Liam lets himself be guided for a little while, content with Louis telling him where to go and what to do with sharp tugs on his hair and the occasional groan. But they haven't got all day, and as much as Liam would love to spend all day taking his time and teasing, he can't do that just now.

He decides instead that it's about time he and Louis lose a few layers, pulling back to pull off his own shirt before lending Louis a hand.

And then there's so much skin that Liam kind of can't help it, leaning down to nip and suck a trail from neck to tummy, working at the button and zip of Lou's trousers as he goes.

It's hardly a fair fight. Louis is nearly to the top of the stairs by the time Liam starts, halfway down the hall when he reaches the top.

But Louis is nothing if not a sore winner. As he reaches the doorway, he turns around - presumably to gloat or make a face - and Liam, not so far behind as he had been, slows down just enough to lift him up.

Louis squawks. "Put me down, you barbarian!"

So Liam does, dropping him onto the bed and laughing at the face he makes.

"You’re so needy," Liam laughs, if only to cover up a sniffle. "We’ve hardly got time for anything."

Louis sighs and shakes his head, leading Liam back into their home. "Oh, babe, haven’t you learned anything at all from this marriage?" he asks, lowering his voice and leaning in close.

"How not to make the bed," comes the automatic response, even though it’s possibly the most incredibly unsexy thing Liam has ever said.

Possibly. He says a lot of rather unsexy things, now that he’s thinking about it.

"I would like to think I’ve taught you how to make a right mess of a bed, actually," Louis whispers into his neck, just below his ear.

Fingers are pulling at his collar, towing him to the stairs. He could fight back; he should, just on principle. Louis needs to be told no every now and then. But maybe not just now, because fooling around before work sounds like the very best kind of terrible idea.

Louis huffs, a little indignant, but that's all the protest he offers. He shuts his eyes and Liam listens as his breathing evens out. When it seems like Louis is finally, definitely asleep, he closes his own eyes and relaxes, waiting for the morning when their kids come in to wake them.

Louis, true to form, snorts. "Yes you do," he mumbles.

"You get used to it."

That's all he can think to say, really, and it's. It's true. Liam does worry all the time, about if the kids are going to be late, about whether or not they'll be able to pay the bills, about whether or not people like him.Mostly, he worries about if Louis gets enough sleep, about whether or not he's happy or taking care of himself.

He has gotten used to it, feeling worried and responsible for everyone. He had to. And maybe now Louis does too, even though Liam wishes he never would.

"Don't sweat the small stuff, babe," he says, moving his hand in circles over Louis' back. "It's only their first day of school. You did that once, and you're not dead yet."

So he's not sleeping either. It might be because he's worried, too, but he's going to blame it on the fact that his husband needs someone there with him right now.

He wraps an arm around Louis' waist and Louis jumps nearly three feet off the bed. Liam doesn't laugh. At all. Not even a little bit. (Except for the part where he definitely does.)

Watching Louis fall asleep is like watching an entire plethora of amazing things happen at once, the northern lights and a meteor shower - and maybe even a few other things, he doesn't know, he's too tired for this - and he knows that this is better, and he wouldn't want to go a night without it anymore.

Liam does shut up, but only so he can use his tongue for something a little bit more fun. He spreads Louis' ass open, leaning down to lick at his hole.

"I could do this all day, babe," he warns, as if to keep any further challenges at bay. In reality, he probably could. Without any complaints at all.

"I could leave one here," he says, poking Louis just under his ribs to get him to squeak. "Or here." He twists a nipple. "Or even," he suggests, moving his hand around, "here." He pinches at the flesh of Louis' arse.
