Young Ice announced on, Feb. 20th, that he plans to launch a new clothing line called Villi’age.

The Villi’age shirt will add to his already vibrant brands AshantiBeads and Elev8. Certainly, Ice continues to make waves in the fashion industry. We sat down with the Bronx-based, young African entrepreneur to chat about Villi’age and the motivation behind this new line.

Afripolis: Tell us about Villi’age? Ice: It’s about being proud. Pride in culture, pride in art, pride in Africa. The Gye Nyame Symbol has great value, and we show that value through art and fashion in Villi’age. I wanted to create something worth having.

Afripolis: Why the Gye Nyame (JEAN-YAH -ME) symbol? Ice: The Gye Nyame (JEAN-YAH -ME) symbol is very powerful and I see the value in it. So I took this powerful sign and made a bold fashion statement with this design. We want our customers to proudly display the worth of the Gye Nyame symbol. You see, it embodies what Africa is and anyone who takes pride in Africa will be proud to pay.

Afripolis: When will the shirt be available? Ice: The shirt will be released on March 6th at midnight, 12:00am, on my website http://www.ashantibeads.com Any purchase of a Villi’age shirt will be billed at $49.99. We are excited for the launch.

Our sit-down with YoungIce ensured us even more of his passion to style Africa in new heights. “I don’t see Villi’age as clothing line,” says Ice, “It’s art on fabric. People may look at an abstract painting by Picasso, Georgia O’keffe or Basquiat and say, ‘That’s not worth a million dollars!’ but they know how much it’s worth.” He is certain the people will support his latest item and sound ever more confident about it. “Our mission,” he continues “is to utilize cloths as a medium to teach African history and spread African unity.” With this passion for fashion, we hope to keep taps on Young Ice as he ventures unchartered territory.
