[ LEE SUNG-KYUNG. THIRTY3. SHE/HER. CIS WOMAN. ] okay.. let’s recap for a second! did you see who just arrived into town the other day? that has to be BYEON JI-AH. i’m pretty sure that they’re currently residing within OAK HOLLOW. last i’ve heard they’ve lived in knotts harbor for TWO YEARS. you can find them working as a NURSE around here. usually, when i hear their name the following FAINT LAUGHTER LINES ADORNING TIRED EYES, SHAKESPEARE'S TRAGEDY OPENED NEXT TO AN UNTOUCHED BREAKFAST AND THE SCENT OF LAVENDER UPON YOUR PILLOW seem to be reminding me of them. most of the time i’d say they’re SOLICITOUS. but on the other hand? they can also be WISTFUL. i guess that’s usually why they get the reputation of being known as THE PHOENIX. if you were to listen to their playlist right now? you’d be able to find SPIRITED AWAY BY JASMINE SOKKO blasting through their speakers. i really can’t wait to see what else we find out about them here in knotts harbor!

INFO.
⸻ perhaps , she was always destined to know heartache in some form, starting from the time she's born. doctors told her parents she had what's called an atrial septal defect, otherwise known as a hole in the heart. now they said it wasn't anything too serious, that typically these things heal on their own with time. at least the believed it was small enough to have anyway.
⸻ for the first two years of her life, it seemed like that was the case, however, it wasn't long after her 2nd birthday while in the park playing that it simply wasn't. her breathing had become slightly labored and she nearly passed out right in front of her mother. rushed to the hospital, they found the hole was still the same and would need to be closed via surgery. after which life would return to normalcy for the most part. although she'd always contend with mild symptoms, even today, if she's get overly excited or has too much caffeine.
⸻ of course, jia didn't let that stop her from living life to the fullest, a girl who lived for adventures, and loved staying out until the streetlights came on. flourishing both academically and socially, a popular girl that would befriend just about every clique who said hi to anyone in the halls. she'd even tried to go for track, but unfortunately the flutter in her chest was a reminder that she and running would not get along well.
⸻ university comes along and she attends nyu's school of nursing, the first stepping stone into her future career. it was an easy choice, going into the medical field in general, but especially as a nurse given the times she spent in the hospital or doctor's offices and the care they gave to her. she wanted to be able to help other's as well in that sense, obtaining a dual BSN and master's degree.
⸻ it's also during her final year of nursing school that something unexpected happens, she meets whom she thinks then, is the woman of her dreams. the two enter quite a whirlwind romance, smitten and head over heels in just half a year they're moving in together, and it's not long before jia finds herself proposing, talks of a family and future together, it feels almost like a never ending honeymoon phase in truth.
⸻ unfortunately though the universe isn't always so merciful, this is where her second bout of true heartache comes into play. she gets a call one night from the hospital, having been off duty, her fiancée was involved in a crash, a drunk driver blew through a red light. she rushes down, and the doctors are doing everything they can, but unfortunately the injuries sustained were too much. devastation was an understatement, her heart not simply broken, but shattered completely.
⸻ the days .. weeks ... hell months that followed she's swallowed by grief. moving on feels near impossible, and everything surrounding her reminded her too much of her lost love. the apartment ... the city, everything. she simply needs to get away, her family tells her it's not a good idea, and she was being too hasty. but jia was already looking for jobs elsewhere.
⸻ coming across listing for a nursing position at a hospital in a place called knott's harbor, a small town in massachusetts that's good enough for a new start. so to speak. two years on and even though the days can still be hard and feel fresh, she's been able to steadily move forward with life, doing her best to put one foot forward at a time.
