“They forced me into heat,” he whispers, turning away from Andrew again.
“You’re not a beta?”
Neil shakes his head.
“Do- What do you want from me right now? How can I help you?”
“I can’t have what I want,” Neil says through gritted teeth. He claws at his face and closes his eyes to keep from staring at Andrew. He ran. He’s not what he said he was. Andrew doesn’t want him, he never will. His stupid biology was latching onto the only alpha who’d ever treated him as anything more than a nuisance. He doesn’t get to have a mate. He is going to suffer through this heat and never deviate from his meds and try to find out how to run again, to leave this mismatched pack that had let him crash land and blow everything up.
“What do you want?” Andrew’s voice is low, soothing. He’s crouched down, hasn’t moved closer. Neil peeks between his fingers, breathing raggedly as tears pour down his face. He’s hungry. He’s exhausted. He’s aching with the need to be knotted. He looks away again.
“I don’t get to have what I want,” he whispers, voice breaking.
“Neil, answer my question.”
“You!” he snaps. He covers his face again, nearly gagging on how good Andrew’s pheromones taste. He doesn’t get that, he isn’t allowed. Andrew has told him time and again that they are nothing and never will be. “I want you. I want you and me and I want us but I know you don’t. I can’t- I can’t have you.”
