An assassination attempt on their life following them ruining a Zoraxis plot but Zoraxis didn't have proof. They'd been followed for a while and almost lost someone important to them.

Shadow's is weird because she was kinda always acquainted with the agency (being your kid to work dag sure was fun for Blue XD), but didn't become an agent until she was around 17, a little while after losing her arm and getting her prosthetic, and realizing she wanted to learn to defend herself and protect those who couldn't. So probably that.

Kai has a lot more definitive, and less talked about worst point. A little bit after Wraith pulled the gas mask contraption off his face and freed from the mind control, he looked out over the cliff where they had been fighting. It was almost completely demolished. I'd say his worst moment is realizing that he did that, and somebody could've died. Because of him. That hadn't happened since Lilac got her prosthetic...

Rose walked down the hall with Kai in her arms, the sun was setting and she was pretty sure it was the little guy's bedtime.

She set him down in the room Oriae directed her towards, and he snuggled into bed, the blankets comically large for his size.

She chuckled and was about to head out when something shiny caught her eyes. It was some sort of golden sphere on the bedside table. She walked up to it, and picked it up gently, it was so intricate, maybe some sort of astronomical sphere?

All of a sudden the bands began to shift, forming letters and sentences. She nearly dropped the thing as she stumbled backwards. Heading out of the room so she didn't wake Kai up, and also to see if this was something she should be telling someone.

Once she closed the door to the room she looked back at the sphere, it read 'sing the song of the soul'

Huh, wonder what that meant. She went off to find Oriae, hopefully she knew more about weird cryptic artifacts than she did.

What with Florian ( @eod-agent-13-12 ) scolding him and Kai's worry, Nix rubs his neck a bit out of embarrassment.

I'm ok. I promise. Maybe overusing Than's power took it's toll... But I'd do it again if it meant keeping everyone safe.

He hears Reginald sigh and feels Ollie grip his hand tightly as Reggie speaks.

"Agent, your friends are right to worry. If you keep sacrificing yourself over and over like this, I fear my heart can't take it. While noble intentions are well and good, I'll admit I'm afraid of you being so unaware of your worth, you'll pull yourself into pieces Ollie and I can't stitch back together."

He goes silent for a bit before muttering.

"Spanish doesn't sound right on my tongue, Phoenix, but please... Hijo, just- just take a break. This once."

He's right. Spanish does sound weird with his accent. But the fact that he threw caution to the wind just to address him as "son"? Knocked the wind out of him.

Kai is standing next to these two vaguely familiar people, and holding Nix's other hand, actually on the other side of the hospital bed for once.

"Nix. Nix listen to me. I know how tempting it is to always be the hero, to put everyone else in front of yourself in hopes of never losing anyone again. But... Life doesn't work like that. No matter how many times you keep those close to you safe, it doesn't undo the damage you did to yourself."

He gaze shifts away from Nix, memories bubbling up. "I... i would know.... It can do awful things to even the strongest of people.

He looks back at Nix, tears in his eyes, as he mutters "And what good is saving your family if you don't even get to be with them in the end?"

"Waiting... Well, I know what it's like in the other side, Nix. Kai is right. To this day, I still don't know what it's like to live with the uncertainty of someone's return, hoping they'll come home but also preparing for their absence."

Ameri squeezed Florian's shoulder in quiet support, hoping Nix (@silverdragon889) gets the hint that people cared.

Nix is so very, *very* confused, and Ollie can tell. The man simply sighs, and taps the ginger on the shoulder, getting his attention, before quietly speaking*

"Feather, I don't think any of us here expect you to process this in one day. I know that *I* certainly don't. But what we *do* want is for you to rest, knowing that it's ok to do so, and letting our words sink into that info-sponge you call a brain."

Ollie's lips upturn, and Nix himself laughs breathy and light- quiet, but sincere.

"See? Laughter. I've done my job."

Nix isn't sure about any of this at all. Not in the least. But for now? He snuggles into the blankets provided and nods.

Alright... I suppose I can take some time, then.

Kai visibly relaxes, "I'm so glad to hear that." And he turns to Florian ( @eod-agent-13-12), "Are you okay to handle this? I believe I have... A friend to check up on."

"Go ahead. She's probably staying away for a reason." Florian gave Kai a wry grin before turning to Nix (@silverdragon889). "You might wanna repeat that a few more times, Ollie."

Turning our focus to the other half of the siblings... Oriae sits on the roof. Not on the edge, but still close enough to gaze out at the sprawling view in front of her.

She's currently thinking in circles. Going around and around in her mind, chasing the thought of how once upon a time, she would've reduced this gorgeous view to rubble and dirt without a second thought. About how that mindset poisoned her bond with her brother. About how maybe all the blame lies within who she used to be.

Kai scours the halls, but after no luck in the building, he climbs the ladder to the roof, that seems like a nice place to cool off.

He finally spots Ori near the edge of the roof, and lets out a sigh that was holding tension in his shoulders.

"Hey," he calls out, "you okay?"

She sees no point in beating around the bush... Doesn't have the energy for it anyway. So her simple answer is;

No. I am not.

His heart breaks a little as he walks closer, "I'm sorry."

He stops about a foot away, "May I sit here? Or would you like to be alone for a bit?"

She simply uses her mechanical arm to pat the spot beside her. She isn't daft enough to turn away pleasant company at a time like this.

He plops down right next to her, watching the sprawling view from their perch.

"wow. That's some view, isn't it?" He looks up at Ori with a fond smile, "reminds me of that time you got me out of detention."

That gets her to crack a small smile, at least, as the somewhat warm memories come back to her.

I unfortunately have no food on hand this time.

Kai smiles, "That's okay, its my turn to bring the snacks." And he pulls out a bag he found in the kitchen with old snacks from a Halloween party, he's pretty sure they're still good, and he found some particularly good goodies inside.

He opens the bag and holds out a caramel apple to Oriae, "want one?"

Heterochromic eyes light up with nostalgia as she gingerly takes the treat. She lets the comforting sweet taste of the caramel apple envelop her sense of taste, and her smile begins to grow.

A smile spreads across his face in that wide manner that happened whenever he saw one of his friends happy, "You're welcome, Ori." And he leaned his head up against her shoulder, watching the sun slowly begin to dip behind the horizon, as a warmth crawled into his chest.

"Really puts things into perspective, doesn't it?"

And then, the smile fades, and the melancholy returns as the treat goes limp in her hands.

Yes. Yes it does.

Her sigh is heavy, and full of sorrow. But she continues.

It wasn't long ago I would've reduced all this beauty to rubble for vengence that meant nothing. Petty and hollow, art I.

Kai looks up at her, his face becoming a mite more serious, though not exactly losing his smile. "You're right. The last time we got to watch a sunset like this, we were such different people. Trapped in places neither of us really wanted to be, both physically, and mentally."

He looks out to the sky, a beautiful gradient gracing the sky as the sun sunk lower into the sky.

"I don't think either of us ever thought we would get out or get better, didn't even entertain the idea. But here we are," his face brightened and he looked up at Ori with an almost goofy smile. "Out, and... from what I can tell, better than ever."

The look on Kai's face makes her duck her head with an amused huff as the smile starts to return again.

You, most certainly. Your life is much brighter now than the mockery I was introduced to at first glance. But me? I don't know. Perhaps if I were truly changed, my brother wouldn't still see me as a threat.

Kai chuckles, "Ahh, now isn't that a familiar thought pattern? Y'know, I'm still not sure if my own sister likes me. I spent... So much time in apathy, I..." his smile drops from his face as he thinks out loud to a place he never meant to go. "I completely succumbed to what they wanted me to be. So much pain and loss could've been avoided had I just snapped out of it. Maybe things could've been better had I taken another course of action. Maybe she would still trust me."

He looks back up at Ori, a few tears gathering at his eyes, "but that's just it? Isn't it? No matter how hard you wish things went differently, they always stay the same. The past doesn't care about your life, but you can. You can make things different. It just... Takes time." Kai chuckles softly as he wiped his eyes, "and a lot of it."

She chuckled and was about to head out when something shiny caught her eyes. It was some sort of golden sphere on the bedside table. She walked up to it, and picked it up gently, it was so intricate, maybe some sort of astronomical sphere?

All of a sudden the bands began to shift, forming letters and sentences. She nearly dropped the thing as she stumbled backwards. Heading out of the room so she didn't wake Kai up, and also to see if this was something she should be telling someone.

Once she closed the door to the room she looked back at the sphere, it read 'sing the song of the soul'

Huh, wonder what that meant. She went off to find Oriae, hopefully she knew more about weird cryptic artifacts than she did.

"Feather, I don't think any of us here expect you to process this in one day. I know that *I* certainly don't. But what we *do* want is for you to rest, knowing that it's ok to do so, and letting our words sink into that info-sponge you call a brain."

Ollie's lips upturn, and Nix himself laughs breathy and light- quiet, but sincere.

"See? Laughter. I've done my job."

Nix isn't sure about any of this at all. Not in the least. But for now? He snuggles into the blankets provided and nods.

Kai visibly relaxes, "I'm so glad to hear that." And he turns to Florian ( @eod-agent-13-12), "Are you okay to handle this? I believe I have... A friend to check up on."

Turning our focus to the other half of the siblings... Oriae sits on the roof. Not on the edge, but still close enough to gaze out at the sprawling view in front of her.

She's currently thinking in circles. Going around and around in her mind, chasing the thought of how once upon a time, she would've reduced this gorgeous view to rubble and dirt without a second thought. About how that mindset poisoned her bond with her brother. About how maybe all the blame lies within who she used to be.

Kai scours the halls, but after no luck in the building, he climbs the ladder to the roof, that seems like a nice place to cool off.

He finally spots Ori near the edge of the roof, and lets out a sigh that was holding tension in his shoulders.

"Hey," he calls out, "you okay?"

She sees no point in beating around the bush... Doesn't have the energy for it anyway. So her simple answer is;

No. I am not.

His heart breaks a little as he walks closer, "I'm sorry."

He stops about a foot away, "May I sit here? Or would you like to be alone for a bit?"

Rose walked down the hall with Kai in her arms, the sun was setting and she was pretty sure it was the little guy's bedtime.

She set him down in the room Oriae directed her towards, and he snuggled into bed, the blankets comically large for his size.

She chuckled and was about to head out when something shiny caught her eyes. It was some sort of golden sphere on the bedside table. She walked up to it, and picked it up gently, it was so intricate, maybe some sort of astronomical sphere?

All of a sudden the bands began to shift, forming letters and sentences. She nearly dropped the thing as she stumbled backwards. Heading out of the room so she didn't wake Kai up, and also to see if this was something she should be telling someone.

Once she closed the door to the room she looked back at the sphere, it read 'sing the song of the soul'

Huh, wonder what that meant. She went off to find Oriae, hopefully she knew more about weird cryptic artifacts than she did.

What with Florian ( @eod-agent-13-12 ) scolding him and Kai's worry, Nix rubs his neck a bit out of embarrassment.

I'm ok. I promise. Maybe overusing Than's power took it's toll... But I'd do it again if it meant keeping everyone safe.

He hears Reginald sigh and feels Ollie grip his hand tightly as Reggie speaks.

"Agent, your friends are right to worry. If you keep sacrificing yourself over and over like this, I fear my heart can't take it. While noble intentions are well and good, I'll admit I'm afraid of you being so unaware of your worth, you'll pull yourself into pieces Ollie and I can't stitch back together."

He goes silent for a bit before muttering.

"Spanish doesn't sound right on my tongue, Phoenix, but please... Hijo, just- just take a break. This once."

He's right. Spanish does sound weird with his accent. But the fact that he threw caution to the wind just to address him as "son"? Knocked the wind out of him.

He turns towards Nix ( @silverdragon889) on his heels, and pulls out a small contraption from his pocket, it's the little spider Oriae gave him when they were working on the device to help Nix.

He quickly sets the little guy on Nix's hand, "I want you to have this. His name is Marco and he keeps me safe in all my endeavors, and I think he'll do the same for you."

And he dashed out of the room to find his other distraught best friend.

Kai... Doesn't realize Nix has arachnophobia, and so Nix goes very, VERY still at the sight of the little machine in his hands. He's suddenly very scared... But doesn't want to hurt Kai's feelings either. So he humors the little spider... Just this once.
