timbuktu in both the Mali and Songhai empires. In fact, revered European scholars, such as Herodotus, journeyed to Africa to obtain knowledge and information.

Traditionally, everyone was involved in the educational process.

It takes a village to raise a child. In regards to African education prior to the arrival of Europeans, every generation was involved. In his book, “History and Development of Education in Tanzania,” Professor Philemon A.K. Mushi, the first and founding principal of the Mkwawa University College of Education, confirms that indigenous education in Africa was characterized by the “process of passing among the tribal members and from one generation to another the inherited knowledge, skills, cultural traditions, norms and values of the tribe.”

A modern day primary school class in Africa

African education was never-ending.

Indigenous African education was a process that lasted a lifetime. In his article, “History of Education in East Africa,” Sam Witerson, a teacher of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, expresses that “African indigenous education was a lifelong process of learning whereby a person progressed through predetermined stages of life of graduation from cradle to grave.” Education was a journey, as opposed to a stepping stone toward monetary-inspired success.

Ancient Kemet developed a highly complex and impressive system of schooling.

The late George Granville Monah James was an author and historian of South America. In his book, “Stolen Legacy,” he expounds upon the educational Egyptian Mystery System of Ancient Egypt. At the universities of Egypt, grammar, rhetoric and logic eliminated irrationality. Geometry and arithmetic harboured the theories and techniques in which individuals eliminated problems, both internally and physically. And, astronomy gave individuals the ability to obtain knowledge and examine destiny. Lastly, music served as the “living practice of philosophy.”

Hatshepsut (c. 1479 B.C. – 1458 B.C.) said to be of African ethnic origin Regarded by Egyptologists as one of the most successful pharaohs; Hatshepsut was the fifth ruler of the 18th dynasty. According to Egyptologist James Henry Breasted, she is also known as “the first great woman in history of whom we are informed.”

The Egyptian Mystery Schools inspired Greek philosophy.

In “Stolen Legacy,” James uncovers the five primary elements that link Greek philosophy to the aspects of the Egyptian Mystery Schools. First, many Greek philosophers found studying the sciences to be pivotal; this action was a requirement for membership into the Egyptian Mystery System. Second, the four cardinal virtues of Plato heavily resemble the 10 virtues of the Egyptian Mystery System. Third, the religious institutions of Greece bear a striking resemblance to the temples of Egypt; just as the religious palaces and temple of Egypt, the religious institutions of the West are often constructed of stone and characterized by entrances lined by statues, large courts and ceilings that favour the sky with paintings of clouds or stars. Fourth, the temple of Delphi, which is often mentioned throughout the legends of Greek mythology, was solely of Egypt. And, fifth, while the later rulers of Greece opposed Egyptian influences, many philosophers of ancient Greece imitated Egyptian worship.

What Queen Hatshepsut is said to have looked like

In Ancient Egypt, the scribe was the epitome of intellect.

In ancient Egypt, education was reserved for the royals, the rich and the “gatekeepers” of society; the scribes were these gatekeepers. In his book, “Eloquence of the Scribes: a Memoir on the Sources and Resources of African Literature,” Ayi Kwei Armah, a Ghanaian scholar, author and translator, explains that these individuals had an “unmistakable stamp of genius,” as well as “such high organizational skills that their civilization lasted thousands of years, longer than any other.” While most scribes were of the elite class, scribes could be a member of any social class, and, while most scribes were men, evidence has shown that female scribes existed. Scribes were responsible for multiple tasks, which included preserving history, collecting taxes and composing written recollections of everyday life in Egypt. Prior to becoming a scribe, one had to undergo intense training characterized by apprenticeship.

African education was rooted in collectivism, as opposed to individualism.

“(E)ducation or (e)ducation in Traditional African Societies? A Philosophical Insight,” a paper written by Amasa Philip Ndofirepi and Elizabeth Spiwe Ndofirepi, conveys that, in regards to education, communalism is “the responsibility of the community to see to it that children are raised appropriately and that as they grow into adulthood they will provide for the older members of the community.” the major goal of traditional education in Africa is to produce a complete individual; one who is cultured, respectful, integrated, sensitive and responsive to the needs of the family and neighbours.

Black history month October 2015, racism in the UK : – prayer for the 4 black women who got turned away from a west end London night club for being too dark and too fat even though the largest was a UK size 12 USA size 10. Prayer for the nightclub’s management team and owners . It is said that Westminster council will be conducting an investigation on nightclubs in the area as several complaints have been reported. Prayer requested for a fair and just investigation outcome
