What is happening in Manaus, Brazil?
Manaus is the capital of the state of Amazonas. Ever since the beginning of the spread of covid-19 in Brazil, it has been the most affected state of the whole country.
For the past month, with the increase of cases all around, Amazonas' health system has completely collapsed.
So far, 5.9k people have died by covid in Amazonas. With the rising cases (the death rates have increased 183% in the last seven days), it has come to the point that the cemeteries in Manaus can not manage to bury everyone.
100% of the hospitals beds are occupied. Patients are being transferred to other states, because Manaus can't treat everyone that is coming to the hospitals.
All the oxygen stock in the hospitals is over. They don't have any oxygen available. Patients from covid are being manually ventilated. So far, over 50 covid patients have died by suffocation only in the last two days.
60 premature babies are going to be transferred to other states (mainly São Paulo) to receive proper care due to the collapse of the Amazonian system.
A new variant of the virus has been detected there, one that has a higher potential of transmission and reinfection.
Amazonas is in deep need of donations, even the smallest amount of money can help them found new resources (ppe kits, hygiene items, food, drinking water, medicines) and oxygen tanks. This is a phone list of oxygen providers in Amazonas. To ring them you would have to put +55 92 and then each number. I know this is a harder approach if you are not a portuguese speaker but it is still an option.
