menaticideâ:
maybe he should just be grateful that sharon listened to himâ she definitely had better things to do.  âname one good think about the internet.  one of the little shield interns showed me thirst tiktoks and if iâm honest, i think the torture sessions were worse.â  overly dramatic & layered with sarcasm, he can barely hold back a laugh,  âi do plenty of better things with my time likeâŚÂ â  reading.  gotta catch up on all the books i missed.  actually on that note:  can you explain to me why they made three hobbit films?  they didnât need that many.â
"you can look up anything on the internet. any book, movie, song, show, itâs all there. whatâs not to like? and thirst tiktoks are funny. whereâs your sense of humor, barnes?â she teased, an amused smile on her face. it was funny to see how annoyed he was. âyou can do that on the internet,â she winked. âno, i canât. money, probably.â maybe a bit cynical, but it was true.Â
redwingwilsonâ:
sam kind of hates how perceptive sharon is - they canât get away with much around her. makes her really great at her job, sure, but being called on their shit with no remorse is exhausting. (though, they know itâs because she cares.)
âfine,â sam relents. âit hasnât been easy on any of us, all this multiverse mess, and i donât think i need to tell you that this job isnât easy, either. little hard to find time for myself when iâm constantly being whisked off to god knows where to deal with god knows what.â
sharon nearly smiled at the way sam relented. she could tell sheâd gotten something right, and even more so, she could tell that irritated them a little. she liked the satisfaction, but the moment was too serious, so she her expression matched the mood. at least now they were being open and honest.Â
âyou have to learn how to not answer the phone sometimes. if itâs an emergency, someone else will handle it, or someone will get ahold of you. but if you donât take a minute for yourself, even amongst all of this madness, youâll burn out. it happens to the best of people if they arenât care,â she warned. more important, she didnât want to see that happen to him. âwhenâs the last time you saw your sister?âÂ
magnetowasriightâ:
âms.carter.â his way of a greeting. amicable, polite. while erik may be doing things a bit differently as of late, his feelings for homo sapiens hadnât changed in the slightest. dealing with them often led to more headaches than necessary. precisely why sharon carter was always a relief to deal with. she was competent. excelled at her duties. he refused to deal with anyone else in shield. âi have a few updates to provide you with.â
@agentcarterâ
if she thought the world had changed during the snap, it was really the aftermath of reversing it that had changed everything. and that was a lot to deal with, very exhausting at times, but it had to be done. the world was trying to shape into a better version, and she wanted to help with that. plus, everything was falling apart most of the time, and she needed to help with that. part of the helping was keeping the connections between s.h.i.e.l.d and mutants positive. that was why she considered it an honor to work so closely with erik. she gave him a smile. âmr. lehnsherr. good to see you. how can i help you today?â
brxinixcâ:
âI do see your point. Perhaps itâs just hard to avoid thoughts of it when the city has been preparing for it since January,â Brainy wasnât up-to-date on their knowledge of human holidays unfortunately, but they made a note to read up on any future celebrations that might be relevant, âOh, this is a drinking holiday? I was under the impression that St. Valentineâs was for lovers, and people waited until St. Patrickâs to get inebriated.â
that was fair. people didnât really give much time between holidays. the end of the new year celebrations marked the start of valentineâs day, and the end of valentineâs day marked the start of st. patrickâs day, and so on and so forth. âyou learn to ignore it,â she said honestly, shrugging a shoulder. âor you join it. iâve never been big on all of the festivities myself.â sharon laughed a little and nodded. âany holiday is a drinking holiday if you want it to be. youâre right, though, st. patrickâs day is more about drinking than valentineâs. itâs more single people who tend to drink now.âÂ
redwingwilsonâ:
of all the people to sidle up next to sam, sharon is probably the least surprising. every time heâs in, sheâs there too, which again isnât much of a surprise considering how she seems to be on a never-ending hustle since she fled the u.s. (for him, because of him, sam doesnât think). sam scoffs. ârich coming from you. you know the kids are spreading rumours about you getting a pull out in your office that never actually sees the light of day as a couch.â
though she knew it wasnât true, and it was meant to be poking holes in her argument, she couldnât help but think that was a good idea. sharon thought on it for a second before shaking her head. âthatâs not bad, honestly. my office does have the space,â she teased. âbut stop trying to deflect. this is about you overworking and not going home enough, not me. we can get to that another day.â her tone was light, even if her words were serious. âhonestly, do you take any time for yourself anymore?âÂ
wahndasâ:â
SHE BOUGHT FLOWERS.  well ,  wanda actually grew them  ( with her magic ,  to get the perfect shade of pink ),  but if anyone asked : she bought them .  because she just wants to participate in something ,  feel normal ,  and sheâs donned in a red dress - offers the other a grin .â hi sharon .  i was thinking we could uh -HAVE A PICNIC INSIDE. but not .  you can pick where we go -anywhere .  iâve been getting better at this âŚillusion stuff . â
sharon had come dressed for the occasion, but she still felt underdressed when she saw wanda. and with the beautiful flowers? she was definitely a bit out of her element. but she was trying! she really was. âhi, wanda,â she said with a smile. âan inside picnic is a good idea. itâs too cold to actually go out,â she added. the blonde raised an eyebrow slightly. âoh, really? hmm. i donât know. do you have a favorite place?âÂ
americanheroâ:â
Theyâd told him, with all due respect, to get a goddamn life already. Natasha had spent years trying to set him up, trying to pull him out of the thick cloud of memories he carried with him. He lived here now. He lived now. He wasnât a weapon, a symbol, a pretty face on a poster. He was a human, a flesh-and-blood man with a heart heâd wrapped in layers of armor. Heâd fallen in love once, and heâd never get her back; he was spent, he was done, heâd had his fill. Heâd tucked himself away and stayed there, resigned to the hand heâd been dealt. Steve Rogers died in the ice in â45, and Captain America had been thawed out.
At least, thatâs what he told himself.
Then there had been Sharon. So like Peggy and so not, so smart and strong and a little bit terrifying, willing to coax him out and deal with the shards of ice left in his bloodstream. She was the closest heâd been to being alive this side of the millennium, but it hadnât been enough. He hadnât been enough. Steve had tried, he had, really, but heâd never stopped living with a foot in the past, never been able to put aside his mantle entirely. He could take off the helmet, lay down the shield, but he could never stop carrying the weight of Captain America.
They hadnât made it long.
He hadnât seen her since heâd returned, and he hadnât known if heâd wanted to. He hadnât known how to. What did you say? How did you say it? Heâd been around a long time, heâd seen everything from HYDRA bases to alien spaceships, but he didnât know how to deal with relationships. Heâd never had much luck. But here she was, standing outside his door, file in hand, looking⌠displeased to see him.
Steve blinked. âWere you looking for Bucky?â he said. âHeâs just stepped out for a bit. He should be back soon. Do you want toâŚ?â And then he stopped, sighed, ran a hand through his hair. A hundred and seven years old, feeling like a teenage boy stumbling over his words. âHi, Sharon.â
the minute she spoke, she should have turned around and left. but as silly as it felt and as much as she hated it, steve had had a pull on her for as long as she could remember. he was a good person. he cared about people. there was a time he cared about her. sharon was never one for serious relationships, always kind of reserved, but steve naturally brought this other side out of her. he made her want to be soft and caring and loving. and she was all of those things, sheâd just had few people to share her affection with.
her feet stayed glued to the cement, watching as he spoke. was he thinking about her at all other than thinking about the fact that she was standing here? âyeah,â she said, still sort of just standing and looking at him. she hadnât quite processed what to do yet, or his words entirely. but sharon let out a soft sigh as he ran his hand through his hair. it felt like he was as lost as she was. âhi, steve,â she returned.
it would have been easier if she hated him, or if she was over him, but she wasnât. sheâd really fallen in love with him, and that feeling stuck around. that, she reminded herself, was why she didnât get involved with people. she was here on a mission, and she was getting distracted by steve. she needed to focus.
âi can just leave this with you, if you want. or i can come back later?â she suggested. she wasnât sure what would best or how long bucky would gone, but it seemed like steve wasnât in the mood to chat. or maybe that was just what she was telling herself.
menaticideâ:
âeveryone keeps telling me that facebook & instagram and all that crapâ best inventions of the modern era.  youâre all wrong.  the clear answer is the invention of the splaydâŚÂ  the only correct use of social media is telling other people how cool splayds are.  i donât want to hear about sandra from workâs fucking brunch again.  i want to talk about a knife-spoon-fork combo.â  ( * @reshieldedstartâ )
a frown covered her face as she listened to bucky talk for far too long. what was he even talking about? after a moment, she looked at him quietly, her eyes narrowed a little. âwhat the hell are you talking about? how are you not going to say the internet is the best modern invention?â she asked. âyou need better things to do with your time.â

@reshieldedstartâ
where: s.w.o.r.d or s.h.i.e.l.d training compound
sam is tired. maybe more than tired, actually. the exhaustion settles in his bones, and for a moment he lets his face fall, sheds the composed captain america expression he feels he wears more often than not lately. (when was the last time he was home?). and of course, he knows the exhaustion is really bad when he reaches for the coffee machine, to prepare his fourth one of the day. (the coffee at the compound comes in a can, bulk and pre-ground. sarah buys them the good, whole bean specialty stuff from a gourmet shop in the city.). sam sighs to himself, rolls his shoulders, and convinces himself that, at the very least, no one is nagging him about being cap right now. no one needs rescuing. (exceptâŚmaybe himself). sam gets a momentâs break and the planet keeps spinning.
ever since coming back from madripoor, sharon had done nothing but work nonstop. there were so many questions that needing answering, and she felt a certain responsibility to try and find answers. and as time passed, more and more questions came up. not to mention, it was nice to have a distraction, so she could continue to ignore the feelings sheâd been pushing away for a long, long while now. she walked in to get a cup of coffee to fuel her evening of filling out paperwork when she noticed sam was still there. âyou know, never going home isnât actually a requirement to being captain america. you can take a break, go home, get some rest.â she was one to talk.Â
sharon was too busy for dating. and she wasnât really sure she was in the right place for it. but who was she to not take wanda on a date after getting matched with her? the match surprised her, actually, and she hadnât seen the woman in quite some time, but she was kind of looking forward to it. she went to her place and knocked, a picnic basket in her hand as she waited. @wahndasâ

     he  looked  like  hell  .  .  .  not  in  the  way  women  lusted  for  pete  davidson  but  in  the  way  man  feared  steve  buscemi.  he  hadnât  slept  for  a  while  ,  clearly.  his  expression  was  much  more  gaunt  than  usual  and  constantine  was  the  type  of  man  who  made  his  distress  quite  literally  everyone  elseâs  problem.  needless  to  say  queensâ  local  library  had  more  tension  than  a  real  housewives  reunion.  â  good  god  susan  ,  i  will  put  the  fucking  books  back  when  iâm  done  with  the  fucking  books  ,  alright  ?  fucks  wrong  with  you  people  ,  eh  ?  canât  some  bloke  from  across  the  universe  do  some  damn  research  ?  â
sharon couldnât help but watch on as the man seemed to irritate the living hell out of the librarian on duty. she couldnât quite tell if she was amused, or simply fascinated. he was really stirring up quite a lot of dust with his little fit, drawing all kinds of attention. not that she could blame him; how else was a person to rect to being in a different universe, or whatever the situation was here? then again, the internet was available, and much easier. âwhat exactly are you trying to learn?â she asked him, her voice quiet, demeanor calm to match it.Â

     â whatever  it  is  ⌠ i  really  donât  care.  no  offense. â   lack  of  sleep  mixes  like  acid  with  social  interaction.  most  days ,  she  can  keep  it  together.  or  so  little  voice  in  her  head  claims.  not  that  anyone ,  at  any  point  in  her  life  ( read :  career ) ,  has  accepted  her  bullshit.    â  unless  the  next  words  out  of  your  mouth  are   âaw  but  bobbi,  i  brought  you  coffeeâ   â  can  it  wait ? â   okay.  itâs  harsh.  a  touch  too  much.  sheâs  starting  to  sound  like  her  mother.    â  at  least  until  i  get  some  caffeine ,  please.  â
there was a time that sharon would have let people push her around or talk down to her, if this even qualified as that. that time was long past. call it cynicism, call it maturity, but sharon carter didnât put up with any bullshit. the last decade had worn her down, and she didnât have anymore niceties in her. she rolled her eyes at bobbi, arms crossed over her chest. âyouâre gonna hurt my feelings,â she said sarcastically. âso get some goddamn coffee and get to work. câmon,â she said, nodding for her to get up.Â

âAm I supposed to have thoughts on this whole⌠Valentineâs evening party theyâre throwing?â Rather ridiculous, if you asked Brainy. And no one did, but they were going to give their opinion anyways, âI wasnât aware Valentineâs Day persisted as a city-wide celebration.â
@reshieldedstartâ
âum, no? not if you donât want to,â sharon shrugged. âpeople will take any excuse to drink, and dance, and find someone to spend some time with. but if you donât care, then you donât care. simple.â sharon hardly cared these days. she wouldnât even be involving herself in the holiday if val hadnât signed her up for the matchmaking.Â
âHas anyone ever told you how handsome you are when your eyes flash that way?â
@americanhero
ever since the blip was undone, her life had gotten even more complicated. there was a certain level of personal hurt everyone coming back inflicted on her. it was purely selfish. and sharon sure as hell wasnât saying she wished it hadnât happened. but the guy she was seeing immediately left her, and her ex disappeared entirely, leaving her to draw some conclusions. it felt like she was no oneâs first choice, no oneâs priority, and it made her feel some kind of way that she didnât want to acknowledge.Â
sharon carter had always been good at focusing on work, but with so much personal unrest, she found herself spending the last two years on overdrive, an attempt to do anything and everything to avoid those feelings. sharon didnât have the time to feel insecure or sad or lonely. she had a whole world that needed her, and if she lost focus, people would suffer. and so, she hadnât made any efforts to reach out to some people all too often, but she needed bucky barnes for something, and so she found herself approaching the address in his file.Â
she knew, in theory, that steve rogers was back, but sheâd done everything to not dwell on it. so when he opened the door of buckyâs place, she stared at him, dumbfounded, then glanced down at the file in her hand, and back up at him. âi have the wrong place,â she said simply. @americanheroâ
